Insomniac really seemed to have lost a lot of steam this generation.
They're just not as good as they used to be.

Tools of Destruction was still pretty good, but from the way the story was told you could feel something was wrong, in that they tried to make R&C epic. All of a sudden we got this crap about Rachet being the only lombax eventhough we saw atleast 2 others in the last generation (3 if you count the chick from R&C2). And the entire game felt like it lacked the grown up sense of humor that the earlier games had. Quest for Booty isn't even worth talking about, but I had high hopes for Crack in Time. Unfortunately it leaned even more towards the serious side, and apparently Insomniac was desperate for a main villain so they brought in fan favourite Dr. Nefarious, but he just wasn't funny this time around. And apart from the characters being moot, this time around the gameplay was just horrendously mediocre.

I never actually played past the first R&C (it's a long story involving my sister and a deleted save file ;_
so I had zero expectations coming in to the ps3 titles. I don't think, for me anyway, that the story really matters too much, I just enjoy the tightnit platforming crossed with shootemup madness and added light comedy.
Thing is that in the previous three games the story didn't matter either. The set up was simple; "Hey Rachet, some weirdo is starting shit, lets go get'm! Oh and Captain Quark and one-eyed monkey are along for the ride too: YEEEEEH!"Accountfailed said:Well, like, that's just your opinion, dude. :3

That whole serious origin story of Rachet in the new games bugged the crap out of me.
You should seriously try to track down Rachet & Clack 3 though, it's a hoot and a half. It's got a lombax Bill Clinton, and a scene where Quark basically fesses to making it with an alien chimp.
Insomniac should stop with the Rachet and Clank games and go back to Spyro. All 4 One looks terrible and I NEED another good Spyro game

I've been sceptical about All 4 One ever since I first heard about it. I love the Ratchet and Clank series with a capital LOVE, and wasn't sure if this co-op focussed game was going to be on par with the rest of the series. To be honest, I'm still not sure. The witty dialogue will still be there because this is Insomniac and they know how to write a good R&C game. The weapons look like there has been some thought behind them and there is something new at least. And as long as there is a new RYNO, then I'm happy.
