If this was to get me interested in buying rift, sadly it didn't hit the mark. Looks good and all, and rogue is my favourite class but it still doesnt look as customizable as guild wars... Was an almost - buuuuuut not quite for me :).

That's a looooot of skill trees to choose from, which is a good thing. But gods, the combat looks slow and boring.

And yeah, the game has been out for a month or so already. Why bring this out now?

My first thought when seeing this ad was "Is this game still not out?" I got so tired of seeing the ads for this thing all over the Escapist and everywhere else. According to Amazon the game has been out for about a month and a half and it's down nearly 50% in price. That's always a great sign.

A bit late for this isnt it? The game released over a month ago.
I don't think The Escapist only advertises new games, but also is willing to sell space to "older" ones (or is just that affordable). I look back at "Starpoint Gemini" not too long ago, which was another game that has been released and was getting a promotional trailer put up here.

Another wow clone, i wonder how long till this game hits the grave yard.
You mean an EQ clone.
Or how about, you all stfu about X MMORPG is a clone of X MMORPG.
Its a damn genre that hasn't changed in over 15 years.

WoW wasn't the first MMORPG of its kind and WoW fanboys need to stop treating Blizzard pile of $$$ as if it was actually good. Granted BC was fun and WotLK allowed anyone to play the game, but the main WoW and Cata were a giant joke. Blizzard can thank BC and WotLK for all their $$$ because that game is going down the shit tube faster than our economy each day.

Rant end.
Overall I played the game Rift.
What they don't show you are the side puzzles which were really fun. They have main quests, but you run off and do a puzzle or two and you are rewarded for it with an epic or so. Also when you are the first person on the realm to get certain Epic or Legendary or even Rare item, the realm is told so, just like in WoW when you mounted the head of a raid boss.

Rift's main focus was the Rifts. Seriously, I got tired of quest quest quest level from wow to get to end game. Rift has environment changes which allows people to Rift hop to level instead of doing just quests.

Do I see flaws in Rift. Of course. Do I think Rift is a neat game that added something to the MMORPG genre, yes. Why am I not playing Rift now? 3 weeks til graduation and I've basically quit playing games because they bore the hell out of me now days. I want to go jet skiing and then go camping until Football starts and watch Football and then go Snowboarding in the winter.

I say wow clone because ive played rift beta and its almost the same as wow as far as the UI goes, ive also played eq, but its closer to looking like wow so telling me to stfu over my opinion is stupid. How is you opinion more valid than mine? Im not a wow fanboy as i no longer play wow atleast for now. But a gamer making a comparison. If you dont like my opinion than gtfo.

It's not as customizable, but it's the closest thing you'll get to it without being Guild Wars. Given the huge number of combinations, there are very few combos that actually work. Main reason is clashing of specializations. Best example is the mage;

Pyromancer, Stormcaller and Necromancer.

Pyro's trees talk of + fire damage
Stormcaller is +water and air
Necro is + pet and death magic.

A combo of these 3 won't work due to the clashing of talent trees.

Another problem is that most of your classes end up feeling like a jigsaw you designed yourself but you have a bucket load of random shaped pieces. You have to work out what pieces work.
Just replace pieces with skills. Usually it ends up being a complex long priority list. So if you enjoy balancing buffs and debuffs, rift is the game for you. If you don't fancy it, wait for guild wars.

Don't get me wrong, it is fun and interesting. Just if you're used to Guild Wars, you'll be disappointed.

The only builds I found personally fun were the Offensive Support roles, like Bard, Archon, Dominator etc. The problem is, it's not fun if the people you're supporting are terribad.

I already feared that it would be less diverse than they make it seem. You can't have a rogue that is specialised in swords AND guns AND bows (I don't really know what weapons are available, just a guess), because you will only use on of them.
Now, Guild Wars 1 had that too, a little. But GW2 is going to allow really diverse professions, since almost every profession can fulfil almost every role (advertising, much?).

Thanks man :) - I mean I am almost literally sitting here strumming my desk waiting for GW2, just waiting on that release date :p

YEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!
Well played :D

At first i thought "My gaaawwwdd, yet another wow clone". But since it's release, my interest for this has grown ever slightly for each game footage i've seen.
I've reached the "mildly interested point" now. Maybe i should start using my money on a monthly subscription yet again :D

EDIT: Sorry for waking a dead thread....
