Jedi should not be "unlocked" after you pick a class since it doesn't fit with the lore from the time period. Jedi are trained from a very young age, having the player go against that breaks the lore a bit. It's been known to happen in a few rare cases, but on this scale? It completely breaks the lore.
How does it not? Didn't SWG's quest to unlock the Jedi class was extremely long and hard? Doing the same here would limit the amount of players who could unlock the Jedi class. Also, it's only suggested that Jedi's require training from a young age. If I remember correctly Yoda used the "he's to young" argument when Obi Wan tried to make him train Luke due to his impulsiveness and impatience. He was eventually trained and became the master of the New Jedi Order after the Empire fell. Even though it's uncommon it's certainly not impossible.
I can understand the lore argument but in the end it looks as if the Old Republic's quests tend to evoke a single player experience rather than a multiplayer one. Why should it matter if people in their single player experience become Jedi's? I personally don't see why the gameplay should be influenced so much by the lore but if what I suggested isn't good enough they could simply let you create a Jedi after completing the quest chain instead of making your character a Jedi.

I'm going to cut you a little slack here since you say you've never played WoW. You have no idea what you are talking about. Just from this video alone I can see that this has better facial animations, character customization, environment detail, and higher resolution characters than WoW. Anyone who says otherwise either needs to have their eyes examined or has never played WoW.
I have played WoW... for three years in fact. Whether or not the textures are superior the fact of the matter is everything looks bland and uninteresting. In terms of environment all we've seen up until now is metallic corridor, metallic walls, metallic platforms, brown earth. Yes, the graphics are "superior" from a technical standpoint but the art style is absolutely horrible. World of Warcraft is capable of hiding the low resolution textures using its art style and not only does it make the game look better but it also creates more varied environments. Rarely will you see a zone that looks the same. Character wise, whilst the textures in TOR look better than WoW's, they still look like shit and the animations are inferior to WoW's.

There are a lot of things both on a macro and micro level that differentiate this from the standard MMO, story a big part of that, but there are a lot of other things as well, such as companions(which ARE NOT pets, they function a lot like the companions from DA or ME). I don't want to get into everything right now, but suffice it to say there are a lot of things this game is improving upon from the standard MMO formula.
I heard about progressing through one singular story akin to a single player game but I don't know how well that will fare multiplayer wise.
In regards to companions, doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose of playing with others? How will it be balanced in PvP? What role do they serve? What's the point of having a companion if it's most likely not going to be integrated into endgame PvE content?
If they've improved the formula then please, tell me.
