Alright, this trailer wasn't that good.....but I still think I'm gonna get this game. maybe not at launch, but if they still keep in the R&D parts of the series (and they supposedly are), I might be happy.

Haters gonna hate?

I'm not one for pessimism, so I'm going to give this game a good shot. Since we only have two trailers, there's not a whole lot to go on, so, the judgement is based on very early speculation. It's also attributed to the fact that some people are purists. I'm sorry, I don't care that they switched genres. It's their product. Maybe they want to give it a new look? It's not such a bad thing, all things considered. Hell, for all you guys know, it could be awesome.

I can't really get excited about this, because the whole setting of the original and good xcom games, that even humanity's best armed with the highest tech and most up-to-date gear, had to zerg rush into the alien's teeth and die in droves to get even the simplest things done regardless of casualties, is the direct opposite of how any first-person-shooter will play.

So the problem that most fans of the original(myself included) have here is that this is nothing but an attempt to cash in on the X-COM name while having only the slightest and most superficial resemblance to X-COM itself.

I loved X-Com: UFO Defense (Or Enemy Unknown depending on your continent). It's easily one of my favorite games of all time.

THIS looks like a sequel to Destroy All Humans (complete with last-gen graphics) where you're playing a Majestic agent.

If (when) this game bombs, I just hope developers don't assume that it wasn't because the XCom brand was a loser (hell, the XCom brand remains popular DESPITE everything that followed the original game!), but that getting rid of the turn-based, squad-level combat and turning the game into an FPS was so stupid that I felt my IQ drop just from hearing about it.

Mind you, they could still make this work.

For example: Have the base-building, R&D and engineering from the original game. And also have a tactical mode where you deploy your squad, and then choose one squad member to take control of for first-person fighting for a period of time. Followed by a switch back to the tactical mode where you see how the rest of the squad is doing. Wash, rinse repeat.

I never played it, but I believe that the video game adaptation of Space Hulk did this.

I'm not EXPECTING this sort of approach, but it could work.

If it still retains the base building, R & D, manufacturing, a dynamic campaign and Rank system but does away with the strategy for first person shooter levels
This is what I got from the trailer, and I hope this is exactly what it is

As soon as I got FPS and XCOM I gave up on this title...

XCOM as defined by its orgins is basically total anthema to twitch based FPS action... its like some clever sod turned MW3 into a RTS with a Sims theme, bad targeting of audiance man.
Want to try convince metal heads they need to watch a opera, thats easier than getting XCOM fans to play a FPS version of XCOM.

I would bet good money the majority that are intrested in the title , didnt have the fortune to play the original XCOM: UFO defence... from tactics style RTS to a FPS, bad move.

That trailer didn't look all that bad to me but for fucks sake give it different name don't just use brand recognition to sell us a completely unrelated game.

Advance in twos! Line up in front of that hatch! End Turn. Opportunity Shot. End Turn. Opportunity Shot. End Turn. Opportunity Shot. End Turn. Opportunity Shot. Score: Excellent!

So lets see, ANOTHER boring looking FPS, crap aliens (movie clichés or GTFO), but you CAN research stuff. Woop-de-do.

Not X-Com.

It's like they took ONE aspect of XCOM, the researching Alien weapons bit and said "Why not make a FPS with this one new element?"

OT: That being said.......I like the aliens. It's not "Like Humans BUT blue and/or double jointed" Especially the cubic modular vehicles (I'm presuming) is quite an interesting aesthetic design, so credit where it's due.

Not making me feel any kinder towards this travesty 2k. Not at all, especially considering how much you suck at FPS gameplay.

The ONE thing that interests me here is the way that the alien tech really stands out from the world - it's an interesting stylistic choice that's pretty cool. However, the bland textures and slightly muted colours don't really set the scenes up very well and look dated in a way that doesn't work stylistically imo.

As people before have said, why is this XCOM? I mean, even if it's a reboot, they seem to be kinda far from the mark of the original with everything but the most loosely-worded premise :/

...Aaand another year goes by, and not a damn thing was said about this game until E3.
Unless those scenarios are randomly generated, I doubt it will be very good at all.

As soon as I saw random walls of sandbags in the middle of suburbia I was put off.

Some of this looks visually intriguing, but really not what I'm looking for in a game in general.

As for a reboot of an old favorite, you might as well compare chess to dodge ball.

Admittedly, it's just a trailer, but aren't trailers supposed to encourage interest?
