Really, what do people see in these movies? All they have going for them is the action. Everything else is atrocious.
Some people love action movies. Simple as.

Say what you will about Michael Bay, he's the Da Vinci of pointlessly blowing shit up. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Let's face it, his movies are the pornos of the blockbuster realm. Do we go for the story? The characters? As Will Smith would say, ah HELL naw! Those are merely there to get us from Point A(wesome) to Point B(low Dat Shit Up, Son).
Sadly Michael Bay does blowing stuff up look dull.

Sometimes you just want to watch shit get blown up. And Michael Bay does love shit blowing up.

That said, TF2 could well have done with more aggressive editing to cut out the pointless bullshit characters (Sam's parents, the twins, the annoying roommate twat) and non-stories that happen when shit is not blowing up.
Then you'd only have a five-minute movie :p

Eh. I'm not going to go see this movie. If a movie's whole premise is supposed to be over the top action, then they should stick to their guns and make a full on CGI film about the robots. I don't need all the little people running around, trying to make us relate to them. Especially since most of their acting is, quite ironically, 'robotic'.

Well at the risk of being ignored as it being my first post on this forum in particular let me throw in my 2 cents for the matter.

First off i would like to get what i dont like about it out of the way. I found the plot line to be a line of diamond in a piece of shit. Allow me to explain: The over all felt extremely cliche in many many parts that i was ready to throw something at the screen. However when looks into the plot line on after reflection they realize that the plot isnt bad but actually very good, just poorly executed. My first example of this is towards the end (pardon me for going out of chronological order) where Sam is knocked out from the explosion as he makes his way towards optimus prime. They try to bring him back and he only awakens after his girlfriend cries over him. Yes her crying wasnt the factor that brought him back but the overall effect was such. I would have rather had him meet the Primes mid explosion in the middle of flying through the air (time slows down) and they thank him and in return they give him the right to the key and some secret knowledge that save him from the explosion. Also would have been a great place for some dramat8ic humor, ie. "To not die, dont follow the light, take a right at the 3rd exit, lol. But either way it could have been executed in numerous ways that would have been much better. The second complaint i have is about Sam ideal of "I wanna be a normal boy." Yes most of us HS/college kids have this fantasy but none of us have been traumatized in psychotic ways. Lets think about it, the boy found an alien race, was almost killed numerous times, thought he destroyed the world, befriended aliens, made alien enemies, got arrested, found "true love"***, got arrested, etc. etc. etc. in about a few days worth of time and he doesnt have pot traumatic stress disorder?!?!?! let alone thinking normally and wanting to be a normal person? these are the people that end up in insane asylum for me to throw peanuts at! Now dont get me wrong i realize its just a movie and therefore all rules of science, human nature, math, history and such are just suggestions more than anything else but honestly dont they think this cliche is annoying for a reason?
CALLING ALL PLOT WRITERS: let the "I wanna be normal" gimmick just die!

*** note the sarcasm in true love
also note that i was only using those two as example of cliches and poor plot devices, there are more.

How ever its not all evil i did mention earlier that the movie was at heart a diamond. In fact id give the movie an overall of an 8/10. Now lets get the obvious out of the way. One of the reasons the movie was was good was because GIANT ROBOTS WERE BEATING EACH OTHER TO A PULP WITH MASSIVE GUNS, EPIC EXPLOSIONS, FLAMING SWORDS, AND SO MUCH F***ING MORE *drool*.
Ahem, sorry about that
Now lets go on to the stuff that makes me look smart when i talk about it. The overall plot was brilliant in my opinion because it created a sense of deja vu by making Sam into his father, it explained why his father went insane and drew symbols everywhere by driving Sam insane for the same or similar reason. Now i dont want to sound nice (because real men are assholes) so ill just leave it here.

The last thing i want to say is that i would have rather seen a Transformers 0, the pre story. That was the story behind his grandfather, and his mini battle. Idk if this is possible since there were no giant robot actions but i think if done properly it could have been pulled off.

OH and one last thing, i liked how earlier on the mom couldnt let go for him to go to college and later his dad was the watery one that couldnt let go to let him fight robots. It was well played by the Transformers Team and i thought it was note worthy.

This film was horrible, the racial caricatures is the sort of buffoonery that you can only get from over-paid, under-educated, moronic trust-fund babies that Hollywood is almost entirely composed of.

This was just awful, the plot was a mess, the pacing was bad, the actors had the worst dialogue I've heard all year and the only thing of substance was the action and some of the concepts. However it was all fleshed out terrible.

The TWINZ (reference to the broke down drug dealing ice cream vans) were abominable and I literally couldn't believe that Michael Bay would delve into such madness the mionute Speilberg stopped holding his hand.

F*** this film. I'll go in depth later perhaps.

This review seems more like a commercial than an actual review.
It's a review. Perhaps it seems to you that way simply because of the second paragraph.

So you never want to just watch a mindless blockbuster? For all my cerebral pretensions, every once in a while there's nothing better than just laying back and enjoying the explosions and brawls. Although Transformers isn't the kind of film I would choose.

As for the review, needs to be longer before I can judge really.
Hmmm i'm all keen for action but I've never taken a liking to Michael Bays movies, they always tend to be on the corny side of things.
Corny was only good in the 80's when it had balls (Aliens, Predator etc.)

Some good bits, some bad bits.
I must admit I have a low opinion of Bay, so my opinion is probably a bit biased.
Battles and special effects were cool enough. Some good jokes.
Too many bits with the humans (they're not who most people go to a "Transformers" film to see), not enough brainpower and the twins were the most annoying characters I've seen in a film this year.

"Very good"? Every source aged over 10 years old I've heard from has been calling the thing an abomination. I would have been prepared to hear a different viewpoint, but the review is barely two paragraphs. This reeks of a "got home all excited after seeing it and scribbling some words" situation.

...and? It's giant fighting transforming robots, It's all about the action.
Is it too much to ask for a palatable story to accompany it?

Or at least a decent amount of screen time for said robots?
It was directed by Micheal Bay, so yes, yes it is too much to ask.

Certainly not, so long as you aren't hurling insults at me for enjoying the movie.

Everything that didn't involve big alien robots fighting each other was mediocre at best. But, as others have pointed out, it's a movie about ALIEN ROBOTS THAT TURN INTO CARS and criticizing it for not delivering an intricately woven story or a deeply moving exploration of what makes us human is missing the point- everything else is a vehicle for the robots. The writing and acting were good enough that I didn't mind them. I'm okay with that, I don't consider my money wasted. In-N-Out Burger isn't haute cuisine, but it fills me up and tastes pretty good in the process. That's what I go there for.

On a related note, if Michael Bay had been replaced by Bizarro Bay and chosen to make Transformers 2 a deeply moving drama with many interlocking themes which played our emotions like a Stradivarius... Well, I'd have walked out of the movie.

Actually I saw the film 4 days before I posted this review.
