a few people have been ripping on sword vs gun, sword wins. if you're saying that it's unrealistic. it's actually not, well not entirely, but it requires a few assumptions

1) the swordsman is very well trained, and has excellent control over his body and senses (this should be given because without this the character wouldn't have their own show)
2) the character has the stamina for continuous sharp movements of his entire body, so that the opponents cannot aim properly (it is quite difficult to hit a moving person, especially at close range, even with an automatic, it is not impossible)
3) the character has excellent tactical ability, not only taking advantage of other tools (gas, flashbangs, caltraps, etc) but also taking advantage of cover (trees, pillars, chest high walls, etc) and also tactical situation (surprise, fear, subterfuge, misc weaknesses, etc)

without any one of these however, yes, i agree, the dude should look like swiss cheese before you can say 'Guy Faukes should have used a remote'

I don't like how when the story takes place in Japan, none of the characters look vaguely Japanese. I understand that that's the style of manga art, and it makes the comic more ascessible to western audiences, but some seinen manga I've read makes the characters look Japanese, so I'm not letting this thing pass.

And yes, showing all the women with h-cup breasts, even though Japanese women on average have a like a b-cup I think.

Allow me to introduce the backbone of Anime/Manga.

1. Giant Mechs
2. Spunky Love Interests and Sexless Dopes.
3. Samurai/Swordsmen/Ninjas

You will find at least ONE of these in any anime.

And I challenge ANYONE to show me otherwise. I will gladly retract my comment should you find one.

Just one.

Azumanga - 2. "Secondary characters include Kimura-sensei, a creepy male teacher with an obsession with teenage girls, and Kaorin, a classmate with a crush on Sakaki." found on their wikipedia page therefore contains one in the criteria.
So...is he a spunky love interest, then?

Chobits - 2. This one was actually too easy. Chi herself is represented as a love interest, as is Yumi in "My pleasure" who works with Hideki.
Chii isn't spunky. I'll give you Yumi, though.

Absolute Boyfriend - 2. Another too easy one. I wasn't specific on gender, was I?
Is Night spunky?

Cowboy Bebop. - 3 in a sence. This one I should have seen coming in the sence that I failed to degress this aspect. I should have said experts in weaponry/fighting but alas I was careless, so unfortunatly due to my sportsmanship. I will let you have this one.
You should have said "fighting," then. It's an absurdly comprehensive requirement, though.

The 2 I have failed to mention I must admit are good examples of those without. I tip my hat to you sir, although feel as if you could have had a bit more subtlety and tact to your challenge.

I retract my statement unless I find something in those 2/3 examples.
I almost put up Full Metal Alchemist, but then I remembered that there's a guy who could pass for a ninja who shows up in two chapters around volume 10 or so. Same with Tsukihime, you'd probably argue that Arcueid is "spunky."

Misa does not count.

I really hate it when the main charcater defeats the `strongest` guy but then there is another guy who is even stronger, then another, then another. Dragonball Z was a culprit of this.

Also, I am sick of jokes about sexually frustrated guys and their `panty` obsessions. It is only funny the first two times.

The mean guy with a heart of old need to be retired. This character type is so oversued that it is just not compelling anymore.

You seem to be taking my examples FAR to literally, by spunky love interest I mean a love interest in the generic sense of Interest and Interested. But either way, I already gave you the victory, so I won't continue this further.
Not in the interest of continuing an argument...but in that case you basically described the entirety of the action and romance genres. Of any medium. I'll drop it, though.

(Forgive me for only selecting a random part of your reply, I don't want to upset the moderators)

And when you think about it, your right. Chi isn't the spunkiest in the world, but she sure is the cutest.
Find me an American show or comic that doesn't have any of your requirements.

Really everything has either "Guy that's really good at something", Love interest or Weapons of some kind.

the thing I really start to hate lately in anime or manga is their somewhat fucked up power system.(of course there is the maincharacter-beats-all-syndrom-_-, but let's ignore that for now)

For example:
bleach: Ichigo vs kenpachi=ichigo wins, after this Ichigo(with an additional powerlevel) fights the 5th espada and loses, then kenpachi steps in and beats the 5th ?_? and then reveals that he had some kind of secret move that he did not use against ichi(for no reason, he almost freakkin died that time-_-(nutcase!))
YES

Bleach pisses me off seriously in that respect. The last episode I watched consisted of pretty much nothing but Ichigo getting his arse whupped by some guy we've never seen before. So, I stopped watching Bleach.

... Sigh.

Here

And with this I forget I ever said anything.
Since there is no way to say this and still look good. I am sorry for not reading your categories completely and only reading half of your posts. It should have never happened. I just assumed you kept adding categories as cliches and I created some image of a "zomg animus r teh suck" character in my head to represent you. Which I of now know is wrong and I have found that you are a reasonable poster.
