Okay, maybe "racism against whites" was the wrong phrase. I wrote this in the middle of the night, so my faculties weren't at their sharpest. My main...thing is guilt by association. I despise this implication that being white and middle class automatically makes me responsible for all the bad things that happened in the past. Perhaps I should have added a section about white guilt.

And if you don't like my thread, nothing is keeping you here; you could just leave and ignore this thing.
If you're being made to feel guilt by association, then that's your prerogative, I'm afraid. I can think of very few games that would cause "white guilt" where it did so on purpose. And maybe you're thinking games like Spec Ops: The Line, but that's supposed to make you feel iffy about the army, not all white people. I think it showcases an insecurity in your own confidence that those things affect you, because I'm sure in most cases no-one is trying to make you feel bad for being white. "White guilt" usually comes from white people, and I don't think it's comparable to white racism.

And I don't like this thread, you're right, but my dislike for it and my misguided urge to speak my opinion are at odds with each other. I will post in this thread about not liking that I am posting in this thread! And you can't do anything about it! AHA. FREEDOM.

that ever single stupid game has to have mutiplayer co-up. i remember reading reviews of great games the lose points because of the multiplayer. i am sick of seeing the "log in to play onlin" message on every game i put on

Here's one for yea: violence. Why does almost every game have to contain a violent element? Why can't we have games without violence!
A noble thought, certainly, but combat (be it shooting, hand to hand, aerial, whatever) is something that games just do well. Drama, comedy, romance all that stuff is simply done better in film and tv (controlled, non interactive media). Maybe we could amend that to toning down graphic, realistic violence- which i agree has probably had it's day.

I'm not sure how racism fits into this topic anywhere tbh- particularly racism towards whites. Maybe it's a factor in some recent games I haven't played (spec ops), but I certainly don't think anyone could reasonably call it a gaming trend.

Sexism, on the other hand, is omnipresent and tangibly holding this hobby of ours back. I, for example, am a huge fan of 3rd person action games like bayonetta and the DMC series. But I feel that these games' clever mechanics and genuine artistry are undermined by the really crass objectification of women which means that while I will still play them, I'll be slightly ashamed of myself and I certainly wouldn't dream of showing them to my non-gaming mates (esp those of the female persuasion).

I would like to stop seeing heterosexuality brave male characters...not saying I hate that or I have a problem but hell back in the Ps2 and 1 we had furries, aliens, females and hell sometimes just blocks. For once I'd like to see maybe a cowardly male protagonist, or instead of save the girlfriend maybe save the boyfriend? I just would like to see a lot more different people, like a Mech game with a female pilot or maybe a costume character that we can make how we want not only with clothes but how they act!

Gamers always bitching and moaning about their hobby.

If a game has features you don't like, don't play it.

It's supposed to be fun. Whatever your definition of fun is, stick with that and enjoy it, and leave others to their own enjoyment.
The problem is when such trends rear their ugly heads in games you love to play. I dislike extremely long and dull tutorials, and yet I love Persona 4, for example. Besides, bitching and moaning is fun.

Trying to target a different demographic than what the game is made for. A lot of the time when companies try to make their game appeal to everyone at once or try to bring in a new crowd they just end up butchering the original which no one wants because the fans of it aren't getting what the game was meant to be and the new audience won't buy it because it doesn't interest them. Examples of this would be simplifying combat or gameplay in general to appeal to people. Adding RPG elements to a game which really do not need it. This goes by many names and it always makes me worry whenever I hear words like "the game has been streamlined to make it play better" or "We are trying to broaden the appeal of the game to other gamers".

QTE. This one gets broken down into two categories. Unnecessary QTE in the form of rapidly mash X to open a door or to lament about your life. These always feel annoying and don't really add anything to the experience past mashing a button rapidly, there is no challenge or fun in it the same thing could be accomplished by pressing the button once and having the character perform the action or just have it as part of a cutscene as they usually occur during or around the time of
a cutscene anyway so it isn't really taking away any gameplay.

The other type are QTE in boss battles sure sometimes they can be fun but they seem to take away some of the accomplishment in the fight if the super cool awesome move I just did was 3 or 4 button presses.

Blaming pretty much any criticism towards a game on the fact that gamers are just being entitled. It shows a lack of professionalism to attack people just because they don't like what you made. Yes sometimes it can be rather extreme in what happened but when you make claims about your product and people find out that they aren't true and complain then they aren't being entitled.
