I've been really digging this. Attacking the enemy base as a soldier or speeding back to the base with the flag at 230 sanics are some of the most intense multiplayer experiences I've had thus far.

They sure need to iron out the latency issues though.

Tribes was one of my favorite multiplayer shooters.
Though I'm wary if the move to MMO-status will ruin it (grind, pay2win items...I don't know the direction the game is going yet, but these sorts of things are almost always found in MMOs if they don't use a subscription to make money).

Sadly, I don't have enough time right now to get a Beta key and play it...nevermind that would require me breaking one of my biggest rules: NEVER GO TO FACEBOOK.

You should be happy then because its anything but a move toward MMO status. Its still large arena's with you going against an enemy team. CTF is the most popular game style thus far but the others are fine.

Thus far, you can use real money to buy classes and the developers have said there will likely be things like skins too. They will not be having any item or class that must be purchased only with money. As it stands now you can pay money to unlock classes which is the convienance but if you want to you can also spend the in game currency for the same thing. So no, theres no pay to win stuff in the game at this time and Ive heard of no plans to add pay to win stuff either

Ok can someone answer a question for a newbie?
How the hell do I do dat dere defense thingy? I have no idea how to defend a base right now, they usaully ski past grabbing the flag and I fail to catch up to them.

Im currently saving up for the techncian class so that I can give that a try for defense but im not too sure what to do at the moment.

Also the spinfuser. It's so cool and yet so cruel to me, looking easy to use and actully being very hard to master.

Loving the game so far though, I may even be able to get my friends give the game ago since it's going to be free to play.

Thanks for the information, honestly.
Sounds like it's closer to League of Legends in that regard, which I'll take as a compromise (grinding for IP was a drag for a long time, but at least I was playing the game rather than just repeating some incredibly simple, mundane task repeatedly..)

It's just that for most MMOs, the business side of things interferes too much in the design aspect, and you end up with the forementioned killjoys.

Besides, I'm not complaining about those things because I'm a cheap asshole who doesn't want to pay; I'd gladly buy it in retail if it were worth the price seeing how I've been waiting for Tribes or another shooter like it to return.

The new update really makes it closer to the older Tribes games with customizable loadouts and all.

I like that they merged some of the classes together too.

Right, got it working finally.

Loving the game, it's like playing TF2's Scout on crack.

I'm slowly getting the hang of landing all these projectile weapons too.

Fun game!

.
Take the heavy class thats unlocked at the beginning (cant remember which exact one it is) and plant your fat ass smack bang on top of the flag. Any pathfinder will smash right into you and lose his speed, thus becoming an easy target. Obviously you cant sit on the flag the whole game because it will become predictable and what not, but with a little situational awareness, its a godsend for your team. And fucking annoying for me, because im the pathfinder swerving in and swerving out again.

As for catching up, well, unless you get lucky or the enemy sucks, catching up to a light enemy with a medium or heavy class is damn near impossible. At least it should be if the flag carrier is any good.

OT: I am having an absolute blast. Pathfinder is SO MUCH DAMN FUN. Landing a perfect shot with the spinfusor before zooming through enemy defenses to grab the flag, going at over 200km/h the whole way, is probably the most fun I have ever had with an FPS game.
Thanks for the advice and I agree about the pathfinder. So much fun =D although i'd been playing the soldier up till now since I found the thumper pretty easy to use, unless this heavy tactic works incredibly well I can see myself using pathfinder a lot since the best defense seems to be taking their flag so they can't score then just surviving untill your team returns the flag so you can score.

Also what's everyones fav faction so far, the blood eagles are cool and all but so far I am prefering the Diamond sword.

Odd, random question: Is the Command Circuit back? Or did they nix it?

Because I actually rather loved how it worked in Tribes 2; you could give order to focus on strategy: notify teammates of necessary repairs, interceptions (gunning down would-be flag runners), incoming armor, taking direct control of deployed/bass defenses, or just giving newbies some directions.

You mean being able to say "Get their flag" by pressing "VAF" or something? (Not sure if thats the exact command.)

If you do, yes, its back, and people actually use it.
Shazbot!

I actually enjoy how team focus'd my games have been so far, it's quite enjoyable.

Not quite (though you could do that via the Command Circuit in Tribes 2).

That's the general layout of the CC, though whoever recorded it isn't using it for such (this is simply the cleanest shot of the CC I could find).

Ah, I think they ditched that. I forgot all about it to be honest. You can still look at an area of the map and give commands and the game will drop a marker their though.
Sounds like they integrated it into the regular HUD and cut down on the complexity a bit.
In Tribes 2, for CTF and C&H matches, having a solid base commander made life sooo much easier, and they could generally contribute to the fights remotely via deployed equipment if they needed to.

At least there's some form of basic command left; it's rather necessary on battlefields of that scale.
