Tribute to your state

Tell other escapists some great things about the state you live in. Things and places that are interesting, stuff that is historically significant, etc.

My State is North Carolina:
First in Flight--Wright brothers flew their plane in Kitty Hawk, NC.
Sir Walter Raleigh landed on the shores of NC and the first native American to visit Europe was from NC, his name was Manteo
It is home to the Carolina Panthers (NFL) and the Durham bulls (Bull durham was the movie that made em famous)
NC is rather unique because the western border has the Appalachian mountains and the east coast has beautiful beaches, you cant go wrong no matter which side you visit
Saving the best for last: NC is the home of the Escapist!

I live in Utah, man. If I tried to do a tribute to my state, I'd probably be attacked by three dozen retards foaming at the mouth with anti-Mormon slurs.
Besides that, I really don't know anything that's happened here worth mentioning. I just don't care that much about it.
Oh wait, I know something. My University has the largest folklore archive and program in the western United States - by virtue of the fact that it's pretty much the only folklore archive and program in the western United States, but you take what you can get. Woohoo! Go Utah!

The province of Alberta:
Full of the biggest morons in all of Canada, and though I enjoy living here, I am ashamed of my fellow countrymen.
I am not going to give credit to something like the Drumheller "dinosaur graveyard," because those are simply resources you get stuck with, not something a human deliberately did. So, here are some things Albertans did:
-Tar sands: ecological nightmare destroying the ecosystem in northern Alberta.
-Athabasca river: hanks to refineries and the tar sands development, we have polluted this river beyond belief.

Yes but we do not have to pay up the ass in provincial taxes, imagine newfound land with there 17% pst on top of 5% gst.

Yeah Alberta does suck and i want to move to BC as soon as i can, Calgary and Edmonton are just smog central.

I live in South Australia. It is hot and dry, most of it is desert, our only river is drying up, the wildlife can kill you, the insects can kill you, the heat can definitely kill you, the radiation from where they tested nukes here can kill you, it hardly rains but when it does finally rain the floods can kill you, and we have Michael Atkinson who can't kill you but tries to take away your porn and computer games which makes you depressed and then you run the risk of killing yourself.

On the plus side... the alcohol is good here, it can kill you, but you'd want to drink yourself half to death if you lived here anyway, probably.

Washington state:

First flying saucer sighting ever happened in our state.

We gave birth to Starbucks.

Not very note worthy, but cool.

I've lived in 3 states.


Utah: Orange rocks, green water, mysterious rock arches, Omanyte fossils in the rock walls.

Nevada: A giant corn maze, small pyramid-shaped mountains jutting out of a lake, the 3D theater at Boomtown no IMAX can hold a candle too, the rest of Boomtown, ghost towns.

Washington: Get unbelievably lost in Seattle, only hours after getting even more lost in Portland Oregon. See cars attempt to drive through flood waters. Marvel at how green everything is compared to where you live (probably), see the giant orange cranes & rainbow cargo uglying up the bay area, waste halves of hours waiting for the train to move so you can get on with your life, admire the impossible crowd at Uwojimaya.

Victoria. We don't have funnel webs! But we do have snakes, lots and lots of snakes. And during the summer its ranges from a boiling heat to a constant damp. Then of course we have the largest population of drops bears so you should never look up when under trees.

We've had 4 presidents born in this state (Both Adams, Kennedy and Bush Sr.). Ironically they were all born in the same County as well.

Basketball was invented in Springfield Massachusetts

I'm in South Australia as well. Pretty good assessment there. South Australia is the driest State in the driest 'inhabited' continent in the world. Many things that can kill you and we like to advertise the fact. I wonder why...

Amazingly, I don't live in america (shocking I know) but Australia has states so I'll write about NSW... We have bathurst and some awsome beaches.

I live in Texas, and were I to give it a tribute, it would be that it is a state of utter contridiction. It is a state of high-technology were ludittes run rampant. A staunch red state who's capital plays host to the most liberal people in the nation. It is a state of progress and regression, science and religion, and with one foot it rushes to the future and the other it flees to an idealized past.

One's opinion of the state is likely built upon the activity that merits national recognition - conservatism, religion and the like. These are surely present, but in a state the size of Texas it is largely a geographical distinction. In the southernmost bands the population is largely liberal, catholic and spanish speaking. Further north (San Antonio, Austin, Houston) is rather undecided, with San Antonio erring on the side of conservative etc, austin being fantastically liberal and Houston offering no significant lead either way. High Technology is centered primarily around the Dallas/Fort Worth area and while the metroplex is as generic as an ultra-large city can possibly be, simply collecting 8 million people into the space is sufficent to ensure immense diversity. In the high plains (Amarillo, Lubbock, lots of cities you've never heard of) and west texas (El Paso, Midland etc) the population is overwhelmingly conservative and the rest. In the last presidential election, the returns showed 86% McCain, 14% Obama. It is primarily the denizens of this part of the state that say and do the things that make people roll their eyes at our antics, and it is unfortunately also where I currently reside.
