Nothing wrong with Halloween parties though. Some of the costumes girls wear are great.
Nothing wrong with parties, I went to one a few years ago, it was fun, but it was thrown by an American ex-pat, and most of all it didn't inconvenience anyone; seriously banging on my bloody door whining for lollies (NOT CANDY!) is just obnoxious.

I'm an aussie and I went to a Halloween party with a few mates, was great fun. Any excuse to wear a costume, though with my friends many prefer to show up as internet memes or videogame characters rather than anything horror specific.

Oh yeah...and no firearms....and no gore in games....damn Australia sounds horrible.
I've still got firearms... and I've got gory games... what are you talking about? As for why it pisses me off, it's Sunday, I don't want people banging on my door while I'm trying to relax, and it's a foreign holiday, there is a perfectly good traditional holiday a week away if you want to take your kids out, why import from another culture that you've got nothing to do with?

If it was a bunch of little American kids wandering around celebrating their own culture I'd be more supportive, but it's just Australian kids wanting lollies, so they can piss off.

It's just bloody stupid. I'm probably going to get a whole bunch of little kiddies demanding sweets soon, though fortunately it's still a bit too early right now. I'll probably just yell at them for a while.

to me there is a difference between a halloween themed party and trick or treating.

You're Canadian, right? Have you noticed that many fewer people are celebrating Hallowe'en than a decade or even a half-decade ago?
I think it's a product of the economic climate. People just don't have the money to go out and buy costumes or candy like they used to. I also think it's a bit of a generation transition, from the Echo Boom to the new geenration, which so far seems smaller then what ours (mine, at least) was.

I'm surprised Hallowe'en isn't celebrated in Australia. Do you guys have a major autumn spring holiday that rivals the United States' Thanksgiving or Hallowe'en?

EDIT: I'm sorry, I had forgotten that Summer is approaching for you guys instead of Winter. My bad. But the question still stands. Is there a springtime festival or holiday over there around this time?
Why yes. There is this thing called "Leaver"s" or "Schoolies if you are from the east coast. It is at the end of november where all the school leaving age kids celebrate the end of school. Most of the kids who have already left school to go to TAFE or apprenticships join in too.
We do have grand final weekend at the end of september and Melbourne Cup day.

Other than that not really.

Also it is not uncommon for people to have Halloween parties but that is just an excuse for a piss up and to really a celebration of anything that means something to us.

Do you really think they are gonna be spooked by anything some cheesey hallmark holiday could ever produce?
Kids dont walk around in Freedy outfits. They dress up like damn koalas!
thats another reason why its a stupid holiday to celebrate in australia. with it being so hallmarked down its not even a real holiday. its just an excuse to sell lollies and customes and release movies.

Were working on the gore. And I am so glad we don't have firearms like america. People are stupid, I don't trust them to have weapons designed to kill other people. Nobody needs guns.

Also, who keeps that much junk food around their house? No wonder kids are fat these days.

No we have nothing like that. Actaully I wouldn't even know wtf Thanksgiving is celebrating. (and i refuse to google it)
We have no spring holiday, just these:
Easter (Monday+Friday)
Australia day (26th Jan) - same as your 4th july
Christmas (25th)
BOxing Day (26th Dec)
Queens Birthday (Monday 2nd week June, unless WA which is in October)
Labour Day (State holiday, dependent on state see above)

I think that's it. Every weekend in Aus is like a holiday anyway :p We are very lucky.
Pretty much. There are parties every weekend. The only diffference is that they become themed on "holidays".

every kid that comes to my door i just wanna say go away and i do expect politely for instance 'Halloween is a American thing' and 'Santa doesn't exist'[Not Really] but what do you say to kids that come to your door?
SANTA DOESN'T EXIST? Next thing I know Jesus or God probably don't exist either...

I love Halloween since it allows me to be creative but I wish i could drive and pick out supplies for a costume on my own since my mom is a pain to work with. :p

Yeah, I wouldn't have heard of it unless it wasn't on American cartoons that I watched as a kid. Who would come up with such a thing anyway? I'm not gonna Google it because I don't care enough.

And I reckon that it is just a excuse for Herseys to sell more candy. And I reckon... well I was wreckin' your mom last night (Just kidding :D)

Well for some reason my endorphins are going crazy like I am on happy pills so I love everything, including Halloween. (What was in that damn protein shake?)

Why would we 'celebrate' Halloween? What is there to celebrate?

OT: I posted a sign on the door saying "No candy. Piss off." XD
Good luck cleaning the egg and toilet paper off your house in the morning then. :|

There's plenty of gore in our games. This only came to light 'cause of Left 4 Dead 2 getting censored. About 98% of all our games get in as MA 15+ without anything done to them.

Seriously. I've got copies of Prototype and Dead Space, both unmodified.

Oh, and LOLGUNS. I wouldn't even trust myself with a gun.

We have firearms. We don't have any fully autos but the amount of firepower you can get your hands on if you have the opportunity to use it is well and truly enough. Besides, it's more fun to go buy some $400 running order Commodore or Falcon and thrash the shit out of it.
