And got absolutely trolled by the game. First of all there is some kinda bug that new beta players spawn with no basic weapons or anything! So it's walk around till you get shot! Kinda disappointing. Eventually I worked around the problem, you see if you spawn as a tank or armored car you can run around and use the gun and shoot people. Good stuff.

Been playing since Tuesday night.

Haven't encountered that bug, but found plenty of others.

There's a seemingly universal one where players can't level up classes, meaning nobody can unlock anything beyond the first tier equipment.

This in turn has made tanks, and light tanks in particular, disgustingly overpowered because nobody has access to the decent tank-killing gear. I've gone on multiple perfect round 30+ kill sprees despite not playing a BF game in years.

Also been getting intermittent brief freezes which is incredibly annoying. Nothing like going into a tank battle, then freezing after your first shot then being dead when it recovers.

Bugs aside the game is... alright. I'm a little disappointed. They gutted rush mode. It's only 12v12 now which feels empty considering the size of the maps and the fact that you could have over half your team in vehicles.

Something about the weapon handling feels off. Maybe I just need to get accustomed.

There's a way to get around the leveling bug, though I think DICE might have already addressed it.

Tanks do seem OP, but only because of what you said: to kill a tank, an infantry literally has to put his balls up to it.

I haven't been getting freezes. Maybe once or twice.

On Rush, I don't know. I thought 12v12 would be too small as well, but on the 5 or 6 games I played last night, there was always something going.

As for the gunplay, DICE introduced this weird new spread mechanic where burst firing your weapon is makes your accuracy worse.

OT: After 5 hours of playing, I have to say that this game needs a lot of tuning. However, it is still fun. Vehicles are the major upgrade in this iteration, and I think DICE did it brilliantly.

Disclaimer : I was never going to buy the 120 dollar game to begin with, so my judgement may have been coloured by inherent negativity.

Trying to get into a game:
-It took over 15 minutes to even connect to EA's servers. Not unheard of on launch, but certainly not inspiring.
-Playing with friends was damn near impossible. There's no way to form a squad outside of a match. Choosing friends in the hidden tab on the far right simply brought up their PS4 profile with the option to watch them play, but not join)
-Quickmatch on the home screen did eventually turn into "Join friend in game". For one friend, with no way to cycle it. Or for that matter, no option to join a different quickmatch.
-Server browser doesn't work at all, simply stating no servers are found. Even when searching specifically for the server that was up.
-After finally getting thrown in a queue and waiting 10 minutes trying to join a friend. "Failed to connect. Unknown Error". This repeated for 12 minutes straight.

In the game:
-Spawned in a plane. Almost immediately crashed it because my control options didn't save when I set up my flying controls and were backwards.
-Efforts to fix this highlighted that the options menu seems to lock up the game, or somehow be afflicted by server lag. It took almost 10 seconds for the menu to respond at all, and moving about it was still suffering delays.
-Having fixed my controls, got in a vehicle. Either there's another option somewhere in the menu for ground vehicles, or some vehicles just ignore your control preference. Ended up rolling the vehicle and dying as a result.
-Having abandoned the vehicles for now, played as infantry for awhile. Eventually I died, and a medic revived me. This inexplicably locked my character in the sprint animation, even while not sprinting. All actions like highlighting a target, using vehicles or gun emplacements, and shooting were no longer possible. This glitched state perservered through 4 deaths before I quit out the game and restarted.
-After another 20 minutes to finally get our group in one game again. I managed to actually play some games. Weapons felt absolutely random in accuracy except the sniper gun.
-Hilarious physics ensued like the fact that a horse can stop a tank by standing in its way, preumably because a hrrse is a "vehicle" in-engine.
-After each round end, had to go through the 10-20 minutes trying to reform the group in one match, as it arbitrarily sent everyone into different ones.
-More visual glitches, including the tripwire for the tripwire mines always angling and clipping into the ground rather then being visible. In our testing, friendlies at least couldn't set it off. I'm not sure if enemies even could.
-A tank was one-shot by a sniper rifle, as far as anyone could tell. Not the driver, which might make sense, but the tank itself exploded.

Problem with Rush on Sinai Desert is that it has too many tanks for 24 players. Both sides get 3(?). One tank on defence and two on offence could help it a lot.

That spread mechanic is only for LMGs. SMGs are still burst guns for med/long range. And it isn't even new mechanic: Bad Company 1 and 2 had it. And I'm not completely sure, but I think BF2 had it as well, it's been long time since I played that. Only problem with this mechanic is that most LMGs in BF1 has small magazines. In BC most LMGs had 100 or 200 rounds, so you could easily spray for long time and get great accuracy. Now it feels like everytime I finally get accurate with a LMG I have to reload.

Haven't had any bugs yet, but God the submachine guns need a nerf. These were the first real submachine guns, so don't basically make them the equivalent of assault rifles like in regular Battlefield games. That's incredibly lame. And no DICE don't give me that bullshit about 'dynamic gameplay' or some shit. Dare to do something different for once.

Otherwise, having a ton of fun. The dogfighting feels incredible.

The season pass is 50. Deluxe edition is 70+40 or something (your currency may vary). Which includes map packs. If you don't have the maps, you can't play on them. As the number of DLC maps grows, this means matches become increasingly hard to find. Assuming they don't just straight up require you to have all maps installed to play online.

I doubt they'll require you to have all the maps to play online, that makes no sense from any angle.

However, the rest is still bullshit. I'd have hoped the industry would've done away with map DLC, it's been becoming more popular to do so at least, but this is EA we're talking about. That does make me quite wary of getting this as I too don't plan on investing a lot in it. The core game feels really solid but whether it's worth it then remains to be seen.

You're probably the first person I know who thinks that. The automatics in this game are garbage. I would rather use the bolt actions or the semi autos any day.

Actually, nope on both counts. You don't need to have any/all of the DLCs to play the game, at least for Battlefield 4.

And for some reason, buying the season pass has the opposite effect. A year into BF4's release, and I couldnt find a single DLC server. Maybe in the week that the DLC releases a player with the base game would be hard pressed to find a game, but generally the game's servers always slowly gravitate back to being Vanilla maps only.

Really? Shit man if I burst fire a little that starting SMG has crazy range and grouping. Much more than it should have.

It may be just because I am coming off BF4, but the SMGs in this game (as well as the LMG's) have the worst spread I have ever seen in an FPS game. What is your standard for comparison?

It may depend on region, but in mine, most of the servers have a few DLC maps in them, and you can't connect to a server with a map that you don't own the DLC for in the playlist.

I'm fine with being kicked for not having the map, I'm cool with whatever, but the DLC practice is really poor. You're right, a lot of DLC maps drop from rotation, but that's not really a point in their favour. If you get the DLC, you need to play the maps right then, or you may not get the chance, same with the game modes. And otherwise, you may need some just for the ones that become part of common playlists.

It's one of the worst DLC practices in multiplayer. It's about disposable content and making it a pain.

Also, the premium queueing is major bullshit.
When is the last time you checked? It's more than likely that there are DLC servers only because EA released all of the DLC for BF4 for free.

I'm not defending the DLC, in fact, if I had bought premium at full price instead of 75% off, I would probably regret my decision. I was incredibly disappointed when DICE revealed that this game had Premium too. At the same time, I would rather pay for map packs then get slowly drip fed free content at the cost of having microtransactions in the game. I hear its not too bad in Rainbow Six Siege, but then Siege has tiny ass maps compared to Battlefield's, well, battlefields.

I don't really compare it with a different game, the last 'proper' shooter I played a lot was BF3 I think and even that I mostly remember for C4 shenanigans. I mostly feel like it's too much within the game. It feels wrong to be so easily killed by those things at the distances that I was. I mean it fires a pistol round! I expect it to perform like a Counter Strike Mac-10 or something, not fill the same niche as assault rifles would fill in different games (even though it performs worse than that).

I can get them being an option for the assault class. But where's my standard weapons? Why are those restricted to the Scout class? I want my Lee Enfield dammit and not play a damned Scout. It feels so damn wrong. Someone else mentioned it on Reddit to me, but instead of making it feel properly like WW1 and using that to its strength DICE chickened out and just made it a crappy version of WW2.

Love the game, but they really need to make the machine guns on the plane more effective than lobbing wet paper. I must of unloaded 100 rounds into a fighter that was pursuing my bomber and it didn't go down.

Considering how my controller is half broken, I don't know if the problems I've encountered are a result of a bug or the controller. (or me just being bad)

Except one, where I went to spawn in a vehicle and right after I spawned it got blown up, and I wasn't able to respawn for the rest of the match.

However, I've enjoyed myself, and I plan to keep hopping in until the beta is over.
