Well I decided to make this thread to discuss Minecraft, because I just feel like talking about it. And in my forum search, I found that there hasn't been a regular discussion thread involving Minecraft in the past few weeks. There will be a few points of discussion, so I think it is worth making this thread. Really, since the game can be pretty unpredictable at times, it?s hard not to find something to talk about.

First I?ll give one point to talk about, and that is for people like me that somewhat like, or people that love the game, what are some little things that you don?t like about it?

I don?t like the broken tool sound that was added not too long ago(at least new to me because I hadn't played in a few months. First, I don?t really need it because I know when it happens as the tool disappears from my hand, but second, I don?t know why, but it catches me off guard and it startles me. It really is a negative type of sound, and I guess I don?t like sounds that give a negative feeling. There are also a few of the ?a cave is nearby? sounds that I could do without because they are too creepy sounding for me.

Now I know I have nothing big to worry about since I only play in Peaceful Mode(because I could never get a hang of playing with enemies around, they got in the way of my building/mining. I could do creative mode, but that takes the fun out of mining and finding things), the only real thing I have to fear is lava, but I don?t know why I still get a nervous feeling when I?m mining in the deep areas of my world. Maybe it is the just a silly fear of the unknown.

Another thing that got me to create this thread is that the latest world I?ve been playing in seems to be a world of firsts, and a very strangely generated world.

The firsts: I?ve had three other worlds since the game finally was fully released, but these things hadn?t happened in those worlds.

1.) I didn?t spawn near an area that was bordered by a large bit of ocean. There are only little pond like spots.

2.) I?ve actually spawned in an area that is really rich in both coal and iron. I spawned on a hill that is only 12 or so steps from a ravine like area that leads into a cave. It is around a 30 or so block drop to the bottom. The cave lead right to a dungeon that was actually quite open and I just strolled in and took the goodies. I called it the "Saddle Dungeon", because there were two saddles in one box and another in the other box. There was also two gunpowder, one string, two bread, three wheat, and two buckets

3.) I finally found an apple out on the surface. It was laying on the ground under a tree. The only other times I found apples were in dungeon boxes.

4.) I actually found an abundant source of clay near my spawn, two groups of 64 worth in the first haul, and there is plenty more to go back for.

5.) I was also very excited to find that only just a few hundred blocks away from my spawn point, just out of sight distance, is a village. I had never encountered a village in my other worlds and I had traveled a good ways in all directions in them. It is a nice little town. There are around ten or so different buildings. A three-story watch tower, a house with a deck on top(fenced in roof), a blacksmith crafting type area, three separate large crop fields, and one house has its own library. Now, there is also a house that has a box, which had a nice small bit of items in it. I decided to steal from the poor buggers, because of course I?m poor myself. It had two loaves of bread, an apple, a string, three steel bars, and three pieces of diamond(Yeah! It?s enough to make a pickaxe without having to find it while mining.)

6.) Just before I started this thread, I was mining around forty or so blocks below my ravine, sort of deep away from the surface entrance, when I heard rain, but also THUNDER. I had experienced rain showers in my other worlds, but no thunderstorms. So, I?ll head out of the cave to take a look after I make this thread.

Now, I have to also say that this new world is very interesting because my spawn point is near all the different types of biomes. On one side of the village is a normal grassy forest type area, and on the other is a desert area that is right next to a snowy area. Then on one side of my spawn point is a very mountainous area that is next to a marshland/rainforest type area with the vines on trees, and lots of brown and red mushrooms around it, and it had a lot of sugar cane, and tons of lily-pads around the small bodies of water in the area.

To refresh your mind on the first question for this thread and add two more:

Even though you like the game, what are some little things that you don?t like, things that seem rather trivial?

What do you name your new worlds? This latest one, I called it Craft Effect, because I had just got done playing ME3 before I made the world.

Also, what are some of the weirdest and/or most interesting experiences that you have had in Minecraft?

Since it has been twenty-four hours, I'm going to bump my thread since nobody else has posted in it. Though I'm doing this for a good reason, I have more to add to my story of my world of "Craft Effect".

Well, while digging a deep and long passage into the ravine near my spawn point, I found a large cave network that has a even more coal and iron. I found three 64 batches of coal and 64 iron. There is still even more coal and iron to pick up, I didn't have enough room in my inventory for more.

Though I also found another open walk-in dungeon. And I know I called that last dungeon the "Saddle Dungeon" because I found three saddles in the treasure box, but this latest dungeon had double the saddles. I call it the "Uber-Saddle Dungeon Of Double Music".

In the first treasure box in this dungeon, I found one saddle, and two duplicate music discs, both are "C418-cat" discs. Then in the second treasure box, I found 5 saddles. The rest of the contents was 3 strings, 2 wheat, and 1 gunpowder.

The music discs add to my world of firsts, because I had never found a music disc in my other worlds.

My world of "Craft Effect" is turning out to be the best world I've started.

So, does anybody on at the moment have funny stories of Minecraft like mine? Maybe I just didn't post this thread at a good time, it was almost 2am when I first started this thread yesterday, and it is just past 3am now, though of course it is daytime somewhere.

Note on your apple story: this is not an accident. Until a recent patch, apples only spawned in dungeon. Now, they drop from trees sometimes if a leaf block is destroyed.

Anyway, I'm currently in the process of constructing a triple-digit-strong army of snow golems. I have a pumpkin farm, so I have infinite pumpkins to work with. Snow golems generate more snow, so I have infinite snow to work with. Soon, I will conquer the world! (as long as it doesn't get too warm outside.)

EDIT: I forgot to add my trivial dislikes!

I dislike that the creepy cave sound effects sometimes play when you are outside of (but nearby) a cave. Often, I hear it when I'm walking over a peaceful, flower-covered field full of grazing sheep, because I cave that isn't even open to the air is a few feet underneath the ground. Ruins the atmosphere.

Not to mention, I built my house out of cobblestone. Now, the game thinks that I'm in a cave whenever I'm at home, and plays those cave sounds. >_<

I also don't like that you have to kill so many Endermen and Flares to reach the End. Surely I proved that I am worthy after #30, game! Come on, at least give the items I need 100% chance to drop! I doubt I'll ever get to fight that dragon.

My recent world that I started spawned me on the edge of a jungle biome with a mushroom island off in the distance. I built a tree fort/house that continuously expands over the tree tops so at night I run around up top raining arrows upon the unfortunate bottom dwellers.

Mushroom island also gives me an infinite amount of mushroom soup.

I actually just finished my giant bridge to the mushroom island that goes straight from my tree fort.

The cave network I have found appears to be infinite... I have come across 4 underground ravines in it along with 2 abandoned mine shafts.

I have found 14 diamonds, a stack of gold, more iron than I will ever need, waaay more coal than I will ever need, and 4 different music disks.

I got bored of searching the nether for a fortress to get blaze rods so I decided to take a break from that and build a gigantic tower.

I also have a melon and pumpkin farm along with a sugar cane farm to make bookshelves for enchanting.

I have not died yet.

The funniest thing that happened to me would be when I first got lost in my cave system (I forgot to bring a compass...) and wondered for what seemed like a couple of ours. I ended up making it close to the surface when a creeper jumped and I leaped away from the explosion just far enough away to save my life. The resulting explosion blew a whole in the side of the mountain on my mushroom island. I walked out into the sun light right next to my mushroom island house out of sheer dumb luck.

I always bring a compass with me now.

Also, pro survival tip, always carry around a bucket of water.

And as you probably already know, NEVER EVER dig straight down. If you do, terrible shit will eventually happen to you.

Ha! Snow Golems? Bring it on, bitches! Face my army of sniper Snow Golems, look-out and creeper repelling kitties, body-guard wolves, storm trooper Iron Golems and using the bukkit Autocraft plug-in, paratrooper Iron Golems!

I just fly my airship over, drop Golems off the side and watch the battle. 'Cause, you know, Golems don't take fall damage. Although, Snow Golems die so fucking quickly, so I always come back to a tower full of snow, snowballs and arrows. Damn skeletons always sniping my Golems!

"He's sniping my Golem!"

I made one Iron Golem, but man, those things are expensive. I need that iron for picks, swords, and armor, dude.

The one I made just wandered off and stands around on top of the nearby ice-lake haning out with the cows, anyway.

Oh, funny thing: The world I'm in right now, the area around my spawn has lots of large ice lakes (no ocean.)

For some reason, the lakes are covered with hundreds of cows and sheep. What do they eat out there? I surely do not know.

I also found that one of the lakes has lava underneath it. That just looks way cool.

Definitely agree about the cave sounds. Creepy stuff, that, even when I know there's nothing to be worried about. Made a home suspended under this hollow mountain type piece of the landscape, and since some of it's carved into the stone, I'll get the cave sounds quite a lot when I'm standing around crafting items or what have you.

I farm wool to escape the "getting lost in cave systems" problem, since I'm weird and don't use a compass. I just bring a bunch of brightly-colored wool with me into caves, and make "arrows" (really they're just L-shapes) that point out which way I came from/where the exit is, since things start to look the same pretty fast in an abandoned mineshaft.

True... but when you have a huge base, just wall it off around the edges, so it surrounds your house, mining area, farms etc. and the Golem will patrol the area. Or, make a mineshaft and then have a door at any exits. Make a Golem inside, the Golem never leaves, patrols your mineshaft and keeps it safe, and best of all, it works for ravines too, because they don't take fall damage.

EDIT:

Golems don't like water either, so a 3 wide moat keeps them inside. Also, you can make Golem Barracks, an under-cover shelter for the Golems when it rains. When it rains, Golems run for cover, it doesn't hurt them or anything, they just hate it. So it usually means you end up with your Golems sitting under your balcony and blocking your door.

I like the game a lot. My only gripe about the game is that it very much plays like a game developed by an inexperienced indie, damn near amateur, game developer. I've seen things accomplished by the modding community that blow the devs out of the water in that game.

The game has been a resounding success and with the financial resources the game sales have generated, why has the game not improved? Why do we have to rely on mods that can greatly improve FPS and add proper visual settings? Come on Notch fix the game. You've got enough funding now.

Yeah... it is a bit odd. He said in some twitter or blog or something far far away on the other side of the internet that he didn't want to get a big dev team because it would... not be his own or something? I'm not sure how to say it, but like, you know, too many game developers make a new CoD... or was it spoil the game?

Anyway, the point is, he either doesn't want to spend his vast swimming pools of money on a more people to help work on MC, wants to keep the game all to himself like some kind of dog with a really big and expensive golden bone or has some other agenda.

I dunno...

EDIT:

Wait wait, I think it was something like keeping the game personal, not like a big company game like CoD, making sure it was him and the small dev team making the game so it came out how they wanted it, not how some big guy with money who has never touched a controller wanted it.

I dunno...

I landed on an Island
In an ocean biome
without any trees
O.O

On another note I do with torches could be thrown or at least light up the place when you hold it, I'm sick of having only 1 left and having to either run in the dark or place, break, place.

I have too look up how to make a golem, and also find out how to farm pumpkins, because I've only found one pumpkin in my latest world.

On the cave sounds, I don't get that from my cobble stone house. If I remember correctly the cave sound happens when you are within 8 blocks of a dark enclosed area. My brother told me that you can make a cube out of whatever blocks you have, and have the center be empty and you can walk by it and get a cave sound.

So I would say that you either built your house over a cave, or somewhere in your house while making it you accidentally enclosed one square or more off from everything else, making it total dark inside, and that is why you keep getting the cave sounds.

Yeah, there is a mushroom jungle a few hundred blocks from my spawn point, collected about 30 so far, though there is plenty more.

I won't have to farm sugar cane at the moment, because with in a few hundred blocks of my spawn, near that mushroom jungle, I collected 130 pieces of sugar cane.

This new world of mine, is just full of all the resources, well, I do have to go all the way to the jungle to find cows, plenty of sheep and chickens near me, though I've only seen one pig.

I hope I don't die in my new world, because I tend to get over-frustrated when I die that I end up not playing the game for days, and end up creating a new world. It just seems that I always die at a time when I've been mining for a half hour or so and I'm loaded down with awesome stuff, then I fall into a deep lava pit and lose it all(this seems to happen every time, though the last three times wasn't my fault, my movement got buggy and my guy would stop walking, doh, he walk straight into the lava).

I always bring a bucket of water, but it I've never been able to use it when I fall in those deep pools of lava where I can't seem to get back onto the stone next to the pool. Oh, and I don't dig straight up or down anymore. Never up because of possible falling sand or gravel, lava isn't too bad in this case, because it falls/flows real slow.

Also, I also got lost in a cave system like that a few months ago on one of my first worlds. I really started to worry when I was running out of torches(just for seeing, because I only play on peaceful), but it isn't too hard to get back to the surface by digging up in a staggered manner.

I don't know, other than adding more new and interesting items to use and make, I don't see him really doing anything else with it.

Really, there are so many mods for textures and other things in the game, that other people made, that he probably doesn't see a point in making the game better in such ways because people have already done it for him. Even if he does do something to make what your are talking about better, even if what he does is well, there will most likely still be a vast majority of people making and using mods, and not using what he creates. I would say on those respects, Notch is done with developing the game.

See, I don't know why people keep saying that... My main way of starting a new mineshaft is digging straight down to the bedrock then jumping back up to the top on a giant stack of TNT... then setting it to blow up. 30 Mineshafts and counting without any negative effects!
You are very lucky...
See, the danger of digging straight down is that you might drop into a lake of lava. Or a cave surrounded by creepers. I always do a spiral staircase when want to get to bedrock. It may take longer but it is safer.

Also, tell me your secret of getting that much tnt!

I think what Wakikifudge meant is that you shouldn't dig straight down through the block you are standing own.

That up there, what I said, is that what you meant?

Digging down in a mining sense isn't dangerous if you aren't standing right on the block you are removing.

To quote Yahtzee (not perfectly, from memory)- "This is a game in which the ability to make cakes is a mark of considerable status."

That always bugged me. Other than that, I love the game, except for one spawn that literally plopped me smack-middle of a HUGE desert. This was in the days before maps OR compasses. After losing my fifth house in the endless sand, I loaded a new cell.
