Troll Hunter is the best "Found-Footage" movie I have ever seen.

With the release of Blair Witch Project 2, I just felt like sharing this gem of a found-footage genre movie called Troll Hunter.

I love the attention to detail of the Trolls and how accurate to how they look in the actually myth.

Big nosed, Hairy to the point they look akin to apes/monkeys, and they have tails. My favorite Trolls in this movie is the Cave Ones because they look closet to how trolls originally looked in the myth.

Also that Colossal Troll sequence was hype.

I liked the movie I did, but you have got to see [Rec] and [Rec]2. Great found footage horror movies. Ignore the third one. Not worth it.

Ditto, Troll Hunter is good ... but Rec is probably better.

Some parts of Troll Hunter I thought were great ... but I think Rec did a better job of showing the unknown quantity. Lots of blind spots, 90 degree angle stairway with sharp inclinations. Troll Hunter was a cooler concept though. I think Troll Hunter told a better story. But I think Rec is more frightening mainly due to how they used a typical suburban/inner city environment and showed how it can fuck you over. How inherently claustrophobic a simple collection of stairs, a few apartment side entrances, and an attic can be.

You know stuff was happening floors beneath the camera, above the camera, to the side of the camera ...

But it didn't do the Cloverfield copout of showing fuck all and giving people motion sickness and detailing the lives of a collection of retards. Seriously; "People need to see this! ..." Spiel? Piss off, give us a credible reason ... like selling the footage to a newspaper or tv channel ... a reason why you'd risk yourself and the lives of your friends. Money.

Rec did that. Nobody were friends, and there were obvious economic reasons why they kept filming.

It's pointless to claim that Rec was better than Troll Hunter. Those are entirely different movies, not even in the same universe in terms of story and atmosphere. Even though I like Troll Hunter far more than Rec, there's no harm in watching both.

On that note, if you liked Rec, I recommend you watch Grave Encounters. Take it from someone who watches mainly horror.

This. Troll Hunter isn't a horror movie so comparing it to [REC] is silly, I'd class it more in Fantasy. There's also a [REC] 4 but I haven't seen it yet. I'd also recommend Grave Encounter and raise you The Tunnel. It's a very slow burn but there are some really terrifying moments in it.

I liked it, but I found the ending to be quite a let-down.

I don't usually like "found footage"-genre, but Troll Hunter is a good exception to the rule. I really liked how they actually kept the camera steady unlike in other movies.

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of found footage movies but I liked Troll Hunter. I don't know how much sense comparing it to very different found footage movies makes sense. It's tone is different.

It's been a while since I saw it but didn't it have a kind of mockumentary feel to it at least in the beginning?

It was kinda cool, but I don't see what the point was in making it found footage, other than slashing the cost of production... like almost every other found footage movie. And yeah, the ending was lame.

Found footage can be clich?d to hell...but yeah, Troll Hunter was good. Rec was pretty alright, about the same level of enjoyment really. Can't agree that grave encounters was any good, it coasted cliches like my mum coasts whisky and lemonade, like, every scene of that film has to have been ripped from whatever popular horror trends looked appealing to the creators. (Play Outlast instead, it is at least a more respectful take on cliche that doesn't assume their audiences are idiots :p ) I think I'm in the minority here that quite enjoyed Cloverfield. Not as horror, instead more of an interesting ride. Still need to see Cloverfield Lane, but am aware it is a different beast altogether. The one thing about horror movies is that they can only be effective the first time, therefore it's usually pointless to rewatch. I feel the same about comedy though, repetition kills any involvement.
