Did anyone ever play Project Snowblind? It was obnoxiously short when you learned to take advantage of your powers, but from what I can remember, it was a really fun game several years ago... Agreed with Serious Sam, TF, CoD, the early Medal of Honors, the "Conflict: ()" Series, Rainbow Six's (Esp. Vegas), Splinter Cell, Hitman, Lost Planet, Syphon Filter (Mainly the first two), Conker's, CS, Quake, Doom, and UT are the only one's I think of right now...

Well, my favourite shooters are:
-Halo 1-3
-Halflife 1-2 (alle of the episodes released so far)
-Timesplitters 1-3
-Unreal Tournament (like all of them)

Id say its difficult saying what definitively makes an FPS great
How was timeplitters 3? I liked the UT series and Quake as well...

well future perfect was made by EA, aka it had taken some of the mass produced features, fortunately it had some new, pretty quirky stuff as well. The story sucked mankey balls, but all in all, i liked it. Not as memorable as TimeSplitters 2, but not a bad game.

Maybe, it has alot to go at online. It has like 15 modes, a deascent number of levels, and the mapmaker is pretty good for an console game. I've played both the ps2 and og xbox version, not a big difference there. You played timesplitters 2? they have alot in common.

But to be honest i don't know.

Mm... Well, honestly I'm trying to find a new (hopefully original) FPS on the 360... I thought I could turn to Timesplitters for that, and with 15 modes of online play, looks like that's a safe bet. ANy other suggestions?

I think what makes a good FPS varies. There are lots of elements that add to a game to make it good. But mostly for me, it needs to add a sense of uniqueness and experimenting with the formula. Also, to realize that all I want to do is kill anything I see.

As far as my favorites, I would say Half Life 2 and Portal are both up there. Quake 3 and Doom 3 both brought something fun to my experience. I would say Battlefield 2 for the PC was a good FPS for varying the multiplayer scenario for me and Battlefield 2 for the Xbox, while one of the more frustrating games I have ever played, was great because it not gave me the sense that my character did not matter, but by using the unit jumping option, it made whoever was player controlled irrelevant. You are a nameless, faceless soldier. Always. You were expendable and the player would just come back to life instantaneously as another nameless, faceless soldier. It was a different experience controlling a nobody in a story without one hero. I would also add the Time Splitters series, particularly Future Perfect, for its sense of humor and for its offline multiplayer content that was a lot of fun. It is kind of sad that I have to mark an FPS as good because it allows me to set up a game with up to 14 AIs just incase I can't/don't want to get online. I don't know why bots in multiplayer have entirely disappeared, but can we please bring them back?
If you own a ps3 in 4 days or maybe 3 if play.com is being godly you can play against bots. Killzone 2 baby!

That is reliant on me having enough income to afford Killzone 2, much less a PS3, but that is good information for me when I do start generating income again.

Goldeneye, because it had the Call of Duty 4 multiplayer pedigree of it's time. That was the game that most people played with friends and enjoyed the hell out it, I know I did!

NOLF 1&2 are the best FPS out there...
Everyone just seeks the ingredients of a perfct FPS, but they are here, in these 2 games...

I'd have to say...

Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead
F.E.A.R.
Golden Eye
Portal

I still don't understand all the fuss about Call of Duty 4, I bought it and I got bored of the game quite quickly.

fair enough, yeah you can also have bots online in games as well, im unsure 100% how this works but i have an idea. Just looked and play.com is packaging my order!! SOOOON! As for the actual great fps topic...

Duke Nukem 64 was my first ever fps and it is godly. I still love it now, im actually looking at the cartridge while i type. Team fortress is also a great fps. Cod4 is an obvious choice but i couldn't help but mention it due to the years worth of obsession it created. 21 DAYS ONLINE TWICH*

There are of course many others i love but im just going for the most important ones here.

Killzone 2, i played in the beta, albiet for only one day :( but in that day i was the 44th top player in the whole beta (okay mindless bragging over)

and i have obviously played the demo and i must say this game plays so, so well :) Its clearly a beautifull little specimen but they way it moves, the bullets impact on everything they grace, the AI of the enemy, Oh god time for the demo again...

Why do people hate Halo so much?

I played Halo 3 and thought it was fun, nothing mind blowing but still pretty well made and a good blast, although the story made me snigger.

Is it a case of too much hype that wasn't delivered on or is it a response to overbearing fanboy worship?
Both.
Fair enough. I thought it was a good old fashioned romp, but no matter what anyone says about how badass they are, pink super soaker style guns will always make me piss myself laughing!

What, in everyone's opinions, are some truly great FPS's? What makes a FPS great? Is it the weapon selection, the enemies, the flow of combat, the setting, or something else?
Half Life 2, Halo 1-3, Killzone 2, F.E.A.R. 2, Call of Duty 4, Resistance 2. To me, something just needs to be fun and engaging. All of those are fun as hell.
Same with myself, when I look for an FPS, I look for some nice graphics and some fun, fast paced multiplayer, I prefer Halo 3 more than anything else!

But on that note, I do like a nice intense round of CoD:4.
