What if I told you that the Ukrainian prosecutor in question was fired because he was *not doing enough* to investigate Hunter Biden's former boss, who was credibly accused of corruption, money laundering and other crimes?

I still think it's perfectly worth questioning Joe Biden's role in Ukraine. The conflict of interest in Joe Biden personally spearheading US policy in Ukraine while his son took a lucrative position in that country doesn't disappear. I certainly agree that makes the narrative of "Joe Biden gets rid of prosecutor to keep his son out of jail" pretty unlikely, but you can ask the question of Biden's motives without that specific conclusion.
"Pretty unlikely"? Are you freakin' kidding me? Did you read the story? Because it sure doesn't sound like it.

I did not read that specific story, Wall Street Journal is paywalled and I don't have that subscription.

But by your reaction, I think you completely misunderstood what I said. You said the prosecutor was fired for not investigating Hunter Biden's boss, and I say that makes it unlikely he was fired to keep Hunter Biden out of jail, and you kinda freaked out on me agreeing with your implication.

No, I understood completely. I take issue with your reference that it was "pretty unlikely" Biden was trying to keep his son out of jail (there's zero evidence his son was in any kind of legal jeopardy). I don't have any issue with people asking questions about what Biden was involved in with Ukraine. But I don't like it when people take this: "Biden pressures Ukraine to force prosecutors to take legal action against a corrupt government official/gas company owner" -- and turn it into this: "OMG Biden fired a prosecutor to keep his son out of jail!."

In any case, here's an excerpt from the paywalled article:

Well, then you're taking issue for stupid reasons. There are actual disagreements to hash out around here, ain't nobody got time for "we basically agree, but I don't like the way you said it, so Imma yell about it anyway."

Hey, guess what... there might be a second instance of this happening a few qeeks ago. This time it was to discredit the Mueller report. Specifically, he phoned asking the PM of Australia, Scott Morris, to dig up dirt on a well known Leftie called Andrew Peacock, who partially initiated the Mueller investigation. https://youtu.be/xCOLfT02A2g

Wait, did I say well known Leftie? Trump must be mistaken, as Andrew Peacock used to lead the same party as Scott Morrison, the conservative party of Australia. I'm sure Trump didn't Andrew O'Neal it.

Anyway, same alledged situation and he had allegedly put it in the same classified place. Also, if you saw any of Morrisons visit last week to the US, it's quite clear that he got something in return

Yeah, 14-year-old-girl-meeting-Bieber-level giddy. It was sickening to behold.

Trump has apparently also requested the UK investigate stuff relating to the Mueller report - no doubt particularly whilst Boris Johnson is PM and seemingly as obsequious as can be.

I'd like to that you for saying "requested". The internet is really high on the words "pressured", "pressed", and "pushed", as though "hey, can you guys, like, talk to my attorney general?" "Yeah, sure, why not." is a conversation pressed up against a wall with a knife at their throat.

According to CNN [https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/30/politics/trump-mueller-barr-australia/index.html]:

Trump also suggested at the time there was a high probability he would raise the matter with then-UK Prime Minister Theresa May during their meeting in June, although it remains unclear if he did.

So the Trump/Johnson comedy duo probably didn't assemble for that particular conversation.

To "press" or "push" may be valid, as it would mean to strongly argue for something without necessarily any coercion. Pressure is different - to me it implicitly suggests threat or force, although Australia and the UK are probably much harder to pressure than Ukraine.

The USA can of course still use sticks and carrots against UK & Aus of course, but it's not useful to claim so without evidence.

Harder, yes... though the UK government's desperation for international trade agreements is noticeable and places the UK in a certain disadvantageous position. There's a reason that even meager new trade agreements with other countries are being trumpeted and shouted from the rooftops: the Conservative's claim of success in Brexit rests on the (nonsensical) idea the UK will be freer to trade with the rest of the world.

It looks like fox news is using this as another Clinton email scandal in hopes of smearing a Democratic candidate.

I wished the Dems will grow up and pick someone other than Biden. I dont think that will actually happen, way to many Dems have already thrown their hat behind Biden. So, hopefully, this will force the issue. Biden is a bad candidate

I know this is wrong, but I do hope this "controversy" will make Biden drop out of the race. Fox News will not shut up about this for months, and they will make most of the people think the Biden family are corrupt even though theres no such proof. If he drops out, then it will be a smooth sail for the next top 3 candidates.

Is this sarcasm?
The leftie MSM seem to be far too up Biden's butt and are deliberately trying to smear other candidates, or giving them less time to debate. I seemed to remember the same thing happening with Hillary, so I see this as a clear indication that this is NOT an actual race at the moment. Biden has been chosen to go next. If he is out, then there isn't an incentive for the MSMs to do this, leading to a smoother debate (maybe. They will probably throw their weight behind one candidate and treat the others like cancer again. But that happen to Trump. He was dismissed by the right MSMs, treated like cancer, and then the right MSM backed him and treated everyone else in those debate like shit.)

OT: Also, Trump is thinking about putting tariffs on Australia if we don't do the investigation he wants.

So.

Trump calls on Ukraine and China to investigate Biden [https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2019/oct/03/trump-news-today-live-impeachment-updates-ukraine-bernie-sanders-latest?page=with:block-5d960da68f081108db9c1a4c#block-5d960da68f081108db9c1a4c]

Trump was asked what he thought Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskiy - who Trump was recorded pressuring to investigate the Bidens - should do.

"If they were honest about it, they would start a major investigation into the Bidens," Trump said when asked what he wanted Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky to do.

"I would say President Zelenskiy, if it was me, I would start an investigation into the Bidens."

Trump then discussed his trade war with China, before adding:

"China should start an investigation into the Bidens because what happened in China is just about as bad as what happened in Ukraine."

Trump did not explain what he meant by 'what happened in China'. Again: there is no evidence of any wrongdoing by the Bidens.

Trump was then asked if he had requested President Xi of China to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden.

"I haven't but it's certainly something we can start thinking about," Trump said.
Ok, to recap.

Trump is making stuff up, ignoring that even GOP senators asked for action with the Ukraine Prosecutor [https://www.axios.com/republicans-ukraine-reform-prosecutors-office-biden-11988d59-49e1-4e07-9b92-596575b9e68d.html], and during this whole mess... he continues to ask foreign governments for aid in investigating his political rival.

Honestly, what will it take for people to blink the crust out of their eyes and realize that, Holy Shit, you can't DO THIS AS PRESIDENT?!

"You can't do this as president" hasn't stopped him previously. He clearly got away with this stuff in 2016 and got away with it. He's doing it again because no one will stop him

Oh, I know that. I'm near sure that after he passes (of natural causes as I hope everyone does, no matter how I feel about them), they'll look at his brain and be amazed of how he was able to function as much as he did. There is something wrong with the man.

But I mean his followers. Those who are not blatant liars or nationalists. Those who still believe this is nothing more than a witch hunt.

He admitted it. Full stop. Why is there even an inquiry anymore. It's like a drug dealer saying "yeah, I asked a confidant to intimidate a witness. I plan to ask others to intimidate more. THIS IS A MADE UP WITCH HUNT STAGED BY CORRUPT COPS AGAINST AN HONEST BUSINESS MAN".

... And for people reading the news going "I wonder what those cops have against that poor man?"

This is a fun reality show. Next year is going to be full of twists and turns.
