so i am going back to boarding school in 2 weeks and I have a desktop computer that I bought but myself with money from working this summer but they took it away and said that i can have it if i get straight A's even though I al ready get A's and B's

because the computer and the whole box is sitting in the living room Its easy access and the box the computer came in is inside a larger box that contained the keyboard and other things I bought so my plan was to take my old desktop tower put in there and and take it up my parents probably wouldnt notice the weight different because there isnt much of one but do you think they might open the box even if I taped it up does that seem suspicious and because the new tower I got is compact I would easy be able to put it into one also i still plan on getting straight A's but I just dont think its right for them to take my computer so I dont want anybody telling me not to do it because I am but ways to improve the plan are welcome

also I know they really dont pay attention because i have snuck the computer out to use it a few times and they said they would drive the whole box up to me once I got straight A's but do you think there is a chance they might open the box

You'd probably best forget about it for now and focus on your studies. With any luck, in a few months Google will have pulled their collective finger out far enough for you to move the entire computer assembly with the aid of a small delivery drone. Little-known fact: people seldom look up and they almost never look for drones.

I think you're better off making a rope out of your bed sheets, taking the computer upstairs, then lowering it out of a window (using sheet-rope, obv.) and lashing it to the bottom of the car with bungie cord. A brick weighs about the same as a desktop, if that helps. OFC they might be pretty wound up if they travel all the way to your school to deliver a breeze block (which is actually not the same as a brick).
This plan is far too simple. Instead, I reckon the OP should actually transplant the components from his new computer into his old case. Then he'll be able to take what the parents think is the old PC.... BUT IT'S ACTUALLY THE NEW ONE!

Actually, that's also too simple. Orchestrate a break-in, and 'steal' both your old and new PCs. Anonymously pretend to be a drug addict, and ransom your old PC to your parents. Use the proceeds to pay for Fedex to deliver your new PC to your school under an assumed name. Break into the school records and create a new student with the assumed name so the PC can be delivered to you. This plan is goddamn foolproof[footnote]Results may vary. Plan is not actually footproof and may go horribly wrong in a variety of ways[/footnote]

-------------------

Seriously though, OP, I have no idea what your family is like so if you think it's worth trying, go for it. If it isn't then don't.

Do bear in mind that if you do take it then you're completely responsible for it. I doubt school insurance would cover it getting damaged or stolen for example. And even if you are careful, consider that your peers might not be - all it takes is one spilled drink and you've lost a few hundred quid's worth of hardware.

Or you could just study and try to get straight A's. Is computer time really worth sacrificing your grades over? You can't just do an hour or two of homework every day until you get your quarterly/midterm grades?

What if you need your computer for the studies? ;)
Just leverage this if it's really a huge problem.

(Wo)Man up. It is your property, and most importantly, it's important for your studies to have a working computer.
Tell your parents that your old computer died and you'll be taking the new one, and expect the A's in the mail.

All that sneaking around will only make your parents distrust you more. If you want to be treated like an adult, act like one.

This one million times over! Worked in a department store for a short while, people would come up to me and ask "where's the gardening equipment?", to which I would reply "over there, under the gigantic 30 feet sign that says "gardening", suspended from the roof". God, people annoy me sometimes.

Sorry for off-topic, just wanted to say that.

F**k me, I thought that might've just been where I worked - like, something in the water or something! O.O

It was three feet to their right and a metre above their heads whenever they asked me. They always walked right next to it before asking me.

OT: Just be serious and matter-of-fact. Tell 'em you need the computer for your studies. Then actually use it for your studies, or you'll do poorly in school and possibly hate yourself for it later.

No, believe me, they are all that blind. Doesn't matter where they're from, how rich they are, or how smart they are, they will forever be absolutely blind.

I've had episodes where I'm actually holding whatever it is they're asking for, so all I have to do is hand it to them. It's bizarre... I'm still working in retail (supermarket), and it's pretty much the same thing. People wander back and forth looking for something, passing it like 3 times, then asking me for help to find it. How they manage to miss the ENTIRE section of bread is beyond me, though.
