Jokes aside, I actually have to say something relevant that isn't crap.

What's wrong with just telling the kids "We need to check if you've got any weapons?"
That's absolutely fucking hilarious... brilliant! XD

On a more or less serious note... Hear that horrible sound?

That's several metric tonnes of shit hitting an industrial sized fan!!

They are gonna get crucified over this... I can see that they only meant to put the child at ease and I can't help but wonder at the actual frequency of occurrences of "enhanced pat downs".

I was pretty terrified of American security going to the States for the first time post 9/11 in February but I couldn't get over how professional and courteous they were.

And I'm a greasy foreign type with facial hair!!

I understand that they have to have procedures to deal with the eventuality of searching children, but I was never actually patted down on my way through US airspace- that happened once in Dublin, quickly and with nothing inappropriate.

Looks like they just genuinely want to be able to put children at ease rather than make them associate the pat down with a game that could theoretically make them more vulnerable to sex predators.
I don't think anyone's questioning intent, just what the results will be.

Keep in mind also that the TSA agents performing the patdowns are uncomfortable doing them in the first place, and they take a LOT of abuse during the day for carrying them out. I was pulled out for a patdown several years ago when I forgot to take some things out of my pockets before going through (and I was pretty nervous as it was my first time flying post-9/11, so I likely looked shifty to boot), and it was quick and non-intrusive, but it was also several years ago; times have changed.

The TSA's behavior is easily explained by a well-known psychological phenomenon:

Bunch of monkeys.

Bah, who even needs terrorists anymore? The TSA seems to be doing quite a fine job of it without their help. Mission friggen accomplished.

Yeah, okay, let's just tell the kids that they're checking them for bombs because some terrorist might kidnap a child and plant explosives on him. THAT'S the right way to go about it...
Yeah, unfortunately, the Human race is just SO damn messed up... that that is not impossible.

It's hard to read the thread. The sweaty paranoia is steaming up the forum. Calling these pat downs games is clearly just a way to make the child a bit less uncomfortable about the process. TSA workers probably have a shitty enough job anyway, I couldn't stand to do it. Now they have to put up with clingy, overbearing, obsessively paranoid parents calling them a nonce every time they have to search one of the brats. These days you can't sneeze in the vague direction of a kid without someone calling the police.

I know I've repeated the word a lot but when did we as a society get so paranoid?

Am I stupid for not getting why all this shitstorm about the TSA seems to have sprouted up from nowhere within the past week or so? Bear in mind I'm not American and have no interest in the workings of said country.
Are you stupid for wondering why the majority of Americans barely batted an eye when they were forced to remove their shoes for airport security, and have their private phone calls and emails tapped during the Bush administration, but now there's a sudden outcry over airport full-body scans and pat-downs during the Obama administration?

No, you're not stupid at all [http://exiledonline.com/tsastroturf-the-washington-lobbyists-and-koch-funded-libertarians-behind-the-tsa-scandal/].

Do they not realize that's exactly what a child molester would say?

Did that not even cross their minds? At all??

This is really just one more thing on the list of reasons why I need to move.
Same here.... mind if I join you?

I understand that it's wrong to call it a game, but why they cant just say: "We need to check that you arent in possession of any items that may cause problems during the flight. This is just a procedure, thats done to everyone". Do you people think that will traumatize children and make them think society expects them to be terrorists in the future?

The security procedures are for everyones safety. How can it cause harm to kids if its done in a correct manner?

See I heard about this airport assclown but assumed that there was a big debacle going on before he cried rape in a US airport. turns out his pointless acting up has started an all-consuming human rights issues...what a douche.

just fyi, i'm not claiming the TSA is perfectly in the right to do what they do, but he made a way bigger deal out of it than he needed to. so well down Johnny Fuckhead, you've started shit that's gonna be everywhere for months. bravo on being a national inconveniance.

Because clearly children are the ones planning on blowing up an airplane. I know that profiling is bad and all that, but seriously...at least that have a bit of common sense behind it.

Going through airport security without being subject to a search is not a right. It's not about "freedom" or anything as contrived as that. It's simple as this; an airline is a private service that you are paying to use. The minute you step into that airport, you're consenting to do things their way. Period. You're not entitled to special treatment.

Don't like the new pat-down regulations? Go through the body scanner instead. Don't like that either? Don't fly. If it's really that important to you, you'll find another way to get to your destination.

take a train.

It's not a violation of freedoms because people aren't REQUIRED to fly, and that's why no one is throwing much of a fit about it.

I personally think it's all for show. There are always ways around security, just how much do they want to bother the law abiding citizens before they're satisfied with themselves?

It feels kind of like DRM, hahah.

Yet another reason not to fly.

I wonder what it will take for Americans as a whole to just stop flying alltogether. The airlines will have to do something about the security if all of America's travellers use other means to get around, all citing excessive 'security' as the reasoning behind it.

While I disagree with this, your all wearing quite big tin foil hats, it's airport security, if you don't want security who make sure to protect you, the citizen, your free to drive. These standerds are to protect da people, not to hurt da people. Yar.
See that's just it. We're giving up our right to privacy for a false sense of security. That TSA agent isn't going to prevent the next attack. None of this security will.

What we need to do is simply refuse to fly. All of us, as a nation, refuse to fly. Our demands will be simple, that we be treated as human beings instead of as terrorists. The security is absurd and it doesn't work.
Go figure your 911th post involves airport security...too soon?
Anyway, I just want to cheer you on, because if you manage to convince people to not fly then more power to you.

The standards are known to be ineffective. They are there to make the public FEEL safe, not be safe. They are afraid to put in place the type of security that would actually MAKE people safer (and infringe on their personal space less, take less time, etc)
Oh yes? And what security practices what make them safer?
