Turning 18 and you (An angsty Australian kids question for you)

The only thing that changed was that I started buying games from Steam and the likes.

Not at all a big deal. I turned 18 in September and went to a few clubs, and it was okay. It's probably not a big deal for me as alcohol seems pretty crappy as a drug. I've tried cannabis and it's just so much better, but I haven't had that in 6 months because of all the hassle it takes to acquire.

unless your absolutly dying to get yourself some booze or go to a club...then no, its really not a big deal

now..when you get some money..and independance..THATS when the fun starts (the money thing mostly)

Right now I have a nice amount of income and it's awesome, so much better than any kind of state I can get into at a club chugging booze.

I think many people received that same feeling at whichever age before they were 13 when they realized that they could lie about their age for site registration and realized that the government of 'Merica wouldn't drag them out of their homes and put them to death, with guns. Same feeling probably, except you might feel more clever.

My 18th birthday was spent in-front of the PS3 like every other day... Didn't TRULY start living until I moved out of home for University/College and hit the clubs with friends... (It's more fun with friends)

But yeah, you don't really gain much but a shred of respect from the friends of your parents, as you're "technically" classed as an adult and because of that you're mysteriously able to hold a coherent conversation...

Even though you're a teenager for another 2 years...

Actually, turning 18 made a lot of things banal.

The thrill of hard liquor and soft drugs before my 18th was that I wasn't legally allowed to do them. When you're 18, nobody cares. In fact, you're suddenly responsible. For everything.

Enjoy the 18-21 years, though. After that, you'll suddenly realise that you are sloooooooooooowly crawling towards the 30 mark.

Yeah, enjoy that existential crisis.

Well, I'm 'murican and I was living in Washington DC working when I turned 21. I was staying in an apartment complex basically populated by 20-somethings like myself and I got completely smashed. My roommates got together and bought me a handle of Maker's Mark bourbon whiskey (good stuff) and I ended up just drinking that as the night went. Ended up having a huge party that involved most of the apartment complex and I woke up the next morning with a massive hangover and an empty bottle of whiskey. I look back on that experience fondly.

But other than that, hitting the "adult" age is no big deal. I drink socially on the weekends but other than that just work. Work hard, play hard is my mantra.

So I turned 18 today, which is like the 'manhood starting' age here (21 in 'merica) and everyone is making a big deal about it. Now don't get me wrong, I love being able to buy my own alcohol and go to clubs and such, but is it really that big a deal? I mean, are there any major maturity events that happen in my body around this time? Am I being a little *****? Thoughts?

Also, what was your just turned 18/21 experience like? Was it bitchen?

My 18th birthday was on a monday, I ended up going out drinking anyway so it wasn't too bad. I turned 18 before any of my friends so I got to celebrate everyone's 18th with them.

Other than that it's not a big deal, the most important thing is that 18 is one of the last 'big birthdays' you're a grown up now so you'll start noticing you'll care less about your 19th or your 23rd.

The only unusual thing that happened to me during my 18th year was that I voted for mayor. That's really it. I don't see why it's a huge deal.

Well.. 18 is the age where you can start fucking about with your own house, credit cards, cigarettes, etc.

The only thing that happens at 21 is that you can buy booze.
