Turns out I have a good reason for being bad at Halo Reach

I've had Halo Reach since it came out back in September and have been playing it off and on since then. Recently I decided to come back and play after hearing all the hype about the defiant map pack and watching a few episodes of Fails of the Week over at Rooster Teeth. I inevitably ran into the entire reason I left the game, for some reason no matter how long I played I never seemed to get much better and mostly finished each game with a negative Kill/Death ratio. I just assumed that I wasn't all the great at the game until I notcied one idiot spinning around and shooting randomly on Big Team Slayer Paradiso in the middle of the match. I noticed he was spinning a lot faster than I could turn and that's when I realized what the problem was, I never knew the game had a turn speed option in the controls section and when I went to check mine it was set to 2 (Slow). After turning it up to 8 I sudddenly found I could beat people in DMR fights and could actually kill someone in close quaters (ever get beat down when YOU have the shotgun? Yeah it was that bad). Already I'm starting to get a much better kill ratio in my games and can finally get into the more serious gametypes. It's a funny story so I though I'd post it here and see if anyone else has had something similar happen to then with either Halo or another game.

I hardly ever mess with sensitivity, since by the time I remember it I've well since adapted to the default one.

It does mean the difference between ragequit and dominating with friends when we decide to go splitscreen.

Pretty much the first thing I do in any fps is try and get the same sensitivity as I have in Half life 2/Tf2/Left 4 dead. Which usually doesn't end up that well, but in those games, my aim is pretty damn good.

Sensitivity is huge for FPS players, since the faster you aim, the more often you win. I usually start off playing at 1 higher than the default and then increase it every time I get used to the new speed.

My sensitivity is always at 10 on every game I play. Its imperative that I change it from the start.

I have a friend who loves FPS's and whenever he starts a match he turns the sensitivity up as high as it will go no matter what game he's playing. I however perform worse with the sensitivity up high.

Happened to me in Modern Warfare, when I noticed the option, fiddled with it and realised I could get more kills in MP that way.

Now, in every FPS, I normally put it up to 8 or 9. 10 is too insanely fast for me, though.

Trust me I found that out the hard way, you have no idea how hard it is to win in close quarters when the other guy can turn around 5 seconds before your can. I couldn't kill people with the shotgun! The Halo shotgun!!

I'm pretty much constantly tweaking with my mouse sensitivity in multiplayer games, trying to find that golden spot where it's fast enough I can spin in a fluid movement, but with just enough resistance to allow for fine tuning on awkward headshots. Sensitivity will really mess you up if you don't have it just right, so I'm glad you discovered this and have correspondingly improved. :)

I can deal with the default sensitivity in any game except COD... Then i have to turn it up to 7 (for more luck than judgement i think)

I have a reason for being shit at Crysis 2 MP... I love sliding too much XD

My sensitivity is usually 6 in Reach, and about the same in other games. I remember I used to have it at 10 in Halo 2. Not sure how or when I went from 10 to 6 though...

But thats on consoles, on the PC I usually up the sensitivity a bit above the default. Since the mouse can turn pretty quickly no matter what.

Also, *cough* [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Halo-Fans].

I am surprised that your default was set to 2, usually 5 is the default.

Mice are also nice because most gaming mice let you change the DPI on the fly with buttons on the mouse to give you the flexibility you need.

Halo is the only game I ever mess with the sensitivity, I usually put it up one or two levels above default and that gets my speed just right.

I prefer a higher sensitivity, but I think it should be limited, Example: CoD MW 2, you aren't limited in moving distance, so with sensitivity 10 (which half the people use) you react way too quickly resulting in accidental kills.

In all fairness camping is almost required to some degree in halo, who here hasn't waited at the top of the sword base lift with the shotgun or sword?

I like to keep my setting on default. I find that having the sensitivity up high is annoying for me. If turning it up helps you, then good for you.

I could never play like that, i've tried, but i cannot aim for shit cause all i do is spin around.. Usually play at medium settings, some games i have to turn a wee bit up, some a wee bit down..
