I got around ~60 channels and hardly anything on them -.- (I got around 30 extra channels for free for 3 months or something when I changed provider ). Problem in Sweden is that were about 3-4month behind in all series or movies then america. but overall I think tv is pretty great when its something to see

I watch friends with friends. How about that Mr. amusing pun.

However onto the point i would agree with you and then proceed to poke holes in parts of your arguements.

Simply because someone is better than us at something doesnt mean they arnt crap - case and point yahtzee. Yahtzee could never make a game anywhere near as good as those he reviews, doesnt mean we cant laugh at them because they arnt any good. By your logic only professional game designers and singers should be able to laugh at other peoples failures in their respective fields. I laugh at these people because although better than me they think they are amazing. The fact the over estimate themselves makes it amusing when they fail.

Also i like the way you forgot the fiction genre. I expect the riposte of "Why watch a man shoot aliens when you could go and .... oh wait". being able to lose yourself in an entertaining fiction or humorous tail is a nice thing.

However i think that you phrased your statement badly but have a VERY good point. Reality TV is what your talking about. Or shows that do nothing different than take an everyday situation and exaggerate it a bit (desperate house wives). Reality TV is the lowest form of entertainment i think. Watching idiots interact isnt very stimulating, its just stupid. Watching a hopefull man being torn down is just sad.

i watch tv to laugh not at people humiliating themselves but to watch shows that make me laugh without someone getting a punch in the stiffy but nowadays people watch tv to null their minds by watching people who can't sing so i guess that their needs to be more shows with actual point like watching discovery

It was originally Radio you could see.
Now the Internet (As well as the invention known as the Computer) is tv you can use to break copyright laws.

As for your topic: It serves a purpose and it is pointless.
Depends on who you are and what you use it for.

And yes, there are Roasts outside of Sweden.

You named two shows that I really love - Seinfeld and Friends. I do not watch either of those in order for myself to either 1) seem less petty, or 2)as a compromise instead of making real friends. I watch those shows because they are funny and they are entertaining. That's the point of TV. I would definitely say that TV is the least artistic of the various mediums of entertainment available to us, but I'd definitely say that there's a point to it.

Apart from entertainment, it is by far the most useful source for learning about current news and/or events (depending on what news network you watch, of course). Things like the History and Discovery channels have some of the most interesting programming on television and have taught me countless things that I probably wouldn't have learned otherwise. Likewise, the Comedy Network (I live in Canada, so I don't have Comedy Central) has The Simpsons, South Park, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report, the only 4 shows that I have been consistently watching for years, and I would murder anyone who would try and take those away from me.

Only if there is something I have been meaning to watch for a long time out of personal interest, like the recent Monty Python documentary. Also Have I Got News For You was on my weekly list, but there are rumours going around that the production company that makes the show (Hat Trick Productions) looks like its heading down the plughole, so unless another company steps in to take over, it looks like the best political satire panel show ever *opinion* is dead. Other than that, my TV is used for playing games/watching movies/DVDs

I don't really have anything to ad to the discussion, but I'd like to let the OP know his OP was both hilarious and well written. OP, you OP was both hilarious and well written.

Also, true.

Well thanks, and yeah, I'm starting to consider rewriting my somewhat over-raging statement.

Sorry, hope I didn't insult you.

The only thing I watch on TV now is Curb Your Enthusiasm. That's it. Everything else, I find online with shorter commercials, and on my own time.

God I love Hulu

The discovery channel (a few years a ago), the history channel and Scifi channel. This is my argument for why TV can be valid.

Uh, I watch it for entertainment.

Blah blah blah there's no point to it, fuck off. You're on a video game site, that's gotta be way more pointless than watching tv.
