TV Reccomendation

Hey guys, i was wondering what series are out there that would be a good fit for me. Hopefully you guys can assist in this. Heres the list of what im currently following;

The Big Bang Theory
How i met your mother
Supernatural
Criminal Minds
Grimm

I suppose i really enjoy TBBT and HIMYM because of watching Friends when i was growing up. And why i can even find characters like Ted Mosby (HIMYM) even tolerable. And the TBBT has the geek culture aspect going for it so i can relate to it better.

As for Criminal Minds, again had older family members watched L&O SVU and i suppose that influenced my taste for cops shows. Otherwise logically speaking i shouldnt enjoy them that much. Finally this series has more of a focus on the characters themselves than other cop shows that i have seen.

Finally for Supernatural and Grimm, their main draw was the ghost stories and fairy tales so i was drawn to that.

On a final note i tend to avoid series that were axed and new series since they may be terminated early. Only reason i started watching Grimm was simply i had nothing else. I had previous recommendation for Firefly, Dexter, and Game of Thrones. But something bad happen to Firefly (cancellation?), Im not really digging Dexter vigilantism?(only had some quick wordings from people), and TV series set during Medieval times really have to be offering more for me.

I would recommend anyone to watch the BBC's version of Sherlock. Excellent writing, clever mysteries, and an overly cocky Englishman, being constantly right.

It's not just medieval, it's a fantasy setting (albeit low). The real draw is the moral ambiguity and great characters. It's dark and gritty but not in a bad way, plus being HBO (and faithful to the books) they're not afraid to kill off characters so there's that element two.

Not a big fan of TBBT. It's everything I hate about sitcoms. Laugh tracks, lazy multi-cam setups, obvious setups and punchlines, and characters that wait for laughs. Plus the geek culture stuff feels very superficial and phony. There so much more I could complain about...sorry, just had to get that off my chest. That said, I don't have a problem with people that enjoy that show.

I agree with what the others have listed. Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Sherlock are fine shows. As for the others, I haven't seen them.

Arrested Development is one of the best comedies ever made. The episodes are so dense with jokes that multiple views are almost required. There's so many layers. Some jokes call back to previous episodes and some even reference future episodes. The show was canceled early. However the writers were able to wrap up the show decently enough; so don't let the cancellation stop you from enjoying this wonderful series.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a lot like Seinfeld except more vulgar and raunchy. I'm guessing you've seen Seinfeld, if you haven't...what's wrong with you. It's a classic. Watch it if you haven't.

I recommend Community. Be aware that it is in the middle of it's third season and currently on hiatus. This is probably the best comedy on Thursdays. It has plenty of meta-humor and layered jokes. The show has some of the most well developed characters in a comedy, it helps that the cast is perfect. The characters change and have actual arcs. It's a show that doesn't stay stagnant and constantly mixes things up; never satisfied with the status quo. Community is one of the view shows/movies that get parodies right. So many times parodies are just doing what a specific movie does except in their universe (Family Guy, Robot Chicken, the Epic/Date/Scary movies). In Community parodies are used to examine characters and reflect how they feel.

I also recommend Louie. It's a bit different than other comedies. It often feels (and looks) like a documentary on a fictionalized version of the comedian Louie C.K. The show is a dark satirical comedy. It deals with a lot of stuff that's supposed depressing but it's hilarious because it's relatable, honest, and articulate; never whiny.

If your into cartoons I recommend Regular Show. The quickest way to describe it is Harold and Kumar the Animated Series, where Harold is a blue jay named Mordecai and Kumar is a raccoon named Rigby. Most episodes start out mundane and then slowly builds up into a surreal adventure. Kinda like how Harold and Kumar go to White Castle starts with a trip to White Castle and ends with the duo riding a cheetah.

Even though it's not really similar to the shows you mentioned, if you're not watching Breaking Bad, you're missing out on what is probably one of the best shows to ever air on TV.

I'm going to throw in Burn Notice because everyone should try that.
Ignore Fiona's accent in the Pilot though, it changes (thank God).

Also worth a shot are Archer, Ugly Amercains and Sons of Anarchy.

Breaking bad
The wire
Sons of Anarchy
And perhaps '24', currently watching the 4th season and its pretty damn good, now that these annoying females who get kidnapped all the damn time are out of the way.

The Wire, i've just started watching and the whole "One of the best tv shows ever made" thing is spot on, its fantastic. And already mentioned Breacking Bad, Arrested Development and i'd also recommend Boardwalk Empire, it starts off slow but still keeps you interested.

I'd also say you should give Terra Nova a watch, i really enjoyed it, some of the actors are a bit bland but the storyline is fairly interesting.

Also, My Little Pony, just because everyone should at least give it a try.

MISFITS! Not the band the TV series, it's fucking awesome.

There aren't many of them but they are great.

A group of English kids (not American actors pretending, actual English accents!) get given powers and decide to become super hero's. It's very dark and funny (funny mainly applies to the first 2 seasons).

Watch the first two episodes and if you don't love it get checked for mental problems.

Breaking Bad is quite simply the best show on television right now for me.

Always Sunny in Philadelphia is just pure quality entertainment.

Community is one of the smartest comedies about and should appeal to you compared to your other tests. Also for the love of god, watch it LEGALLY. It's on the verge of cancellation and none of us can stand another Arrested Development scenario.

The UK (original) version of Being Human just started series 4 and it's a great series, one of my favourite British shows. It's the perfect mix of comedy and hard drama. And fantasy.

Fringe. More people need to watch Fringe since it's probably in danger of cancellation. Think of it like a science fiction counterpart to Supernatural. Or, if you will, The X-Files for the 21st Century (you should also get The X-Files on DVD).

It has a tightly plotted mytharc, cool (if sometimes quite soft) science, plenty of gruesomeness that you sometimes wonder how they get away with. Oh and Walter Bishop. Seriously, John Noble's performance as Walter is worth it alone.

It's currently on it's fourth season (which still isn't on in the UK dammit!) so you'll need to catch up unfortunately. But it's worth it.

If you do watch Breaking Bad, be sure to watch an entire season or so before giving up on it. It starts very slow, but holy shit, when it gains speed, hold onto your butt. There are a few scenes that had millions of people literally shaking in their seats.

To be perfectly honest though, looking at your favorite shows, I dont think you would enjoy it. Although, who knows? I believe you can watch all episodes online legally if you live in the US.

I watched around the first 5 episodes and found it pretty enjoyable. I prefer to have some more slapstick and less drama in a TV series. Drama is meh for the most part for me. Its great in moderation (my idea of moderation is probably lower than most peoples) otherwise is a drag for me. Ill check this out again soon.

Sons of Anarchy-the best show on tv (opinion)
Walking Dead-It's not just about zombies. It's about the people who survive(d) the apocalypse.

Forgot about the Walking Dead. I watch that show the moment it Air. Second season is meh.
