TV series you always have to rewatch

For me, that's going to have to be Burn Notice. Even though that just ended its amazing going back though the beginning showing someone else the whole thing for the first time. Another show for me, or shows rather, would have to be the shows in the DC Animated Universe, Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, Batman Beyond and Justice League Unlimited. Fantastic shows.

Blackadder Goes Forth. I love all the Blackadder series, but turning him into a sarcastic yet ultimately non villainous version was a smart move. That and the jokes were by far the funniest.

Seems uncalled for. Also, if a harmless TV show makes you want to violently murder everyone around you, it may not be the show that's the problem.

How could I forget Blackaddar? I watch that pretty frequently as well, especially 'Goes Forth.'

Its just a colorful illustration of how angry that show's characters make me. Half of them are flat out unlikable, Gus appears to be suffering from Battered Wife Syndrome, and the main character is about two inches away from a high functioning sociopath.

But that's just how I'm reading the show. Obviously my opinion is abnormal.

I feel like I'm going to be completely alone on this one. But I watch at least the first two seasons (and the start of season three) of The OC every year since I've had it on DVD (which would have been when it was released on DVD). I find it intensely soothing.

Parks and Rec has tons of re-watch value for me as well.

Penn & Teller's Bullshit is probably the series I've rewatched the most, I've probably watched it through in it's entirety at least once a year since I first discovered it.

Black Books and Blackadder are both fairly frequently watched too and occasionally Father Ted will creep in. My girlfriend and I will often have little marathons where we watch an entire series in one sitting, which isn't too strenuous with Blackadder since it's only a couple of episodes in each one.

I also like watching reruns of QI and Mythbusters, but that usually just because I run across them on Youtube or something. It's not so much of an occasion. South Park is probably in the same boat there, although if I see an episode I usually end up watching the entire season anyway.

I always like to rewatch these shows:

Sherlock: I love the team of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. They play off each other so well, and Mark Gatiss makes a very good Mycroft.

Twin peaks: Kyle Maclachlan is amazing as Dale Cooper, and the fact that it had David Lynch not only as the writer and creator, but also had him star as Dales' superior, Gordon Cole, made it an instant favourite in my book.

Doctor Who (The Jon Pertwee era, specifically the ones that have UNIT play a big role in the story. I love Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart)

Law & Order: Criminal intent (The Goren and Eames episodes only. Vincent D'Onofrio is the reason I started watching it, and he didn't disappoint)

Friends: Its a bit of fluff, and gives me a heady rush of nostalgia. I especially love Chandler and Phoebe.

Blackadder. My dad and I often watch it together, along with classic Doctor Who. Blackadder goes forth is one of the finest written and acted comedies out there, and the finale always sends a shiver down my spine.

The very early seasons of South Park: I am talking about seasons 1-5 here,I managed to stumble across it on a Friday night when I was 10 years old and my dad let me stay up, and I loved it. I enjoy the later seasons as well, but seasons 1-5 will always take a special place in my heart.

There are many others as well, such as Black books, Frasier, QI, Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy, Courage the cowardly dog, Mythbusters and Penn and Tellers: Bullshit!, but the ones I described are the ones I rewatch the most.

for me it's How I Met Your Mother. It might not be the best show on TV but it got me invested enough in the characters and their little world to be able to watch it again and again. Also, since you have to wait like a year for a season to finish, I tend to rewatch the old episodes everytime there's a new season just to get myself up to speed again.

Matt Smith's turn as the Doctor is my favourite because, honestly, he's my first Doctor. I think you all know the axiom about your first Doctor being your personal best. That's after I busted my ass trying to access and watch the Pertwee, McCoy, Eccleston and Tennant eras in no particular order. I watch my saved Season 11 episodes over and over and over.

Otherwise, I tend to pop in the second or third episodes of "Jekyll", another Steven Moffat series, albeit one that didn't survive its first season. It's such a crying shame, as James Nesbitt's Hyde is an absolute riot. He's a grinning, childish, petulant and energetic sociopath with severe wolf pack-esque instincts in regards to Jekyll/Jackman's family, you can't help but love him for it - and he still functions as the Hyde we've all come to fear. I watch all the episodes almost back-to-back and every time I reach the last one, I can't help but feel cheated. I'd want more of this, goddamnit!

I'm also a big fan of Beast Wars. Consider that as a lasting remnant of my childhood. Clunky CG by today's standards, great scripts that were penned by people who've since made it to Marvel and DC's editorial panels, awesome voice characterizations - and Dinobot.

Dinobot is, was, and will be awesome. That's it.

There are lots of incredible TV series. Brilliant ones. But only the rare few bring us back for second, third or indefinite helpings. Especially with yet more gems being produced every year. Yet more "must watch" TV and only so much time.

So what's a series that frequently brings you back for a full go around? For me, it's Avatar: The Legend of Aang (and Korra). It's such a well done, well developed adventure, with animation that has the fluidity of western animation and the gorgeous detail and angles of Japanese animation. I've gone through this series start to finish once a year every year since 2011, and I don't intend to stop any time soon. It's amazing how many other series I go back to thinking "I'll watch this start to finish" or how many new series I try to binge to completion only to get sidetracked by other things. But Avatar seems to be the thing I never lose interest in.

The Last Airbender was not just the best animated television show I can remember, it's one of my favorite television shows ever made of any genre. It was at once moving, affecting, thought provoking, funny, and cathartic with a genuinely deep cast and interesting setting. I seriously can't sing it's praises loud enough.

Funnily enough, when I first saw it advertised (my kid watched a LOT of Nickelodeon in those days) I almost dismissed it as being trite. I have never been more wrong.

As for on topic and adding to the discussion, I'd say Scrubs is one of my must watch shows. I've watched the entire series start to finish (not including that season 9 drivel) at least 8 times at this point. There isn't a comedy series I can think of that I like more. Especially the first 4 seasons.

Dinobot is, was, and will be awesome. That's it.

I tend to rewatch Arrested Development relatively often, as the series is golden, all except for that shit of a 4th season return.

I also return to Stella occasionally, as it's only 10 episodes of wacky insanity that I LOVE.

Archer. I just never get tired of the running jokes or the inappropriate, nonsensical banter. I rewatch all the seasons I own at least twice a year, with one of those times being right before the new season starts airing.
