Are you noobs? No one mentioned Game of Thrones yet?
I don't get all the fuzz about Game of Thrones.. to me it seems like The Lord of the Rings WITHOUT fighting.. but then again, I've only watched the first episode. Do tell if I'm wrong and it gets better.

I think this is the quickest Top 5 list I've ever made. The only debate I needed was whether I liked Mr. Show or The Wire better

1. Mr. Show with Bob and David
2. The Wire
3. Spaced
4. Mystery Science Theater 3000
5. Peep Show

Honorable Mentions:

Black Books, Twin Peaks, Freaks and Geeks, Community, Upright Citizens Brigade, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, The Mighty Boosh, Code Monkeys

Edit: OMG JEEVES AND WOOSTER FTW

Louie (Louis C.K.'s sitcom which plays out almost exactly like Seinfeld, except modern and with a main character who isn't a whiny bastard)
Dexter (You know what this is)
Breaking Bad (You know what this is)
Bored to Death (An HBO series where Jason Schwartzman plays a writer who is best friends with Zach Galifianakis and a rich Ted Dansen, and they get into some awesome hijinks)
Archer (You PROBABLY know what this is, but in case you don't, John Benjamin voices a parodical James Bond-style character who has a habit of either getting himself into a shitload of trouble or getting himself out of trouble, always being hilarious and badass along the way)

My top five and reasons.

1. The Wire, its the best, great characters, great acting, great writing and engrossing plotlines. The only flaw was those random news guys in season 5.
2. The Singing Detective, technically a miniseries but it's so good. Juxtaposing a hate-filled impotent man with both his cynical power fantasies and his paranoid delusions as well as the details of his history showing why he's so messed up. I really reccomend this to anyone who likes weird or original TV.
3. Twin Peaks, brilliant cross between a supernatural cop show and stylised soap opera. It's weird, beautiful and smart. Shame about the ending.
4. I, Claudius, this is the show Rome wants to be. Some of the best actors of the 20th century showing all the power politics and the sheer brutality of the roman empire. It's full of sex and gore but never gratuitously unlike the HBO version.
5. The Prisoner, not everyone likes it and alot of people hate it but I love the Prisoner. This is what happens when an intelligent man with no real traing in scriptwriting or directing but with a very strong artistic vision is allowed a free reign and an unlimited budget. It's weird and convoluted but never dull, always filled with bizarrre senarios and insane imagery it may not always work but it's an artistic statement and I have to respect that.

Other great shows include; Edge of Darkness, Sherlock, Wallander, Firefly and Lost.

I can't really pick a top 5 'cause I enjoy such a variety, but my favourites include...

Everwood: The script and the acting in this series is incredible. The comedy and tragedy are well balanced (both in and of themselves and against one another), and it manages to avoid being ridiculous. The series touches upon real life and the nature of real people. I can't recommend this enough. :)

House: Hugh Laurie makes this series! ;) It's been a while since I watched an episode, but I remember it being well written, tense, funny (at times), and intriguing.

Desperate Housewives: This would be a guilty pleasure... Sadly, the drama in series 6 and 7 is a little too extreme, but series 1 - 5 are clever.

Moomin: I used to watch this all the time as a kid! Now I have a few of the DVDs. It's extremely quirky, and the voices grate on the ears, but the concept, characters, and the stories are incredibly charming.

Animals of Farthing Wood: Another TV series I used to watch as a kid, now on DVD. This one's more dark (save for the third series). It's obviously an adaptation of the books by Colin Dann, and thus follows a good story with well composed characters. The arty style of series 1 is pretty nice to watch, too. :)

Also very fond of The Simpsons, American Dad, Black Books, Black Adder, and Charmed

4. Fringe
5. Futurama.

Yeah, Firefly is good. Damn good. I'll never forgive Fox for messing it up.
