American Idol, X Factor, 's Got Talent and any other show with some 'panel of judges'.

Complete load of crap that's polluting broadcasting and I believe is directly responsiable for shit like Firefly or Camelot getting cancelled.

I'm probably going to be shot for this but:

The Simpsons - (what season are we up to now?)
Supernatural - (didn't they deal with the apocalypse already?)
Family Guy - (same stuff, different episode. Didn't like one gag? here's another 10)
Big Bang Theory - (To be honest i never really liked it in the first place, but it's lost a lot of its original humour)
All of the major soap operas - (the bold and the beautiful especially. You could be in a coma for 10 years and not miss a damn thing)

God I hated Season 9.
You're not the only one. Zach Braff was doing an AMA on Reddit a couple of months back and apologized for Season 9.

....A few times in fact.
It just was so unneeded that it pissed me off. They could have called it anythin else. Called it a spin-off, Scrubs:Inters season 1 or somethin and it would have at least somewhat lessened the blow of givin a big fuck you to what would have been an amazin series finale in Season 8. Instead it wasn't a new spin-off series or a new series entirely, it was a continuation of the old one, season 9, with an entirely different cast of characters with none of the chemistry of the old characters and fuck all soul.

I remember watchin it and thinkin that it could maybe sorta work, then just got disappointed. Then got even more disappointed as they kept tryin to force relationships with people that really didn't work simply to try and emulate the older seasons. You can't make people care about new characters by tryin to make them like the old characters, but worse.
Total agreement here. I went on a Scrubs marathon with Netflix and once I got to season 9, I got to like, 4 episodes in before I decided that I just didn't give a CRAP.

Every other season before was brilliant. It was silly, and I even cared about the characters and loved them by the end. And the last episode of season 8 wrapped everything up SO perfectly,

but then I find season 9 and there are new characters; half of them, I actually find annoying as hell, the other half, I just don't give a shit about, I'm much more interested in the old characters, in their relationships, in how their families are doing, in the freaking JANITOR, but nope, it all revolved around a bunch of newbies that I didn't give a crap about.

I hung on out of desperation until Elliot made a re-appearance in an episode, but I just couldn't deal with season 9, it was unneeded and completely NOT what Scrubs was supposed to be.

From what I have read it was suppose to be a spinoff but the network was scared and tried to squeeze as much out of the name as they could.

I think The Simpsons is one that has gone on for far too long.

That and The Young and the Restless (or however the title is). 8000+ episodes is really absurd.

That's great, you got ONE good thing out of how many seasons?

These shows do not exist in a vacume, other broadcasters will see how "well" they are bringing in the ratings and seek to emulate. Diverting resources away from intellectually stimulating stuff rather than: girls scream, guy walks on stage, girls scream some more, judges give a prelude, girls scream again, guy starts singing, girls scream mid-song, guy continues singing, guy hits a note well, girls scream, guy finishes song, girls scream, judges make comments, one says something nice, girls scream, one says something snarky, girls scream, guy gets the votes he needs, girls scream, guy walks off stage, girls scream.

Definitely this one. After the whole apocalypse arc everything else just seemed insignificant and pointless. Also didn't the writers originally want to end Supernatural with season 5? Everything up until the last 5 seconds of season 5's finale seemed like they were wrapping everything up, especially with the prophet's monologue at the end.

Honorable mentions go to 24...sort of.
If you asked during Season 6 I probably would have said yes, but then season 7 came out and I really enjoyed it. I'll have to wait until I finish season 8 to pass judgement.

Fucking Two and a Half Men. The three least likable leads in TV history, and every joke is about what terrible people they are.
Ah knew I was forgetting one though for different reasons. Personally I think they should have just stopped once Charlie Sheen left.

They do serve as pretty great jumpin off points for people with talent but absolutely no connections.

Are they 90% crap? Sure. American Idol has probably only produced a couple actual singers that stuck around as mainstream singers, but the others do get their name out and they do continue makin music, even if they don't become mega celebrties.

Plus I'm a sucker for people chasin dreams.

I'm tempted to say FiM, but there's only been 3 seasons so far. Still, things haven't been the same since early Season 2 and Season 3 kinda jumped the shark, though here's to hoping they can turn it around for Season 4. It's still entertaining at this point I'd say, but something's been missing for the most part since "Lesson Zero" and it feels like they ran out of ideas at some point down the line.

Seth McFarland shows definitely qualify. He's a one-trick pony (no MLP reference intended), and his style went stale a long time ago.

Reality TV. All of it. I hate speaking in absolutes, but I cannot think of a single Reality TV show that was even remotely interesting in at least the past five years. It's probably the biggest reason I don't watch TV anymore besides a select few cartoons every once in a great while (unless it's pony season, in which case it's usually only once a week). Everything about RTV feels incredibly fake and is often reliant on very low forms of comedy or very petty drama that does not appeal to me in the slightest. It's like Flash-drawn cartoons - they can be done well, but instead it is almost always done in the cheapest way possible with very little effort or passion put into it so the producers and network can make a quick buck.

EDIT: According to some of the above comments, some soap operas have gone on to have nearly 5-digit episode counts. Yikes; talk about eye candy! Is it even humanly possible to actually watch the whole series of one of those within the span of a year - scratch that, 5 years?

Simpsons, and Stargate.

Mind you, apparently the writers of Stargate were repeatedly told "This'll be the last season, wrap everything up", only for just one more season to be announced, so they had to cobble together some more stuff out of nothing.

Then they were told there'd be another season, don't wrap everything up, and there wasn't.

Let's see here... These will be anime shows, by the by. It still counts...

Uhhh...Naruto. It really didn't appeal to me. Plus, there are no ninjas, too much filler, and whatever plot there ever was got...way too stretched out.

Pokemon. I don't think that needs an explanation.

Star Driver. What...the fuck, mate?

Anime that references H.P. Lovecraft (of which there is more than one) really needs to stop. If you're going to reference one of the great early horror story writers, by god make it horror and worth seeing. Even Lovecrafts racist views don't merit that kind of insult.

Oh, and Cartoon Network. Let's blow them out of the water and let somebody else try.

I agree comletly. Eric Kripke, the creator of Supernatural, wanted the show to run for 5 seasons. He had it planed out. He knew what was going to happen all the way up to the end of season 5 and that was where it was ment to end. But then the network ordered another season because the show was so popular. He resigned as show runner and became an Executive producer for a season then left all together and now they seem to just be doing the same thing over and over just not anywhere near as good.

Supernatural, but not for the reasons stated. I find that the first seasons were the boys hunting monsters every episode, but later on down the line loads of the episodes are dealing with whatever the storyline is at the time, and talking about emotions (SO FUCKING MUCH) that they just need to can it and start hunting wendigos again!
And quite a few of the episodes are borrowing heavily from the X Files. That needs to stop.
Oh and Doctor Who, the new series. It's just terrible. I've forgotten the name of the new writer, but he shouldn't be let on to do it full time. It's just embarrassing now.

This thread makes me glad Breaking Bad bad is ending this year, even if it is a bittersweet feeling. Like a holiday romance it will stay lovely in the memory and won't ever have a chance to get stale.

How I Met Your Mother is really stretching it now. They ran out of new things seasons ago, and at least to the point I've seen, a little into season 8, aside from a couple of cryptic references, we still have no idea who the mother is.
