UltraViolet - was a British mini series involving a different take on vampires.
Holy crap, someone who appreciates good British sci-fi... and it was one of Idris Elba's first starring roles.

As with all things, they should've made it longer as there was so much potential in it... Thank god, the American version never got past production of an unaired pilot...

Anyway... my choices are:

ReGenesis - though it kinda deteriorates towards the later series, the overarching story of the first season was pretty damned good (hard science-y stuff, mostly microbiology, which is quite accessible, but pretty solid for the most part).

And, as already mentioned, Castle...

Better Off Ted- Sitcom that revolves around a single father business executive, his love interest, his boss, and his two scientist friends/lackeys. Similar humor to Arrested Development (and I licked BoT more). Only lasted two seasons.
Easily the most hilarious show I've ever seen, I'll never forget that one episode where they replaced all the motion sensors with light sensors that can't detect black people, making it impossible for them to do anything, just thinking about it now has me chuckling. Also, Phil and Lem has the best bromance ever.

Anyway, I never hear people talk about The Unit, a pretty decent show following the lives of a Delta Force group and their wives, hitting off a nice balance between manly military action for the guys and some proper drama for the women. It's also got about five seasons so there's a fair amount to enjoy.

Everybody needs to start watching Suits. It's a witty drama about lawyers with probably the best cast of actors in television right now. Most of the cast were previously Broadway stars which doesn't always transfer to camera well, but with these people, it did. They're so fucking good at acting. And they have great writers backing them up, too.

I'm also very fond of Better Off Ted (Ellen Degeneres' wife is a hilarious, and very hot bombshell) and Community. Oh, and Spartacus is good if you liked 300 or Gladiator. Spartacus: Blood and Sand (First Season) has John Hannah, which is awesome.

Others have mentioned Castle which I'm a naysayer of. The only likeable scenes from the show are of Castle, his mother, and his daughter. Those characters/cast members have great chemistry. But the rest is just a terribly cliche cop show with the exact same jokes every episode. And I can't say it enough of how horrible an actress the woman who plays Detective Beckett is. She is really hot, though. She definitely has that going for her. Sorry for shitting on the show if you do like it.

The first two seasons of Misfits are great. Well written, and funny. The third season is pretty good too, but I missed Nathan.

Orange is the new black made me feel for the characters. It can make you both laugh and cry. I felt bad after watching it. It's a drama, with one of the best female casts and black humor.

Hannibal is a brilliant show too. It starts off slow, but towards the end of the first season I was on the edge of my seat.

The tick- can't go wrong with 6 episodes
& I've been meaning to watch misfits for ages
I'm sure Hannibal is good but i've never been into Silence of the Lambs and such so... not for me

As a brit should say if it's available on 4oD i've probably seen it.

That said one i forgot to mention was Nathan Barley
I'm not sure who to do it justice but after you watch it you'll walk around fro the rest of the day wondering how this is the first time you've heard of it.

Sons of Anarchy...just... watch it.. it will grab you and never let go

well i should add a bit more to it.. it has Charlie Hunnam has lead, with alot of well known actors aswell Ron Pearlman for one.

But its about a biker.. and his child is born.. and how will he .. an outlaw, a biker, a killer make it, so that his newly born son will fit into this world of this, or will he make a new future for him.. but.. holy shit you go through all emotions in this series, that is so far on 5 seasons.. amazing imo :) even got my mother and grandmother to watch the entire series and they love it :p keep asking for new episodes xD
I second this, great show, can't wait for the next season, although... Personally, by the end of season 5 I find there to be no likeable characters left to root for, actually at this point Clay is my favourite character and I hope Donal Logue kicks ass next season. We will see what happens.

Most obscure i can think of (and can recommend) would be Real Humans aka Äkta människor, a swedish science fiction series.
It's about a near future in wich there are customer-level human-looking Robots named HuBots, wich are sold as personal assistants, housecleaners, cheap labor force, prostitutes...you name it.
What i really like about the series is that it takes the viewpoint of various characters that portray the various implications of what the world would be like if we'd have relatively cheap but advanced lifelike robots around. Like there is a character who feels like he's being "replaced" at both work and home by robots (because he is) and joins an anti-HuBot Movement, an old man who has a very personal attachment to his Hubot even after it severely malfunctions, a band of weird, renegade "free" Hubots who are roaming the countyside and break into houses in order to recharge themselves, and a family that slowly gets acclimated to thier own new Hubot (that happens to be a former "free" Hubot who was stolen and got overwritten to be sold under the table). It more or less has something for everyone, and is very compelling in handling the topic by not becoming one-sided.

Also the makeup of the Hubot actors is wonderfully "uncanny valley" freaky, wich gets a plus from me.

I diagree. Community is great and all, but the best show you're not watching is 30 Rock. I am constantly baffled by the gulf between awesomeness and ratings for that show.

Nathan Barley is reasonably well-known, though perhaps not outside of the UK - it's a Charlie Brooker show, after all, co-written with Chris Morris. Some pretty big comedy names right there.

The Tick (2001 TV series).

If you had seen and love the animated counterpart then you will love the Tick all over again! Seriously it's such an underrated show (only had like six episodes) and that where the voice actor of Brock from The Venture Bros was from!
Seconding this so fucking hard.
We watched the whole thing on Crackle and it's fucking genius. Ahead of it's time, and Burton is picture perfect.

Anyone who hasn't seen The Wire, needs to see The Wire. It's literally the best TV show ever made (objectively, by several polls) and ran for 5 seasons on HBO about a decade ago.

I would hope most people have heard of it (and seen it), but if you haven't, do yourself a favor. Pretty much the only downside to watching it is every other show seeming trite and shallow in comparison.
