Some of this comes from conversations I've had here, some of it comes from talking to people in real life (Which I try not to do too often, real life people scare me).
But I've seen a lot of people wander on to TvTropes, and never return again. Or at least be there for several hours until they pass out from hunger, their internet connection cuts out, or someone phones them to remind them that they should have been giving a presentation about half an hour ago (Only happened once!).

Yet it is essentially a version of wikipedia dedicated entirely to clichés, or tropes. Why is it so addictive?
And do any of you have a good way of avoiding the endless cycle of clicking that usually ensues from being linked there? Willpower apparently isn't enough.

P.S. Maybe some of you haven't been there yet. For you people, I offer this. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/randomitem.php] (Possibly NSFW, I have no idea what you'll end up with... Yay random page!)

I know it and love it. However, I've read it so much that I can escape quite easily, as I've read far too much content there.

Also: For your link to work it has to begin and end with [ link=] and [ /link] (without the spaces, obviously).

I've been there. I don't really see why it can take hours of people's lives away though. I've spent about an hour of my life there, but I don't see how it can be addictive.

Longest I was stuck there was only 7 and a half hours. Apparently that's nothing in comparison to others.

I've read so many of the articles that I no longer get trapped since I know what most of the links are gonna say. I only really dig around there anymore to find specific examples of a trope or to read the pages of new books/movies/whatever I've recently finished to see what I missed.

I go there every now and then out of pure boredom. But I never get stuck there. The longest I was there was for like 20-30 minutes because I had nothing better to do until I had to leave for work.

Yeah, I've heard of it. I've gotten lost in it once for about 2 hours. It's pretty addictive, I won't lie. I haven't even back to it since that day.

Sorry for the double post, but all he forgot was the / in the [*/url] (minus the asterisk)
Oh my mistake then, I thought I saw it and assumed that you could only do that trick with "link". *Uses amnesia ray*

I've been there for ten hours at one time max. Damn, that website is so fun to read.

One thing I've learned: No matter who we are, we will fit in a minimum of five tropes.

I know it, and I'm glad I became unaddicted. I think I basically read every article of interest to me. I still go sometimes, and I love it, but it's a dangerous gamble.

Yes, I know of it. And though, in a way, I love it for it's obscene amounts of useless knowledge, I'm also aware that it's slowly destroying my soul. At time of writing, I am still capable of escaping it's nefarious grasp.

I love it, every time I read a book, watch a movie, or play a game, one of the first things I do is check out the tropes that apply to it. It's amazing how many threads are hidden in so many different works.

I know about it, but i don't visit there often. I have managed to avoid being trapped until now.

I don't remember how I first heard about it, but I do remember that the first time I saw an article I was on that site for another three hours before I realized what happened. And I love it very much.

I go there every now and then. Not often though. I pretty much read most of the stuff I'd want to.
