Go take a look at the horror and bigotry flying all over twitter. I am completely astonished at how many people lack the self awareness to say the things that are being said on there. Bullying seems to be alive and well.

EDIT: As per request a quick explanation of what this hashtag is. It appears to be a series of tweets started by Arthur Chu, to mock the #NotYourShield tag.

Arthur Chu has been a very incendiary personality in a lot of the Gamer Gate conversations he participates in. So while this may be an attempt at being comical, it is failing Poe's law and just looks terrible. A handful of others have contributed, but the majority of post were from him.

Soon after it started, it appears to have been overrun by #gamergate posters decrying the whole thing.

also my opinion of this has shifted from disgust to indifference upon realizing that it was just a poorly executed attempt at shock comedy, which is some thing I actually like. I don't think shock comedy translates well to twitter.

Have to say I see more instances of people talking shit about the tag than the tag itself.

While most people seem to be taking the piss out of the tag the people who are using it unironically are ridiculous. It's like they can't comprehend that women and minorities can have a different opinion than them

The tweets I'm seeing are mostly from GG calling it racist and sexist. None of the tweets that use it though come across as that, that I can see. I'm not surprised that GG hasn't figured out the difference between racist criticism and criticism of ideas though.

For instance, these all follow the vein as most of the others I've found.

But on the plus side, it did lead to my discovery of #TweetLikeAGamerGater, and that has been endlessly hilarious to me.

What about the women and minorities that are using it?

Hmm yeah I just scrolled through and saw a whole bunch of people calling it racist and sexist, but I didn't actually see what caused all these claims to happen.

I think the logic is it's racist and sexist by default? But I'm not seeing how.
I noticed some people using it to insinuate that #notyourshield was nothing but white guys, which would fall under the concept of erasure I think

No, it's because they think criticizing them for their actions is the same as "erasing their voice"

https://twitter.com/moppingtruffle/status/523539262558715905

Once again, it's just the same argument it's always been about the meaning of criticism and censorship. Or as #tweetlikenotyourshield would put it: https://twitter.com/jskylerinc/status/523573908968972288

It's uncanny how they sound exactly like the parodies.

I think I've seen one so far implying that all members of #notyourshield are sock puppet accounts. The rest are implying that #notyourshield is protecting nothing but white guys.

Could you link? And even then that still looks like a (bad) criticism of straight white guys in Gamergate, rather than an attack on women and minorities.

Saying "I think you're actually a straight white guy" isn't the same as racism against minorities or misogyny.

ehh, I sympathize with GG and I'll be the first to admit GG can jump to conclusions based on a couple tweets

I love these threads that assume we just know everything about the topic or, in this case, hashtag in question, and don't actually explain any of it in a manner that's understandable for people who don't follow this shit like hawks.

Until I see evidence to the contrary, I think this hashtag is a false flag attack from the gamergate community. They're the ones with the most to gain from this.

And that my friends is how it's done.

I've always found not your shield odd, you are opposed to the anti-gamergate side from robbing you of your agency and acting like the speak for you so you side with gamergate who is now using you as literal shield. It's just weird. I don't believe "minorities" can't be on the gamergate side of the fence, but I just assumed they'd notice the irony of literally shielding gamergate from the fair criticism that they seem to be disproportionately targeting women whilst being opposed to other people like them being a shield for the anti-gamergate side.

After realizing it was made by Arthur Chu, who is a piss poor comedian at best, I get the impressions it is just a shoddy attempt at humor, and to that end I do not care. It does seems to be another case of Poe's law.

Meanwhile people still get extremely upset to gallows humor, so I guess I am sorry I brought this up since i don't think it needed anymore attention then it has already had.

I think it was just an outcry from minorities who simply wanted to state. "You don't represent me."

I believe in this case "your" is referring exclusively to the media.

All the same, a very funny observation!

So, basically, the ad hominem US vs. THEM noise is still removing any semblance of sensible debate about the very real problems brought up by either side, gotcha.
