(Search Bar Approved! - I think...)

Yeah, I know, that may seem kind of odd. A 20 year old bachelor saying he admires a franchise basically bent on exploiting the young, naive, and romance-driven brains of 13 year old females everywhere, but I have a decent reason for it!

I got to thinking, and realized just how these past years have been some of the MOST culturally self centered, greedy, and even selfish ever. Nostalgia has reached disturbingly high levels of unprecedented credibility (thanks to all the Thundercats/Transformers/Ninjas/Pirates/Vampire/Monkey/Mummy/every other old beloved franchise/theme/thing from yesteryear fans not wanting to let it go), which of course means easy money for the people in the entertainment buisness (Hence the excessive amounts of remakes/reboots/re-imaginings we see).

But we already know that, so lets not dwell on it.

The thing is, in refusing to not let go of some of the most material or superficial parts of our childhoods, were not leaving a lot of room for new things to be made for future generations of kids.

The older, more financially independant crowd rags on and on and on about some old show from the 80's, which leads to the fellows down at Hollywood or whatever to slap a bunch of expensive graphics and shallow modern humor/wit on the whole thing for easy cash. And of course, most all the "hardcore" nerds and fans (that are ironically enough the main ones RESPONSIBLE for these new, lame iterations being made in the first place) flip out when it inevitably sucks.

Except for when something like the new IRONMAN or New Incredible Hulk or Dark Knight comes out. Then they all cream themsleves over it, even though none of those particular films are any different or better than the rest of the crap out there that they complain about.

But in clinging so desperately to this stuff, were shutting out our kids from having the same kinds of experiences with franchises and movies and whatnot that WE had as children ourselves. Instead they're forced to kind of go along with all the old stuff that WE obsess over, when instead we should be making room for newer stuff for the new generations to enjoy.

Which is why I don't mind stuff like Twilight, or New Moon. No, NO, I'm not saying that I personally think it's good, but then I realize that NOT EVERYTHING IS MADE FOR ME, and I also realize that it's nice that they have something that can really excite them and make them happy, so I can let it slide.

But really, we should be a lot farther along than this. What did, say, I, for example, have to grow up with?:

Super Mario - Sonic the Hedgehog - Banjo Kazooie - Snowbaord Kids - Bomberman - Lion King - Toy Story - Dexters Laboratory - Angry Beavers - Courage the Cowardly Dog - Powerpuff Girls - Looney Tunes - the list goes on...

But when I see kids nowadays - especially my 4 and 11 year old little brothers - they don't have much of that kind of stuff to call their own. Thank GOD for the miracle that was Spongebob (back when it was good, anyways...), and even stuff like Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter (back when THOSE were good, I mean...). That was the kind of stuff that would bring us all together, and we'd have a blast!

What are they going to have to look back on when theyr'e older? High School Musical? The Disney Channel? El Tigre? The Live Action Ben 10 movie!?!?! Twilight? Goodness...

Yeah, I may not care for Twilight myself, but if it can bring joy to those who normally would not find it in these kinds of places, then great!

And honestly, complain and moan about how twilight percieves vampires as much as you want, vampires have always been kind of a silly concept. What with their capes, and blood sucking, and turning into bats, and always living in giant secluded mansions/castles and all... They really don't initially come off as much more serious than mummies, or goblins, or unicorns, at least not to me.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, maybe I'm just thinking too much for the children (in the least pedo way possible, I promise!), but that's what I'm getting from all this. WHat are ya'lls thoughts?...

Well that's nice.

I myself hate it and its entirety.

They can all go fuck themselves, but I don't worry about it too much because I know this will be over in about a year and these shitty actors will then fade from the spotlight.

Well, at least it's not because you have an Art Degree. I don't mind twilight because it serves it's exact purpose and it does it perfectly, I mean do you seriously reckon that a vampire romance is directed at anyone other than girls who are yet to know what love is really about? Cmon, lets face it, you're just mad at Stephanie Meyer because you couldn't think of how to make a bajillion dollars so damn easily.

I'm totally with you on this. I have even read the books because a girl am friends with loved it (she is 25, as am I) and wanted someone to talk to about it.

The books are well written for their target market, and given their success, clearly people enjoy them. In that, I tip my hat to them. I'm a HUGE vampire freak, so I enjoyed it to a certain degree (it's a new vampire mythos, though weak and a bit filled with holes).

If someone likes something, great for them. Like you said, not everything is made for everyone. There are people who swear that Smash Bros is one of the best things Nintendo has ever done, but to me it is the worst game I have played on any of their consoles. A constant failure of what could have been fantastic (not turning this into a rant about that, just making a point). Even with these feelings, if my friends who enjoy it are playing and having fun, great. I'm glad they are enjoying it, and I'll go play my Guitar Hero/Rock Band.

As for this, like I said, I'm a HUGE vampire freak, and there is a lot wrong with that description of vampire mythos. :D But again, not turning this into anything other than what it is.

I'd say that pretty much sums it up, really. Though no matter how well worded this may be, I can guarantee you've set yourself up for tons of flaming...like I'm about to do to myself. <_<

Regardless, I've never understood why people get so upset about these vampires just because they're different. Who said vampires HAD to sleep in coffins or get killed when in the sun? I thought vampires were just undead people who drink human blood? No one complained in The Mummy when the villain wasn't bandage wrapped. I also find it odd that the same crowd that will constantly ***** and moan about how something needs innovation suddenly can't stand it when someone changes monster lore.

Heck, it's not even a permanent change. Even if the current generation grows up and all future vampires they make sparkle in the sunlight, there is still enough people who hate them to make stories about the old vampires...now that I think about it, this strongly resembles the attitude our generation gets from old people when they talk about video games. Constant bitching and moaning because they simply don't understand it.

Now don't get me wrong, if you hate Twilight then by all means you can hate it, I just don't see the logic behind the vampire hating, is all. Now hating on Twilight for the many plot holes and generally bad writing, I can understand. (And don't get me started on those terrible movies)

I can't say I could be a fan of the series, and I find the cullenist religion even more retarded than scientology, but the only thing that really infuriates me about your post is the search bar approved! disclaimer at the top.

If it is searchbar approved, you don't need to broadcast it, for if someone tells you to use the search bar after you used it, they are trolling.

Also, why on earth would anyone think an I LOVE TWILIGHT thread wouldn't be searchbar approved? I hate twilight, those are common, but not the love.

My reason for hating it is because it is such a damn slow development in the , nothing seems to happen for ages, nothing nostalgic for me i'm afraid.

It would be decent if Bella didn't have an asthma attack every time she's within 30 feet of her love interest.

That actually annoys the hell out of me too... It's almost like the public is encouraging lazily-written fiction; so why should we even bother writing anything good? (yeah, yeah, I know, I'll go get the waambulance...)

And totally offtopic, but your name simply rocks! Three cheers for Whose Line ^_^

There might be some kind of special island out there for the near-fictional male Twilight fans, it might be situated on, or near, the same space for girls that like it as a guilty secret pleasure (you know, that aren't vapid about forcing everyone in range to know which team they're on).

You might want to pack a toothbrush.

Very true

I still think that my age group (I'm 17 next week, btw) caught the end of the "Golden Age" of Children's Entertainment in the UK

Although its a valid point, Do you really WANT your kids to get excited other things such as that. Surely they should make new age mario's and that. But the fact of the matter is... Wait I forgot... shit.
Well, as I said, if we older, "hardcore" nerds could get over this stuff and set out to make some new things, then we wouldn't have to worry as much about the old stuff being bastardized for easy money.

But that's just my opinion, I guess...

We so did eh? I'm so glad Harry Potter wrapped up juuust as I stopped reading books. That's the difference between Harry Potter and Twilight, one was a phenomenon, the other is just a craze.
