It's not very decent, no matter how you spin it. I read it the first time, thought it was nice, then read it again. My mistake was reading it more than once.

The characters aren't very good, you can't relate to them, especially Bella, the one who is supposed to be human. Especially Bella, actually. She is so paper-thin and unrealistic. It makes me cringe how things like this can be allowed to live and then turned into a franchise.

I have personally gone out on an inquisition to submit the idea of Edward Cullen and the rest of his 'family' of vampires to the will of The Masquerade.

I don't know about that. Twilight and Harry Potter are, pardon the pun, in the same book in my opinion. As a matter of fact, I dislike Harry Potter much more than my dislike of Twilight, though for admittedly personal and someone questionable reasons.

On the one hand, I think the early '90s were the golden age of children's TV. On the other hand, I was born in 1984 so I don't know how much of that is nostalgia.

I really wish that everyone in the world with an opinion on Twilight would take a collective chill pill. I hate Twilight, but not because I think that it's a bad series, but because it started probably the most heated and uninteresting debate the world has ever known. I'm always up for a good argument, but it's always the same, dull, shouting match with Twilight. Give it a rest.

Yeah I was recently thinking about this too ( not thinking about twilight but the rest of it, I agree with you for the most part.

And as far as twilight goes I actually just saw it for the first time today (the rifftrax version) It was as bad as I thought it would be but the rifftrax was really funny.

I was bored so i changed a few words, To reflect my Personal view.

This isn't meant to insult you. But if it comes across that way. I apologize. I'm just putting my views into the exact same context you did with yours. So its easy to compare the two

Twilight, Why i hate it

Yeah, I know, that may seem kind of usual. A 29 year old bachelor saying he loathes a franchise basically bent on exploiting the young, naive, and romance-driven brains of 13 year old females everywhere, but I have a decent reason for it!

I got to thinking, and realized just how these past years have been some of the MOST culturally Awesome, Generous, and even most unselfish ever. Nostalgia has reached disturbingly awesome high levels of unprecedented credibility (thanks to all the Thundercats/Transformers/Ninjas/Pirates/Vampire/Monkey/Mummy/every other old beloved franchise/theme/thing from yesteryear fans having good reasons for not wanting to let it go), which of course means easy money for the people in the entertainment business, Good for them (Hence the excessive amounts of remakes/reboots/re-imaginings we see).

But we already know that, so lets not dwell on it.

The thing is, in refusing to not let go of some of the most material or superficial parts of our childhoods, were not leaving a lot of room for new things to be made for future generations of kids. This Serves them right.

The older, more financially independent crowd rags on and on and on about some old show from the 80's, which leads to the fellows down at Hollywood or whatever to slap a bunch of expensive graphics and shallow modern humor/wit on the whole thing for easy cash. And of course, most all the "hardcore" nerds and fans (that are ironically enough the main ones RESPONSIBLE for these new, lame iterations being made in the first place) flip out when it inevitably sucks. I couldn't rewrite this. So i got rid of it.

Except for when something like the new IRONMAN or New Incredible Hulk or Dark Knight comes out. Then we all cream ourselves over it, even though none of those particular films are any different they are still better than the rest of the crap out there we must complain about.

But in clinging so desperately to this stuff, we're allowing our kids to have the same kinds of experiences with franchises and movies and whatnot that WE had as children ourselves. Instead of being forced to kind of go along with all the new stuff that WE obsess hatefully over, when instead we should be making room for MORE of the older stuff for the new generations to enjoy, like we did.

Which is why I HATE stuff like Twilight, or New Moon. YES, YES, I'm saying that I personally think it's Crap, but then I realize that NOT EVERYTHING IS MADE FOR ME, Its also made for everybody else. SO ITS EVEN WORSE. and I also realize that it's nice that they have something that can really excite them and make them happy, But I'm a hateful, Evil person. Really.

But really, we should be even farther back than this. What did, say, I, for example, have to grow up with?:

Super Mario - Sonic the Hedgehog - Banjo Kazooie - Snowbaord Kids - Bomberman - Lion King - Toy Story - Dexters Laboratory - Angry Beavers - Courage the Cowardly Dog - Powerpuff Girls - Looney Tunes - the list goes on...

But when I see kids nowadays - especially my Nonexistent little brothers - they don't have much of that kind of stuff to call their own. Thank GOD for the miracle that was Spongebob (back when it was good, anyways...), and even stuff like Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter (back when THOSE were good, I mean...). That was the kind of stuff that would bring us all together, and we'd have a blast!

What are they going to have to look back on when theyr'e older? High School Musical? The Disney Channel? El Tigre? The Live Action Ben 10 movie!?!?! Twilight? Goodness...

Yeah, I DO NOT care for Twilight myself, but if it can bring joy to those who normally would not find it in these kinds of places, then I HATE IT EVEN MORE!

And honestly, complain and moan about how twilight percieves vampires as much as you want,I'll be over there. Doing the same. vampires have never really been kind of a silly concept. What with their Old cultural references , and Cewl blood sucking, and turning into bats, and always living in giant secluded mansions/castles and all... They really do initially come off as much more serious than mummies, or goblins, or unicorns, at least to me.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, maybe I'm just thinking too much for the children (in the mostleast pedo way possible, I promise!), but that's what I'm getting from all this. WHat are ya'lls thoughts?...

I have to admit. I've really impressed myself here.

I saw so many good books in my school library recently, and it's always full to the brim of kids hiding from the playground. Hardly anyone had touched them.

The Twilight books however had been destroyed via reading (I saw no burns or any attempt at destroying it purposefully), mainly because I am quite sure that the people who enjoy this shite (for it is shite, I tried reading it once) either are unsure on the proper procedure when it comes to operating a book, or give it some sort of literary leprosy.

To the OP: Man if I ever need to cross a bridge in Scandinavia, I'm taking you, because you are trollbait.

OT: I hate the nostalgia because I never liked all that crap the first time around. I blame Robot Chicken for making that stuff seem cool again. But there are still plenty of mostly original ideas that are being overshadowed by all the Twilight hype, e.g. The Road. This is merely the law of diminishing returns as applied to Interview with the Vampire, " " Lost Boys, " " Near Dark...it goes back all the way to the original Dracula. Vampire movies will always get made because, much like the Jonas Bros., the bloodsuckers make girls' 'ginies tingle. It just irks me how they all get progressively worse.

There's quite a bit of difference between Harry Potter and Twilight. While I didn't personally like the whole story of Harry Potter (there were bits that were very good), I could at least recognize that it was well written. It had interesting characters doing interesting things. Twilight is a badly written series (and yes, I have read it).

My issues with the twilight series stem from the fact that it's a carefully crafted marketing machine, precision targeted to prey on the fantasies of impressionable tween girls while glorifying unhealthy and emotionally abusive relationships, and negative role models.

It is the Mary-sue fantasy of a teenager with low self esteem, and we shouldn't be feeding that crap to young girls.

Fair enough, I can grant that Harry Potter is slightly better written that Twilight. Really with both I can't see how they have become so popular, but then as we have determined, I am not the target market for those books. They obviously hit their target market dead on.

And also, for fairness, I have only skimmed slightly some of the Harry Potter books. Like I said, my dislike is questionable as it relates to working in a book store and putting up with the hype. I skimmed on of the books, didn't see how it was popular as the hype was making it.

Each to his own opinion. From a guy who actually read the series, instead of hearing about then bitching because they know they can't be a girls dream like Edward. The books were mediocre. The characters were flat as hell minus Jacob. Bella is horrible role-model. The books are about a teenage girl choosing between Bestiality and Necrophilia. Edward makes no sense. He is the epitome of beauty, yet he is an 107 year old virgin? Oh, and also, Breaking Dawn broke som much Canon, I can't take the book seriously.

It would be decent if Bella didn't have an asthma attack every time she's within 30 feet of her love interest.
Or 2 miles away from him.
