Guess it is hit or miss wherever you are. I do hear from many in Europe how they enjoy high speed without caps. They must be the lucky ones.
Either case, higher speeds won't deter internet caps. It just means you will reach your cap faster. Until I hear a legitimate reason and not just lame profiteering excuses from the big ISP's, I will stand on the position caps are completely unnecessary in this day and age.

I agree that they are unnecesary, but since they are so normal here, people seem to just assume that there is a reason for them. I imagine that some Europeans get good unlimited intenet, but in the north of England, caps seem to be a fact of life for anyone who doesn't get their internet as part of a TV package, and even then it is not certain.

Ask any ISP that imposes caps, and they will most likely give you this excuse: 'Our servers and other facilities are limited and unable to handle heavy traffic. Hence we impose caps to help reduce and/or support heavy traffic.'
This is pure bullshit. When you consider the technology that is already in place, and what you are being charged monthly to access what is otherwise a free resource, the ISP's make more than enough to improve their services to where caps are completely unnecessary. They would rather budget most of that money to feed the CEO's their bonus paychecks.

For the record, my average of around 2mb/s is perfectly fine with me, thank you.

Are you saying Kilobytes or Kilobits? If that is how many Kilobytes you get a second in a download your speed is actually 640 Kilobits a second. (8 bits make up a byte...)

My speed is about 10 Megabits a second. I download about 1.5 Megabytes a second... It is probably faster cause I share bandwidth with lots of other things in the house. 3 other computers, an Xbox. and an iPad...

I think the fastest steam goes is like 25MB/s... Not sure. never reached it before....

OT: I hope they do eventually make super hi speed connections available at a decent price and without caps. Our local internet here is capped at something stupid like 12mbps (megabit NOT bytes mind you) and that's the highest speed for residential customers.
