Initially amusing, but then it devolved into an annoying ball of memes.
So...pretty much what I was expecting.

there's no way they'll complete this within a reasonable amount of time. i mean, there's anything up to 100,000 people controlling this and they've somehow blundered their way through to around half way.

it won't end well, i'd be surprised if they complete it.

They're already most of the way through the game. They managed to get through all the caves so far, the rocket hideout, Silphco, Sabrina's gym and they somehow managed to capture a Zapdos, they have a level 60 some odd pidgeot and when they get to the elite four theyre going to lose hundreds of times but their pokemon will inevitably become a high enough level to steamroll through. I think the major contributors to this have been Reddit and Tumblr users directing the masses.

I find the memes kind of amusing myself. Sure they're stupid and kind of random, but it's funny that some people have made a narrative out of this chaotic mess.

I've been putting it on in the background sporadically since the second or third day it was online. Shit is hilarious and the memes are out of fucking control XD

I should probably expand on my point, to be more clear.
It's not the content of the memes. Stupid can be fun and funny, and "occasional stupid fun keeps the heart young".
It's the repetition. Everyone shouting "HEXIL FOSSIL!" in unison is funny for like, the first collective 10 minutes, but becomes less funny each time it's said until it's just annoying.

On the other hand, I had the unfortunate fate to have folks who CONSTANTLY KEEP UPDATING ME ABOUT THAT BLOODY STREAM.
One after another. To the point where I had to politely request a moratorium on the messages about Twitch Plays Pokemon.

I don't know how anyone can watch it for more than a few mins. Its kinda interesting to see where they are up to but they are just grinding and during battles they keep pressing items all the time. I'll look at it every day or so to see where they are and some people are tweeting about anything funny that happens, but watching it constantly is so boring when they get stuck in a patch of grass cos they need to use surf.

It's funny at times, but it gets annoying with the stress it puts on Twitch for other streamers and their chats since Twitch Plays Pokemon keeps breaking the dang thing. >.<

I thought they kicked TPP onto its own server to avoid that problem.

I love how we can tell a story out of anything. Seriously, this is as close to pure chaos as you can get, and somehow we've compiled a narrative out of it, with heroes and character arcs and everything. From a literary standpoint, this is utterly fascinating.

They did after Twitch Plays Pokemon broke Twitch about 5 times, after that they moved it onto it's own server, but other people streaming during that time caused other streams to suffer.

Maybe it's the whiskey, but what is this? I'm so confused. Why am I watching someone walk into a wall for 10 minutes and shouting Democracy and Anarchy like it's the 1700s?

BECAUSE THE HOLY HELIX DEMANDS IT! [http://churchofthehelixchoir.bandcamp.com/track/praise-the-helix]
Seriously, though, to be honest it's because several thousand people decided to try to control a single character of Pokemon, and you can type in Twitch Chat a command, and after a thirty second lag, you'll see it get imputed. It's spawned a fountain of memes.

I'm not a 100% sure what it is, from what I can gather it's 100's of people all playing the same Pokemon game at the same time, is that correct? How does it work, if 100 people type want to go left and another 100 want to go right how does the game know what to do? It's so confusing and unlike Karma9308 above me I don't have any whisky to blame it on.
Commands are served at a first come, first serve base. 100 left with 100 right combined, they keep going left and right repeatedly. All commands are inputted at once.

It hits two things I have no interest in... crowd mentality in a project, and Pokemon... so, I wouldn't understand half the struggle just to find out what's going on. So, other than dealing with the ridiculous number of posts about it on Imgur, it hasn't affected me.

It's positively fascinating. Just the fact that they managed to get that far and catch a freking Zapgos is amazing!

I personally think it's really dumb, and not very funny. I'm not sure what's not clicking, but I just don't find it amusing or entertaining, and the constant barrage of memes and macro images that came out of it I find even worse. I mean yeah, I don't really like TPP, but I can just ignore it and not talk about it.

The macros are the ones that pop up constantly on a lot of the sites I frequent, and I will confess I think they're much more grating to me than the actual event.

If people like TPP, that's fine, but I just don't get the appeal at all.

I think it's funny, and interesting just as most of the other folks here feel about it. Yet, the memes are starting to get a little overused at this point. By all means I have no problems with memes in general, but there's a point where you just have to say, "alright guys, we get it."
