Forbes reports Michael Robert Solomon, 30, and Benjamin Ryan Teeter, 22, have both been charged by the U.S. Department of Justice with “conspiring and attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization (Hamas) and firearms violations.” Prosecutors say that Solomon and Teeter met with an undercover FBI informant who they believed to be a high-ranking member of Hamas, and two agreed to send five “untraceable” suppressors for $1,800.

Hamas would not be my first guess of group that the Boogaloo Boys would be dealing with.

The Boogaloo Boys will be like any such organisation. A substantial number of them will have very flexible morals, ideals, and relationship with the law. Plus, they may be very US-focused: what goes on in other countries might not interest many members at all and they couldn't care less what Hamas is and does.

Whoa. That is not a garden variety charge, and Hamas are not a garden variety group to be caught in bed with.

Honestly, I don't think these clowns could even tell you what country Hamas is associated with. As said earlier in the thread, people like this are generally incurious about the world around them. And to a lot of nationalists and nativists, everything beyond the US borders is an unknowable expanse marked on the map as, "Here there be monsters."

Technically they didn't try to sell weapons to Hamas, they tried to sell suppressors.

And $1800 is a really good deal for 5 suppressors. A quality suppressor usually costs more than $500. Hell, some suppressors would be $1800 for 1. Were they even making any money on this deal?

Everything about this is stupid.

I know, right? If they're going to prison for trying to sell suppressors, they should also go to prison for horrible business sense.

Easy. The US might already be selling guns to far right groups in Europe, but they definitely aren’t selling them to Hamas, so if they’re gonna sting some terrorists, they’re gonna sting them for selling weapons to Hamas, a terrorist organization the US does not currently have ties to.

This isn't as rare a behaviour as it might seem, from these groups.

When it comes to the CIA arming insurgents, you can never tell who they’ll give money to. Hamas would not be the first time the CIA switched sides. Just look at all the literal Leninist groups they funded against Iran.

Say what else you will about the CIA, they are equal opportunity employers for despots.

I think out that every time a bridge collapses or road repairs take 6 months.

There's an arterial bridge in my town that's *scheduled* to take 18 months.
