My friends are important to me and a hug with a close friend is great, especially as we have all moved away so don't get to see each other very often. Hell, when I was at uni I'd known my flatmates for 3 months but when we were back together in January there were a lot of reunion hugs.

now, one day a few years ago a friend mentioned it was their birthday coming up and said to me 'what you going to give me for my birthday' to which I replied 'I'll give you a hug'. his response was 'no thanks, I'm not gay' which I thought was stupid. I just this minute told that story to my mum and she pretty much agreed with my mates response.

what do you think? is one friend hugging another gay? or is it just friendly? Joey and Chandler do it all the time!
I think this is just their insecurity/homophobia talking. Reunion hugs are totally ok.

Unless if you didn't follow the rules in that video [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUdWApwbudQ], then it might come off as kinda gay.

I hugged my best friend when he left for Afghanistan.

Anyone with the gall to call that gay better be ready for a fight.

Shit if hugging your friends makes you gay then I'm as crooked as they come. Oh wait, no I'm not.

I only do guy hugs when it's been a long time, or we're being tools and we're pretending to be emotional about something, you know mucking around. I'd say I definitely hug guys less than most other guys at my school, but that's just my personal choice *shrugs*

The fuck?
You can hug a man without being gay. Its called a bromance!
There is a reason why every bro gives each other a manhug. To show respect and to show that they are the true bros. In fact most bros I know give manhugs as a greeting, including me.

Of course it's not gay.
Two girls hugging isn't seen as them being gay, so why are two guys hugging seen as gay?
Double standards, the same reason women can't rape men...<.<

OT: Nope, not gay... if they were naked and making out with raging erections you might have a case, but it's still arguable...

I give all my friends bear hugs. The only difference gender makes is how much of a bear hug. Girls get the black-bear-waking-up-from-hibernation hug. Guys, though? Guys get the grizzly.

Remember: it's not a real hug until something cracks.

Hugging isn't gay. God no. Brolove my friend.

But, if that hug then leads to a make out session in the middle of a club where your and his girl friend can clearly see it. Then that my friend... may be gay.

It's not like I've done it.

Unless you were clenching his ass with your free hand and sticking your tongue down his throat...I'm pretty sure just hugging isn't gay. If someone see's something as simple as a hug as being gay, then they are either insecure with their own sexuality (could be gay but is in denial) or they are extremely homophobic.

Yep...I'll embrace my sudo-homosexuality by admiring the chiselled abs of Brad Pitt in Fight Club. Two men hugging is totally gay, but i don't mean in the actual, real world sense in that it means i prefer the intimacy of men over women. Hell no. I mean the 11-year-old sense where it means anything i disagree with is gay. By the way, Gaddafi? Totally. Gay.

It's only gay if your gay. I hate using the 'comfortable' cliche, but it applies in this situation. If you are comfortable within yourself, you are unlikely to consider a hug with a mate gay. I don't make regular habit of it personally because it's not really my style, but a hug between guys is definately not madatorily gay.

I would say no but experience has taught me differently...
A friend I met in elementary school hugged me and I was labelled as gay until post graduation. Seriously, he moved away THE SAME YEAR and to this day I still hear about it. It's not pleasant situation to be in. Small towns where everyone knows each other suck.

It doesn't mean that they are gay, but try telling that to people who will "call it as they see it" until they die.
Got a girlfriend? Just lying to yourself.
Never been in a relationship? In the closet.
Most of your friends are girls? FABULOUS!!
Most of your friends are guys? Must be gay. There are no women around.

Small towns suck. The only way to get rid of a label is to leave your entire home life behind and move to a bigger city .
