Lol guy hugging for me is only awkward when they ARE gay. Though I must say in that case he was also and EX so screw this. Bro hug = NOT GAY.

It's not "gay" in that you don't need to be gay to do it (I know lots of straight guys who are fond of hugs, whether with males or females), but if some people are uncomfortable with it then don't hug them.

There is a similar thing here in France about kissing. Females greet each other by kissing, same thing when it's a male and a female. But when it's two males they shake hands. Except in some contexts.
For instance a pub I used to go to. There everyone kissed, male or female, and pretty much none of them were gay. Some companies also kiss rather than shake hands. In the end it's more of a "tradition" for them so people do it, but in other contexts if a guy held his hand and you (another guy) kissed him instead people would find it weird.

Similarly some people think that outside of family and childhood friends hugging is weird. Well just keep that in mind and don't hug them, I guess. But don't let them make you ashamed of the fact you like hugging, though.

As a bisexual i don't think it's gay at all, me and my friends usually give bro hugs to each other all the time, but I really don't think anything is gay, if both guys are straight and 100% sure in their sexuality it isn't gay even if they suck each others dicks, because no matter what you do with your own sex if both of you aren't attracted to the other one it can't be gay cos' none of you really have feelings for each other on a sexual level. But that's my opinion.

You only think it's gay if you're insecure about your sexuality.

Remind your friend of that.

It's far from gay. It's just good ol' bromance. Hell, among my circles of friends hugging is how we say "Hi" and "Goodbye" even to people we don't know too well. It's pretty normal.

Nah, it's normal man. If you are in the southern region of America, I would suggest against it, but gay? No.

There are different kind of hugs, a bro to bro hug is the one when you first take each others hand, most likely your right hand, then pull each other together and then slap the other ones back with your free hand, that´s a bro hug. that´s definitely not gay. But when you go for the more classic hug, the one you give for example your mother, It can become rather creepy xD imo.

But it really doesn't matter what kind off hug you give a bro/manly friend. it all boils down to how homophobic you are.

Its not gay at all, and thinking that does stiffles male expression. I have had mates in the past ive hugged, the way they been done has been quite different. Gay is much more then sex, and a hug is much less then sex (not even comparable to me).

I wish I had more friends that I hugged on a regular basis (guy or gal)

Bromance is gay.

Hugging is not necessarily gay.

Remember, you can hold a hug with dudes as long as you want, but you gotta finish with the "bro pat."

I don't find it gay though, I suppose it's an opinion thing.
Some people are very uncomfortable with any kind of physical affection.

I see it as kinda feminine.

Most guys I know just do brofists. Whenever they hug they do it ironically, for the most part.

I mean, it just depends on who you hang out with. You can't "convince" people that hugging between guys isn't gay.

EDIT: Okay. Just to clear shit up. I'm assuming (as in, pretty sure) that OP's friend is substituting "gay" for "feminine". It's a stupid, yeah, but come on. So let's cut the lesbian wisecracks, alright?

Nah, it means they're friends. What is with some guys and their childish inability to show affection? Two girls hug and nobody bats an eye, people just attribute it to being emotional blah blah blah, two guys hug, they have to shout disclaimers and act "manly". Makes em seem insecure. It's a turn off is what it is. Unless one of the dudes started making out with the other, hugging means they're probably good friends.

Edit: Oopsie, looks like it posted this twice.
