Okay, I just recently joined The Escapist not to long ago and I've noticed an epidemic. Why can't people spell correctly? Is it so hard to ask for proper grammar so everyone can understand what you are trying to say instead of everyone reading you poor excuse for a sentence? If you are unable to spell then the computer will tell you how to spell a word correctly. All you do is type a word and if its incorrect right click on it and find the correct spelling for it. Now I know there will be a lot of people who "hate" and will just type a bunch of junk, but oh well.

Topic at hand: What is your opinion on this situation? Should it be okay for people to misspell words or should they go back to grade school because they are unable to structure proper words?

Hate it as well. I have strong Grammar Nazi tendencies. And you know the one thing better than correcting the spelling of the ordinary folk? Correcting the grammar of fellow Nazis. Look back to the beginning of the post and capitalise that 'i'.

On topic, does anyone else despise it when the idiots just say, "WTF? Its not english calss!!1"
Thank you for correcting me. I apologize, and yes I do despise that. Why can't people just pay attention in school?

Definitely.

Well, I hate it when other people say that to fellow Grammar Nazis........I've never had that remark done to me, myself....

It's odd when people attack other people for being elitist......I can't find the link at the moment, but there was once a thread somewhere on Gamespot about a person complaining that the Escapist was elitist....

Argh, I wish I could find that thread now......Filled with a bunch of trolls with bad grammar (universal).......

Yup, being a Grammar Nazi as well, people seem to type incorrectly 80 percent of the time here. [sup]And why does the Google Chrome I just installed keep seeing english words as errors?[/sup]

And from personal experience, people hate to get corrected every single time they misspell a word. But hey, they asked me for help.

Not everyone have spellcheck on.
I do at home, however I don't have it here on my friends computer...
I honestly have no idea how I have it at home either really...
Never the less, I agree on terrible sentences with ALOT of grammatical errors and typos.
However small errors are nothing, we're only human.
Also not all of us are from countries with english as our first language, I'm from Sweden for example.

It's the new members who spell wrong, they were not taught that there used to be consequences, like Joe kicking your ass inside out with a ban hammer.

Why?
Wouldn't that be making a bad example of yourself?

Grammar Police for the win! No but really though, it's mostly new folks who haven't been beaten into submission yet, or it's someone typing fast that doesn't catch a typo before they post it.

You forget some are more... prone(?) to learning new language, for example I stammer and pause mid-sentence when I speak Danish, but I almost never make a flaw when I talk English. So I'm kinda "forgetting" how to talk in my primary language.

[sup]I've got that problem as well......It's because this is a prerelease sort of thing.....The kinks will all be obliterated in the final version, methinks....[/sup]

Oh, and I will post a link to that Gamespot forum when I find it.

The only times when it gets to me are when there is an excess in one post, and when people spell "a lot" as one word (that really gets to me).

Well yes in a way it would, but I can not help but to have proper spelling. It's just the way I am. The way I grew up was around a bunch of no brain having people. No spelling or grammar structure at all. I told myself I cannot be like this when I get older.

I am an extreme Grammar Nazi. If normal Grammar Nazis are the SS, then I'm Heinrich Himmler.

I hate bad spelling, unless there is a reason, such as genuine dyslexia, disabilities, and so forth.

However, if there's one thing I hate, one thing I cannot stand, one thing I despise, it is this "txt spk" that seems to be around everywhere.

If somebody came up to me in real life and said "hy m8, wan 2 do smthn tmz?" I would punch them in the back of the head. It's just not right.
