first of all i play some fantasy and i never cried once in okami and still consider it art so Morgan has failed
there are more then 3 types of "gamers"; in fact there might be 100's of them so she has failed again.
you can't generalize all "gamers" of the same genre under one personality so she has failed a third time.

I had no idea that Morgan Webb was a professional psychologist.
this guy has already made my forth point
not all people who play game have it define there personality and maybe it is just a hobbies she failed a fifth time
last of all Goddess of gaming my ass

in a related note why does a couple have to settle problem on tv like morons when you could DO JUST IT PRIVATELY INSTEAD! this inevitably leads to the question why is the world full of idiots?

EDIT:
I would have fired her so hard if I was her boss. She basically said that anyone who plays video games has some type of complex. Why can't people just accept that it's ENTERTAINMENT.
The kind of game's people play is dependant on their psyche. I play single-player games because I'm a loner, and don't like to depend on others too much. Same concept.

Um... excuse me?

Most people play games because their fun. Their psyche has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Oh dear... I thought Tyra Banks was supposed to be attractive...

I'm really happy to have a tolerant girlfriend, if people like her on the show are normal.
Granted, I don't play all day, but generally she doesn't treat them similarly to reading books or watching TV (which is really fair, in my opinion. It's just much more engaging than TV, and more visual than books. And obviously more interactive than both).

Also, I think I'm a type 1 gamer, although I don't play FF. The categories actually make sense to me.

Umm...I'm not seeing a big problem here. Sure, There's some stereotyping, but it's far better than what the OP is saying it is. At the very least it's a huge avoidance of what could have ended up as a "Video Games Are Destroying Your Life" situation.

It has everything to do with it. One doesn't find an arbitrary satisfaction in playing a videogame. You're implying there is a superficial sense of fun in a videogame when there's clearly more to it; it's not as if the programmers can code fun into a game. I guess you can boil the question down to why: why is this entertaining to me? Why is this satisfying? I wouldn't call the study of one's videogame tastes a preffered way to diagnose of psyche, but it's undeniable that the psyche has a baring on one's taste in games (or any art for that matter). You clearly haven't done much psychology.

It wasn't too bad, but it was just saying that what they already believed in was right. They're either fantasizing about being an elf, a soldier, or a athelete. I could have been worse.

Wow, that video pissed me off. I already severely disliked Tyra Banks, now I wanna choke a B*itch. Those are the kind of women that make us all look bad. I like Morgan Webb, I thought she looked awkward there trying to justify something that doesn't really need to be justified in the first place. It was like watching people act out a Cosmo magazine or something. I'ld love if society up and decided that shopping is wrong, bad and juvenile just to see what women like Tyra and that other chick on stage's reaction.

Eh, that interview could've been worse. And Morgan Webb didn't really seem like she was bashing videogames to me, I don't really understand where people are getting that idea. But that other video, the one from the Alan Titchmarsh show, that one definitely pissed me off a little. Sheesh....

It's official! Games are for thirteen year olds! It's true because Tyra said so!

Eugh. Everything that came out of that 'expert' was a load of drivel. Games are entertainment. Games are fun. That's all there is to it (well, ignoring the experiences of narrative and story).

Also, holy shit! Games aren't real life?! Well who would'a thunk it?

From this video I get the impression that this guy's girlfriend is a woman who wants to mould a guy into her perfect vision of what her boyfriend should be, rather than just letting them be themselves. I could be entirely wrong about that but still...that's not a good thing to place a relationship upon.

edit: At least it wasn't as bad as the segment on the Alan Titchmarsh show.

I feel so sorry for the guy who had actually done some research and had to sit there listening to those retards who just spewed made up fact number x, although some of the annotations annoyed me just as much.

What!?
No.
It is you who hasn't "done much psychology".

It is quite proven that games are "fun" because they are a form of "escapism". Just like books, television and all other media.

There are two (general) forms of escapism, thus two reasons for playing video-games:
1. "Escaping" the banalities of life, doing things that one could never do in real life.
2. "Escaping" life, because of dissatisfaction with it, immersing oneself in the video-game world because it is "better" than life.

You claiming is if it is common psychological knowledge that you can infer psyche, on whether or not they play single-player games, or what genre they play, is very narrow-minded. Not to mention outright false.

You may find some correlation (people who are like this, tend to play games that are like this).
Here is the kicker:
Correlation does not imply causation.

Yeah, I really wish I could've found a non-annotated version.

I am a lady who loves videogames; me and my fiance often game together and we have filthy LAN Diablo-in-bed evenings involving a couple of old laptops, Diablo 2 and a heap of assorted sweeties. I've often thought that our mutual adoration of videogames brings us closer together; maybe the girl criticizing her boyfriend should get in there and have a go? It's amazing what a joint frag-fest can do for a relationship :)

I'm 28 with a stable job, lots of friends, plenty of hobbies and an active social life. Why does gaming always have to appear detrimental (in the eyes of the media) to personal social development? Sure, I spent 3 years locked up in a dark room doing nothing but play videogames, but it's hardly affected me in any negative way.

One does not "escape" without knowing where he is going... certain people escape to certain things: if I like to day-dream in school about being a space-marine, I'm not going to go home and play Final Fantasy.

You claiming is if it is common psychological knowledge that you can infer psyche, on whether or not they play single-player games, or what genre they play, is very narrow-minded. Not to mention outright false.

Yes, I am quite aware of this. Nowhere have I stated otherwise, and if I did, then that is my mistake. Like I said, taste in videogames is not a good way to learn about someone, but nevertheless, the signs pertaining to personality there.

Yes, Morgan Webb's summary of gamer architypes is broad, yes it is a bit offensive. But I don't see how one can debate the notion that peronality and psyche haven't any bearing on taste in art. I'm still not convinced you are correct, can you maybe provide a hypothetical example of some sort?

Wow that chick has a cool gamer bf and shes bitching
about it?? Really???? This is why I only date other
gamers. If a guys not a gamer I wont date him because
I don't want someone bitching in my ear about how I play
games to much. Its what I love to do. Also what more dose she want?
That is his hobby and apart of who he is as a person. If you really love someone
why would you want to take away something that brings them joy?

Tyra Banks show is about as reliable and influential as Michael Bay's blog about story structure. I remember watching a clip on youtube about pornography and prostitution with Sasha Grey as guest and she was looked down upon, and treated like an immature child, when she was the only person on the room that made any sense. Best to just ignore.
