So everyone, what's your favourite U2 song and why is that??

For me, I must say my favourite by them is Beautiful Day, such an amazing song with a great message behind it. :D

Honestly, I haven't heard many, just most of them off their album The Joshua Tree.

But from those, my favorite is definitely Where the Streets Have No Name. Absolute brilliance right there.

I'll have to second this and add Beautiful Day. Why?

Personally, I think U2 is music for middle-aged soccer mums. But I really like Bullet The Blue Sky, Acrobat, Wire and several others.

Sorry, not a big U2 fan. Most bands would kill for success and longevity like U2 has had, but I'm left wondering about it whenever I hear their stuff. Sure, there's maybe one song per album they've released that I like, but that's a poor ratio.

I honestly can't think of any U2 songs at all - in my personal universe they're pretty much a non-entity I ignore completely but find vaguely lame anyways. I know I must have heard a bunch of them over the years, but they evidently didn't really leave much of an impression.

This right here. I can't stand Bono. Or Mr. "I just use tons of reverb" The Edge.
It's not reverb. It's delay.
I don't know why people think that just because they use an effect that their music sucks. Delay is one of the reasons U2 is so popular... because it sounds good.

To those who do not like them I have three words:

The. Joshua. Tree.

It is one of the most amazing albums to exist, for me it's right up there with Dark Side of the Moon and Thriller as far as musical brilliance goes.

My favourite songs are Where the Streets Have No Name and Sunday Bloody Sunday. Both brilliant, beautiful songs.

I only like Sunday Bloody Sunday, and Vertigo.
Mainly Sunday Bloody Sunday since I think its a nice way of showing what happened back then.

As a guitarist, I just want to say - delay is God :)

The fact of the matter is, The Edge isn't a brilliant guitarist in terms of technical ability, but in terms of finding melody U2 are fantastic. And that's what music's about isn't it? I'd rather have a song that actually creates emotion and sounds good than something that is technically brilliant but completely cold.

Yup, The Joshua Tree is certainly one of the best albums of the decade, and one of the most important rock albums in history.

Hell, I'm not even a massive U2 fan and even I can see their importance and that they have some fantastic songs! My favourites are probably Bullet The Blue Sky and One though. One is such a beautiful song.

So am I right in thinking that most people's experience of U2 only extends to their recent stuff? Anyone who's interested should go and listen to their records between War and The Joshua Tree and hear the band at their peak.

...anyway, my favourite song is Sunday, Bloody Sunday, the version from the live album Under a Blood Red Sky (``This is not a rebel song!'')

Wearing sunglasses at night can only be pulled off by me, and only when it's somehow bright at night. Bono's a cockface.
I beg to differ:
