U2 has songwriting? To me they seem to repeat the same thing over and over. But then i havent listened to enough post rock yet, the only Post Rock related album i own is Neurosis Through Silver In Blood, which is metal, but im still sceptical about U2's influence on post rock, Sigur Ros, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions In The Sky, Mogwai, Cul De Sac and etc acctually sound interesting and with a good amount of creativity, U2 sounds like a boring generic rock band.

Well I'd say one of the main strengths of Explosions, Mogwai, Godspeed and Sigur is their ability to 'repeat the same thing over and over' and layer it each time, listen to the untitled album by Sigur Ros, or Mogwai Fear Satan and then listen to One or With Or Without You. There's quite a clear relation in terms of layering, production, guitar effects etc. Just because U2 has Bono and most of their songs are in the 3-5 minute mark doesn't mean that there's no relation there.

King of Leon is pretty bad aswell :/

I think that Kings of Leon are pretty woeful as well (I think their transition to 'epic indie rock' was sloppy at best), but you still have to admit that the influence is there. Same with Coldplay, so two of the biggest bands in the world at the moment have clear influence from The Joshua Tree-era U2. Whether you like the music or not you have to admit that there's a big influence on the music industry.

Nothing wrong with it, but it doesnt do much for me personally.

Fair play like I said, I don't mind at all if people have different tastes at all. I'm a big fan of all sorts of music. Actually, here's a tip: if you like Neurosis, check out a couple of bands, Indukti are this postrock/metal band from Poland that mix up the odd post-rock time signatures with folk, metal, all sorts. It's really cool. Also check out Isis and Pelican

I don't like U2 at all. I can see how they influenced other people but that just means other people got a few of their ideas and actually made them into something worthwhile. Ultimately though I think it's actually Bono himself that puts me off U2, rather than the music itself. My mother had a great saying - "you can't accept the communication if you can't accept the communicator" and nowhere is that more true than with Bono. If someone who was less of a phenomenal dickhead was making the same music, maybe I'd like it more.

Post Rock and Post Metal are hard to digest at first though. But Neurosis - Through Silver In Blood is probably for me personally one of the best albums ive listened too.

Yeah I love post rock and post metal. It's so difficult to get into when you first hear it, but when you do they're such rewarding genres to listen to. Amazing to see live too!
