Personally I'm pleased by this - it was a stupid, lazy move by them in the first place, and seemed doubly stupid in light the history of the man who gave birth to the series attitude about such things.
I'd have thought that Mr Clancy might raise an eyebrow about his games being played in China at all. 0_0
Maybe. He was pretty conservative.

On the other hand, there's an argument to be made that western media being seen by those under governments that attempt to strictly control what people see, hear, and do may be one of the best inroads to changing those people's minds- even in censored forms.

Oh, I get that, but while I've never played Rainbow 6 outside the original, I'm left to ask what kind of themes or ideas Siege would impart other than "terrorism is bad?"

"Americans, and the American military-industrial complex, is awesome?"
"Only America could unite people of disparate nationalities to become ass-kickers?"

...All right, expecting serious philosophical expansion through R6:S alone is probably a stretch. Still, even if it just inspired a player to be curious about fiction from another country- acting as a kind of "gateway drug", as it were- that would still be something.

Speaking of Chinese censorship, apparently in China Winnie the Pooh was censored out of Kingdom Hearts 3 ads because people made fun of the president comparing him to Winnie the Pooh. People aren't even sure he'll be allowed to appear in the Chinese version of the game.
