Except you know there exists all the games that either have a higher resolution, framerate, or both on the PS4. Big bad monster heel Microsoft doesn't seem to be all that effective at the enforcement they apparently do as they are still jobbing to Sony every week.
Why would you engage in nefarious or underhanded practices before you have to? Why not wait and see if your console can hold its own, in terms of game and market performance, before you attempt to strong-arm publishers? People thought the PS4 was more powerful on release, but now there's quite a bit of in-game evidence to support the assertion - enough to sway potential console buyers, even. If they survey and discover folks are choosing PS4 because the games look better, that's when the "deal makers" leap to action. They have to protect the brand, they have to make sure XB1 owners feel "first class". They did it with the indie devs more openly. I've no doubt they're lobbying the bigger publishers for similar favorable treatment.

Its crazy talk because if they were doing it we'd know, and it'd extreme bad juju for Microsoft if that were to actually be revealed.
You recall this was the console that tried to force numerous idiotic anti-consumer "features" down our collective throat roughly a year ago, right? All of that seemed like bad juju, too, and they were so bold as to claim they were doing us multiple favors.

I see the focus is now shifting to Microsoft as it always ends up happening as apparently that makes it more credible, no it bloody doesn't. I don't care how much you hate Microsoft, or how "evil" you think they are.
It's pretty simple: Microsoft is pushing the least powerful hardware. A "parity clause" only makes sense for the least powerful hardware. Therefore, if someone is pushing a parity clause, it's Microsoft. I don't consider them evil in the slightest. I do consider them capable of pulling "power moves" in order to artificially impact the marketplace in their favor. They've a long history of doing so.

No evidence is no evidence.
100% correct, which is why I would never stand up and report it as fact to another group of people. This "whistle blower" does not represent a fully credible first-hand source. I personally believe it is highly likely Microsoft is engaging in these practices behind closed doors because it makes all the business sense in the world for them to do so. I apply game theory to nearly all of my thinking, so my suspicions will always be informed by the motivations of those involved. But those are my beliefs on the matter, not my "science" (for lack of a better term here).

You seem bizarrely aggressive about this issue.

The Game Architect said that they aim for 60 fps but due to "limitations", they have to settle for 30 fps in recent games. He then implied that console makers are pressuring them into doing the same thing on PC.
Okay, I get that Ubisoft likes to act bullied by the market and the environment and basically anything that makes a suggestion, but come on! It's not like Microsoft or Sony are going to look at your Assassins Creed Unity and say "nooooooope! Doesn't have only 30fps and it has too much content even though it still fits on a disk! We don't want your Assassin's Creed IP on our systems anymore." Although, if that did happen, all they'd have to do is reduce the budget a bit, not lock up the visual quality as they do, and release it competently for PC. It's almost as if when you make competent PC ports people would actually buy them *shock shock* and you can cut out the Console middle-man. *more shock*

I mean, I get that console makers are basically your best business partners but this doesn't seem to fit with what I also heard from the console side where the CONSOLE MAKERS were getting pressure from PUBLISHERS to do the always-on, DRM, etc. DRM... which, need I remind you, Ubisoft is more infamous for than EA. [I'm not saying I *know* Ubisoft was pressuring them, but... I'm not going to hide my suspicion.] Don't act victimized, Ubisoft, you have some of the most popular IPs and they're going to accept your products anyway.

These publishers! They can't stop trying to make us feel sorry for them for things that nobody is actually truly making them do. They keep refusing to acknowledge all alternatives simply because they *might* be less lucrative.

Where did you gather that he only owns a Microsoft console, is it the hip new trendy thing to accuse and label people without knowing a damn thing about their lives these days? because I find that disgusting and childish.

Is Steam your best pal and friend?(See what I did there?), I hope you say no because no company is your "friend", they exist to make money just like MS exists to make money.

No. Evidence.
There is nothing even implying that Microsoft is blackmailing devs into going 900/30 especially when a lot of games are 1080/60/both on the PS4 and not the Xbox One.

You can theorise wild fantasies, but however "sane", or "likely" as you see them...they'll still be wild fantasies.

That was a direction they took, they didn't sell the thing and than go "hahaha we got you". They revealed what it was and after seeing people didn't like they dropped it.

Its no evidence that are blackmailing other companies.

No I'll tell you why. These things come in several flavours.

The first is the big three which is now the least used (and trust me I know) as Nintendo simply do not matter for all this resolution or framerate bunkum so its pointless to include them. Even the most biased and hate filled individual knows they couldn't possibly factor.

Than there is the duumvirate of Sony and Microsoft (the most common) which oppress those poor fine gentlemen down at Ubisoft/EA/and so on. Now quite honestly a tag team between the top face champion, and the top heel is actually an interesting thing I'd like to see someday its not happening here, and will likely never happen anywhere for me to enjoy.

Finally there is simply Microsoft. Duumvirate not doing well? People saying Sony have no reason to do something? Or that they've been acting pretty good? They like Sony? Than simply unleash the final level in console bashing and focus all it on Microsoft as you can sell that to the most amount of people.

That is why it devolves towards Microsoft. In promos you got to sell to the crowd the story and Microsoft might as well be 2005-2007 Cena at this point.
For example Angle (a heel) got cheered against Cena (the hated top face who might as well have been listed as a heel) even though he cut a promo beforehand saying he hated "the black people", wants to to tap out Jesus, that all the fans are idiots, and *gasp* he thinks France is the greatest country in the world all while having a Muslim manager when Muslim hate was going strong. If you go against someone hated in a big way you can say as crazy as you want things and still get cheered.

Another example would be Swagger and Zeb. Heels because they are xenophobic, hate minorities and target mostly Hispanics. Cheered and faces when they oppose the booed Anti-American "Russian" heel Rusev.

With Nintendo not been relevant to the feud, and Sony enjoying some good matches and becoming more of a fan favourite by the day it makes sense to focus for people to focus all of it against the top heel Microsoft.

Ironically "the One" (the one I don't own? That sounds pretty good) is the only platform I don't currently own. Multiplatform holder buddy so all your little barbs bounce back to you.
I now have carte blanche to hit you with all the barbs I want (you did after all play essentially an equivalent to the Nazi card), but it just isn't worth it. Waste of time.

Considering your previous post, and that that one its clear that whatever I write you'll see what you want, so whatever book the story to yourself if you can't handle yourself on the mic.

I thought everyone had wised up in regards to me being multiplatform, but it seems there will always be someone with that ineffective card in their hands.

Well we don't play those games, but what are the odds considering this is the Escapist after all.

What do you mean?

And this story had to come out at some point, if not concerning Ubisoft it would be another developer but still pointing the finger at M$ or Sony.
This?
Simple, if this "story" never happened then a similar piece would have appeared naming a different developer bending over for Sony or Microsoft.
It would still be untrue but with this generation these kind of stories will appear often. And of course it would point to Sony of Microsoft as they are the limiting factor. (Yes I once again said the consoles are weak.)

Uncertain? Yeah someone gathering divisive hate isn't biased.
ALways a conspiracy. Yeah the cabal rung their minions on reddit to get that deleted. Hitmen have located the guy and are about to make their kill with their powergloves.
where has that post gathered "divisive hate"?

no, more likely the person saw that it got way more out of hand than he intended and wanted to play it safe in case someone tracks him down and doxxes him or something. that seems to be the popular thing to do nowadays isnt it.

There is no discussion. You wanted to find out if everyone believes in conspiracies is one thing, posting a thread with a link to obvious poppycock to drive up divisive hate is quite another.
So apperently asking peoples opinion on something i found on the internet is "driving up divisive hate". what is this, soviet union?

You have no evidence such downgrades have happened through Microsoft influence.
I do not, nor did i claim i do.

Lack of understanding on your end again, it was a measure that helped save gaming.
The seal of approval was a good thing as it restored faith in games as products as it killed off the huge amounts of cheap, quick, indie garbage that the likes of Atari had allowed to explode out of control.
No, it was not. gaming was never in the need of saving. while the US market had crashed at one point, it was limited to US and the rest of the world was fine. and even then the whole crash was only in comparison to oversaturation. yet somehow the "quick indie garbage" only ever managed to kill Atari and noone else. heck, the console manufacturers LOVE that "quick indie garbage". sony is opening the gates, microsoft even got subsidiary program (ID@Xbox).

Those were the times, you couldn't have the likes of sex or anything that targeted the church or whatever else like that. So now that you know that things were censored and removed all the way back in the NES days please drop the whole "they are now even dictating what is allowed in a game" nonsense as if its a new development.
Fair enough, i admit i didnt knew that consoles controlled the content to such extent in the past and that i learned its not a new developement. Does not mean i agree it should be allowed though.

I don't deal in conspiracies but mentioning that other conspiracy among PC gamers as it illustrates perfectly why your claims are hogwash. What you're doing is akin to a man who believes Obama is a lizard saying the man who thinks Obama is a Muslim is crazy.
You have implied that i believe in some sort of conspiracy multiple times when even in the opening post i have expressed my doubts about truthfulness of this information and never claimed i "believe in it".

You know it would be nice if at least in one topic you would stop misrepresenting my points. or maybe as you said earlier, you simply dont understand them?

As you're so fond of saying: no. I can see you're really into these various narratives, but I'm more interested in motivation. That's generally what investigators look for, isn't it? When you can find someone with motive, you're far more likely to prove the crime or offense or whatever. Probably because people without motive generally don't do things.

Microsoft has the weakest hardware. They stand to look the "worst" if devs are cranking frame rates and resolutions based on system specs. They are the most motivated of the three major platforms (XB1, PS4, PC) to introduce "parity clauses".

Investigators also tend to look for instances of similar past behavior. We just recently had a piece about MS strong-arming indie devs into "parity clauses" that force them to prioritize the XB1. That's some underhanded and extremely recent bullshit.

The signs point to MS being motivated to behave this way *and* capable of behaving this way. That's obviously not enough to convict, but you're definitely not letting MS get on any planes.

I was referring to the motives of the now deleted poster in the link.

Across countless companies it would take a single person leaking it (you know actual evidence) and we'd all know about it. This isn't that, its some kid (referring to guy in link) posting some story where he makes up a bunch of crap so he can laugh at the hate filled posts that get made in response.

Details of that aren't fully clear without the specifics, it could be that only applies to the indies in their indie program for all we know.

Microsoft have been damaged by their countless losses in title matches with Sony, they need time in the midcard to rebuild their shattered credibility. Pulling some big heel move to get a title shot that results in them getting squashed is not what they will be looking for. A face turn is in the cards for them (I for one am looking forward to face Microsoft)

I mean you only need to look at Sony as evidence of this. Sony 8 years ago had their absolutely huge title run ended so decisively that they plummeted down the card in a big way. It took a while but feuds in the midcard especially the one with Microsoft over the midcard title were over in such a big way with the audience that it has catapulted them to once again taste the gold.

The only problem is that this rumour would logically have a counter rumour stating that Sony are pushing developers to use the highest res and fps they can to further prove the superior power of the PS4. Even if you removed that rumour we all saw how hard Sony grabbed the balls ups that MS made in the E3 reveals prior to the XBones launch, if this was true then Sony would be all over it telling anyone and everyone that MS is having games gimped to make their console look better.

Ubi took a lot of flak over their stupid press releases regarding FPS and Res, is it any coincidence that within a week of that you have rumours regarding a Ubisoft Programmer talking cr*p about being forced to down grade their games to make the console manufacturers happy. It also flies directly in the face of developers who aren't down grading their games. Oh MS and Sony are forcing Ubi to downgrade their games but Polyphony, Naughty Dog, Slightly Mad Studios and Turn 10 aren't?

Anything Ubisoft says about the quality of their games and the reasons behind it has to be taken with a very large pinch of salt because chances are it will be full of pure bullshit and crazy.

It wouldnt be a far stretch imho. Its business and console manufacturers are pushing NextGen on ignorant customers but tech savvy types know that PC will always outpace the fixed tech of consoles over time. Big companies like MS pull this stuff behind the scenes all the time. Vista, for example, was designed to force people to upgrade their gear. The current shift to 64bit os exclusives is doing the same thing with publishers putting out bloated spec requirement for the their games pushing intel-I7s(really overkill, I5 is more than sufficient) and high priced gpus like a GTX970 with 3gb vram. And yet PC gets under optimized ports like Evil Within that dont maximize the hardware.

No, the claim was that Ubisoft have intentionally downgraded the PC version of Watchdogs, for reasons unknown, and lied about it. This provides a possible reason, that we can neither confirm nor deny. Like i already said, this reason is unlikely due to this apperently being limited to Ubisoft and not other publishers, whitch would cast the shadow of the doubt on Ubisoft rather than Sony or MS.

I dont know what business you are in nor do i care, all i want is for you to stop misrepresenting my posts.

That on the PS4? No so it isn't an indie they are "falling over themselves" to get. Indie stuff at the time was those type of games the large majority of the time. Imagine the indie scene was 95% (pulled out random figure yes) that and than come back to me and say the two time frames (the now and the past) are the same.

Yes the home PCs in Europe were doing fine enough, but gaming wouldn't be what it is today without the explosion of popularity that happened in the US and Japan. However you're wrong if you think I need to refute you, you've made two glaring massive mistakes when talking about that period already, you have no credibility when it comes to claiming it was like X in those times as otherwise you wouldn't have made the mistakes you made.

You say that, but you'll likely in the span of the next week make mention that it must be the shadow cabal for X to be Y (I can't believe I have to say this, but when I mention you saying the cabal is responsible it doesn't mean you literally using the word cabal).

i actually tried to google heel but all i got was women shoes. i even told you so in another thread where i asked you to explain what heel is. i do admit i did not google Duumvirate.

So based on the wikipedia links, you were calling people "villians" and "bad guys". and yet you claim it is not an insult.
Heel (professional wrestling) is on the first page (and again I asked you to pm me as I'd already explained previously). Well good, make sure you google such words next time before accusing me of making words up as it saves us all a good amount of time.

No of course it isn't an insult. Take for example that guy, you know the one (I know his name by the way, before you accuse me of not) who has sold his storyline/feud to certain fans so heavily they've been buying millions worth of his merch. What he did a couple of months back when he badmouthed consoles on a PC site was essentially like a guy showing up on an ECW show and saying some heelish things about WWE. Clearly a heel, but due to the location/audience he got loads of face pops.
I personally feel the man is a bad heel as its a very one dimensional gimmick and anybody can make use of cheap heat, but clearly a lot of people buy what he sells.

Saying the man is a heel isn't an insult, far from it. Its acknowledgement of his role which considering if he actually meant fully what he said (and it wasn't a storyline to build interest) he'd be an idiot/actual bad person depending how you look at it.
A lesson everyone has to learn in life is that people will say certain face/heel things to build towards a specific purpose.

Take PR men, I hope you don't actually believe when they are saying ridiculous things that they actually saying those things for real. Its got a purpose, its all kayfabe.

Just leave it, if anyone is going through life and so strongly identifying with something that they have to inject it into everything and unable to have a conversation without trying to inject it they have issues that nothing you could do or say would ever resolve. Waste of your keyboards wear and tear.
First of all I don't inject it into everything, I switch out terms with the ones I like when they are appropriate. Instead of saying "He is just saying that to make people who don't like X to buy his stuff", I'll instead say "He is just heeling it up to get people to buy his merch" for example. Its funner for me to type and for people to read.

Secondly we're on a gaming forum where people throw about gaming terms and use slang so yeah, you have no ground to stand on.

Thirdly I'm surprised you just straight up said I have issues, I mean how you said it you're clearly saying I have some mental issues which is actually very insulting. Its boring, direct...and infrequent but your gimmick is effective on the one off.
Thank you for building me some extra sympathy as I got that problem of being booed if I dominate a match too heavily, your interference and cheap shot with the foreign object, and now this signature I've delivered to you to send you to the outside will make me have a better match as we build to the finish.

No need to sensitive about anything, I was talking in general about the whole PC vs console thing and not any user in particular. Because you know people really do strongly identify with one side or the other, claiming I am being "direct and insulting" towards you is sensitivity at best and egocentric at worst.

If its the former I am sorry that you took it that way, unfortunate but what can I do if another poster misinterprets a general comment about wider attitudes?

As whatever ground you think I may or may not be standing can you elaborate? I made no claims about my position at all, I am curious about what assumptions you have come to.

That was what you were talking about... I thought you were referring to me using wrestling terms, not that platform wars nonsense I have no part in.
