Price went from $59 to $75 on Steam for absolutely no sane reason. And they wonder why people are so contemptuous of big publishers.

Can still get it from GMG and OzGameShop for the much cheaper price however.

Hacking a game about a hacker? How apt.

You can just say that you are being 'in character'.

I guess they're racing to try and make money back now that word is out the game is pathetic.

Although this seems like a terrible way to do so.

Aren't Aussies already accustomed to insane prices? Suddenly hiking it up like that makes no sense from player's perspective though, that much is true.

I admit I've been living under a rock, relatively speaking when it comes to this game, but who is saying the game is pathetic?
(outside of the usual "rawr rawr we hate Ubisoft" bandwagon)

I'm actually legitimately curious.

Eh... somewhere on these forums was a thread about a review of a leaked/hacked copy that gave the game a 7.2.
But all the actual meat of the complaints just seemed to be about sysreqs and the game not looking ultra-next-gen, with very little said about the actual gameplay; (I think the review spent about one line on describing the single-player as "solid") so I'm still waiting to hear more on that front before I let my mind be made up for me.

So for those who already preordered are their preorders locked in at the old price at which they ordered, or are they being charged more?

Well, if the money has come out of your account already, I'd say you're safe. But if it hasn't come out I'd be a bit leery of the whole thing. You did however 'buy' it at an expected price, and trying to get more out of you after the fact could be illegal for all I know.

Us in New Zealand face the same nonsense as they do, it's irritating to say the least.

There have been a lot of leaks of screenshots and such making the game look not as good as we were promised to be. I'm sure it's okay but Ubisoft made really high expectations and it looks like it's backfiring.

And this is why I buy from OZgameshop

Seriously, everyone should buy their games from there...

I mean, sure, there is a bit of a delay, but what would you prefer...

a 1-2 day wait (code by email)

or spend an extra $20? (Usually more, since they discount a lot)

Yay shopping around!

well that kangaroo-proof optic fiber isnt going to pay itself

my aussie friends, if you ever find yourself in a similar situation in the future, just take 60 dollars, maybe a bit over that, use it to buy TF2 keys, then trade those keys for a copy of the game, i have to do that for every Take-Two title those assholes wont release in my country

You could have stopped at 'Ubisoft screws Australia.'

And they're not first in line.

They did advertise you could "hack everything." Maybe people are just too literal.

Seriously, though, people shouldn't pirate the game. Legality aside, it sends the wrong message. I dream of the day when a game is damned by both low sales and virtually non-existent piracy. Especially if it's a AAA title.

Dude, it got a 7.2[footnote]on a site nobody's heard of from a dodgy reviewer who may be lying about his credentials and may or may not have played a legit copy[/footnote]! That's, like, an F!

I thought it was koalas. Those suckers are nasty.

Honestly, though, I think we need more "gift an Aussie a game" days, like LRR organised.

Ah yes, Team Fortress 2, the world's 8th biggest economy.

I wonder when I'll be allowed to pay for things in the real world with metal, keys, and unusual hats.

When you say code by email, what code exactly are they giving you? I usually just wait for a Steam sale/Humble Bundle/GOG, but that means I rarely get to play flashy new games when they're flashy and new.

Oh but the 'Australia Tax' doesn't exist, right guys?
We should stop complaining because our wages are higher?
Despite the fact this country faces a slash and burn budget because the government are corporate shills?

Nope, this is A-OK with Escapists, apparently. Until it's not.

This is typical gouging by companies because they can get away with it. Nothing more.
