So recently Ubisoft has been in a downward spiral like that drug addicted uncle you had when you were a child. They've been releasing games at the worst possible times (Rayman 3 the same month as mw3 and skyrim), giving games unimaginably horrible drm drivng people to piracy, blaming pirates for EVERYTHING, saying the sequal to Beyond Good And Evil depends on Rayman's sales (which makes no sense), calling pc gamers whining bitches, lying about drm, and basically making every possible wrong move.

So my question to you is, do you think Ubisoft is really this stupid? Or do they have some kind of plan to stop people from playing good games and indefinately delaying projects?

Sadly I think theyre just stupid

If they were evil, they wouldn't have made any good games for the past few years. The fact that they made a Rayman game with no "DAAAAAH" anywhere to be heard, let alone that it was good, is proof enough that they're not evil. Just stupid - otherwise they'd have chosen a better time to release it.

Can we please ignore the one-sided hate thread? I'm sick of reading threads where the discussion value is "On a 1-10 scale, how much do you agree X sucks? Note; picking 1-8 is not allowed." Nothing is gained from this type of thing.

Stupid -and- evil?

Yep, I'm sticking with that. They haven't made a product worth buying new in years, let 'em die.

Eh, I'll go with stupid, or at least lacking in people skills.

Not that that's unique for the industry. In an age when anything you say can be spread all over the internet in a matter of hours I think Ubisoft and other developers* need to think carefully about how they communicate with the media, and who does that communicating. Yes, it's nice hearing things straight from the horse's mouth, but too often these guys just run their mouths of as carelessly as if they were posting in the comfort of anonymity on an internet forum.

[sub]*yes, I'm looking at you, Bioware[/sub]

Just stupid.

The tragic part is that they're perfectly capable of making good games when they put their mind to it.

Nice, is that your idea of a joke or just real bad taste on your part?

So releasing a game that appeals to kid's that can't/ arn't old enough to play MW3 and Skyrim in time for christmas is bad?

DRM is protecting their product and should not drive people to piracy, in fact people pirate games cause they don't want to pay!

Of course it makes sense, if a comapny doesn't make money, they don't have money to invest in new projects.

They are just being stupid. I sometimes get the idea that they think EA has the best buisness model and are trying to gain a similar reputation.

They're not evil, they are just stupid. They don't know anything about their consumer base. Put me in charge of Ubisoft and in less than a month gamers everywhere would love Ubisoft again. Just think how simple it is to attract more PC gamers, and reduce piracy. Aside from the obvious issue of game optimization, all they have to do is release their games on Steam and add some TF2 items for pre-orders. For example, a hidden blade for Spy, a crossbow for Sniper, assassin's outfit for Scout, night vision goggles hat etc. PC gamers would be all over their games. And it's not really hard to optimize a PC game when you're using the same god damn engine for years. It's a shame they're so stupid because they make some of the best games I've ever played. It's as if they are savants. Geniuses at making video games, but completely retarded for everything else.

They protected their products so well that I had to find myself a crack to run legit games without DRM.

>Ubisoft
>no money

Pick one.

It doesn't make sense, it's only an attempt at making the players feel guilty and buying a game they might not even like because they want BGE.

Stupid. Just really really stupid. I've known this ever since they said the new Rainbow Six game will have a moral choice system *sigh*

Well consensus seems to be with either neither, or just stupid. However seeings as someone else said stupid AND evil.. I will say Evilly stupid. Pretty much kind of like any school age bully. They end up doing very evil things, and dont even realize just how stupid those things are / can be.

But Hey, Ubisoft... you can redeem yourself in my eyes. Just give me back the 15$ and 4 hours of my life that was ruined by From Dust.

Ubisoft have made some incredibly stupid decisions recently with following the ridiculous online passes like EA and the always online DRM with From Dust. I'm not going to say that they will continue to be idiots but someone needs to slap them and tell them to wake up and make their next assassins creed interesting enough so I'll want to play it.

What?
Seriously?

That is not the main reason. Companies want you to believe that is the biggest issue. But in truth they are just whining and really don't know or understand anything. Ubisoft has painly proven this by constructing a retarded DRM that also fucks up the game for customers who are paying. The DRM is going to be cracked sooner or later. So they might as well treat their paying customers well, instead of trying to keep pirates out. But this DRM is giving two middle fingers to their customers. Ubisoft are just a sorry bunch of stupid asshats. And it is not just Ubisoft...

Yes, there are people that pirate the game because they don't want to buy it. But no, that is not the biggest issue and no, it isn't as bad as companies make it out to be.

What I find interesting, maybe it's just me though, is that Assassin's Creed Revelations, which is generally going to be considered a console game, runs much better and looks much better on my PC than my PS3, yes I own the game twice on two platforms before some troll claims I haven't played it on console. Maybe that's because I have a brand new PC, but it seemed to me like it was developed to run on a decent PC then limited in terms of graphics for every other platform it would be released on.

I'd agree with your last sentence though, it's something I often say when anyone asks me if I like Ubisoft :)
