A couple days ago I i was arguing with my buddy he then says 'UGH I HATE EVERY FPS THEY'RE ALL THEY SAME' I didn?t understand his argument though of course there all the same it?s a genre if they weren't ''the same '' they wouldn't be called fps ?
Anyways before I go on an unnecessary rant I want to know what's the most uninformed comment you heard someone say about video games (in general)

Ps: sorry for the misleading title if you expected to cut a troll a new one

But.. but I like most of the FPSs despite all being the same.

Why? Because I find them enjoyable and fun with friends.

Edit: Yeah, my brother likes to label every casual game crappy Farmville knock offs.

Hey! No complaining! My Dad still calls every single game with a firearm of any form 'Shoot-em-up' games.

Then he usually goes on about how they're designed for babies and they will have no place in my adult life...

To be honest, COD is pretty much nothing like Medal of Honor or Bad Company, which are nothing like Halo.
It's pretty much like saying "Oh I only listen to one band per genre because it's all the same anyway"

I have a friend who sees an RPG (even a western one) with a character who might have a slightly screwed up hairdo or messed up story 'another JRPG P.o.S'

...I love JRPG's...especially the 'obscure' ones, like Atelier Iris, Ramona I haven't started playing yet

Most games in the last 5 years do follow a very similar pattern, either a super-human space marine fighting some unspeakable evil (See halo). Or its a call of duty clone (ANY FPS), Simply put, If a game sells well, Dev's will copy that game. At this point in time, If you want originality, look to indev's making games like "minecraft", Or broaden your gaming horizon, try genres like RPG, action-RPG, MMORPG and RTS. There are alot of good games set for those styles, like mass effect 3, Cataclysm and The Elder Scrolls: skyrim. All of these games have at least 5X the game length and playability of most FPS's today.

I personally hate the goo modern FPS games have become, Having played all the C.o.D's and many games like them, I do not see why they are so well accepted, but that's just my point of view. As an avid RTS and MMORPG gamer I probably dont feel the same attraction as many do shooting someone in the face. But eh, live and let kill.

About video games? That all fighting games are mindless button-mashers that need no skill whatsoever. It's that exact reason that I didn't like Yahtzee's Soul Calibur 4 video.

"Friends don't let friends play WoW".

Never heard him say it directly, but someone told me this is his point of view. Haven't had the chance to sit him down and knock some sense into him yet.

To elaborate on my view on that: WoW is a game like any other, it's just a lot longer and has a lot more content to it, so some people who can't manage their time well lose themselves in the game and fuck themselves over. But if they didn't waste it on WoW, they'd waste it on something else.

I hate people that say believe that it's some demon-drug-game that ruins lives... it's all about the individual >.<

AT OP: I really hate when people use that tactic in the title; to get me to click on the thread, idea streaming through my head about the augrement only to find out your on the same side as me. To make thinks worst or most irrelevant the person with that view isn't even present in the said thread. btw I don't cut I tear. ;]

First point aside:'Extra Credits' has a really good video on this topic in it's mailbag episode, (probably the best videos on the Escapist website). http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/2216-Mailbag-1

They're all first person shooters I guess, but for the most part they are really different.

The most uninformed comment I have heard about video games has to be:
"You play WoW? You must have no life, play nothing but WoW, and dedicate your whole EXISTENCE to playing WoW!!!"
- The same can be said about *ahem* EVERY OTHER FUCKING VIDEO GAME FANATIC.

Hey, glad to see I'm not the only person that's dealt with that bullshit.

I generally agree with you here, though games such as Mass Effect 2 were touched upon by the behemoth that is Halo's regenerative shield that has set the standard for games today. And more and more games are starting to shift towards the gritty grimdark gameplay. Almost all genres copy the prevailing titans of their field in some way(Read:Cover based gameplay), It's just logical. FPS games just receive the brunt of the flak because that's the most prevalent genre at the moment. When the unlikely "Turn-Based Strategy" comes along you'll hear volleys of people decrying all that is because they stole it from X-Com.

Let me extrapolate your friend's ultimate idea.

Ahem.

I HATE ALL GAMES BECAUSE THERE ARENT ANY GAMES THAT DONT HAVE SOMETHING SIMILAR TO ANOTHER GAME!!!!1!!!111!

I hate that. There IS nothing new in the world, simply an innovative TAKE on an old concept. If he can't deal with that, his problem.

My Dad does this, and he also said this when I was playing the DCU beta:
"So it's like Dragon's Age?"
After explaining while I did take missions, it was nothing like Dragon's age, he said:
"Do you take missions?"
"Yes, but..."
"Did you design your character? Do you try to gather a group to beat the bad guy?"
"Yes, but..."
"Then it's like Dragon's Age."
His smug look of "I win" pissed me off the most.
I responded while he was playing madden "So it's like Mutant League Football, right?" and used his reasoning. THAT pissed him off (he hates MuTF, but enjoys the new Madden game)
Another case was when my mom saw me playing the Just Cause 2 demo and thought it was red faction. of course, I'd really only been playing those 2 games, it was entering dust (so a red hue) and she was glancing by. Much more forgivable then someone who had been watching me play the game for an hour and calls it Dragon's Age...a WoW comparison would have been better at least.

Recently, a classmate said that 'Video games are for people with no life'. I was about to go on a long, Extra Credits-quoting screed about why he was wrong, but I decided to save us both the time.
