I don't understand why they can't make good use of that PS3 band. Honestly, put the PSN logo, Move controller, and 3D logo up at the top but in a very minimalist fashion. IE: ONLY the PSN logo, ONLY the Move controller, and ONLY "3D" on the PS3 band.

Or place it on the spine, or the back of the box where most of the fucking information is there to begin with. As it stands, it's fuck ugly.

Agreed. That box art looks awesome, but the logos are all cluttering the bottom and clashing with the rest of the cover style. Shove them on the back or if you have to have them on the front, make them nice and small in a corner. This makes it so they can still be read if you focus on them, but generally stay out of the way for the pretty artwork on the front.

Everything about this box art is fantastic ... except for all the logos. "Only on PlayStation." "PlayStation Move Compatible." "3D Compatible." Sony's logo, Insomniac's logo, PSN's logo, and the ESRB rating - they all mar this lovely, subtle piece of artwork. It's frustrating, really.
This is exactly how I feel about a beautiful girl with a tramp stamp.

The whole minimalist thing doesn't really work when you slap all those logos on top of it. The artwork loses its whole effect because of that, making it look absolutely terrible and uninteresting.

What they need to do is just dedicate a little bar at the bottom to giving credit. It would only have to be about a half-inch, or three-quarters inch even, and they could put the developers and everyone else and their dog who wants credit clearly visible in there. It would be a lot more tasteful, but still tragically commercialized.

They should've just put a glossy of the cover with none of the logos on it inside the games box.

Oh a game about fighting aliens in New York, how fucking original. Nice box art, though.
New York, Chicago, some place in Idaho, Iceland, Manchester, York, Mexico...

Anyone with any background on the series knows it's more than just that. Hope there's more of Europe, Asia and Australia in this though.

I kinda feel like this game should have ended after the second one. Feels like their dragging it out.
On the contrary, I hope that Resistance 3 takes the best elements from Resistance 1+2 and blends them for best results. Resistance 2 was kind of a crappy note to end the series on.

OT: I like the art. Resistance has had reasonable box art so far.

The contrast is the central point of those two. FOM had the "aliens in the trenches", R2 had the "aliens in the cities".

Clearly the soloution is a reversible sleeve. Sold with all the logos on, but with the option to take out the paper sleeve and turn it inside out to have a plainer cover free of logos and even the ISBN number.

Most of those logos should be on the back of the box.
Still, I don't think many people are going to be buying Resistance 3 for its box art...

The ERSB I totally understand being on the front cover, it doesn't look good, but I can understand why it needs to be there.

Everything else could have been on the back cover, why even have the PS3 logo on top? For the most part the package shape and shelf location are enough to let you know it's a PS3 game.

This actually hurts the game, I think. Cleaner covers draw the eye, they also don't make them hurt upon viewing.

Times like this make being a designer and an artist really reeeally emotionally painful.

Oh god, that second art-work gave me a graphic-design-hardon.

Why the fuck didn't they go with that one? looks amazing, not only is it not too minimalistic, but it shows a weary soldier walking towards the new york sky-line with an ominous alien-skull lurking over it. Thats pretty much everything you need to know from the get-go.

Put them on the back. It's so obvious. Maybe Yahtzee was right and Americans do hate things that look good. Cripes, the word "Playstation" appears three times on the cover. And "Sony" too, just in case they weren't getting enough name-dropping in there. Damn you, consumerism and the obsession with logos you have spawned.

Would it have killed them to put that on the back, or just... somewhere else?
It would have looked fantastic if it was just that with the PS3 banner on the top.
Alas, another victim to the whore of marketing.

Thousands of years from now people will put the covers of Resistance 1, 2 and 3 next to each other, then play them...
Then ask how the fuck any of them are related to each other
