"More than 30,000 people have been banned from a dating website which says it's exclusively limited to beautiful users."

Greg Hodge, the site's managing director, said: "We got suspicious when tens of thousands of new members were accepted, many of whom were no oil painting.

"We responded immediately, repairing the damage from the Shrek virus and putting every new member [to the vote].

"We have sincere regret for the unfortunate people who were wrongly admitted to the site and who believed, albeit for a short while, that they were beautiful," he added.
What the hell Internet?! Everyone is beautiful, they don't need you telling them whether they are or not.

Edit: I've been getting lots of quotes about the "everyone is beautiful" thing and I stand by that. Everyone is beautiful, there is more than one type of beauty in the world. I am against the idea of this website and their general policy because it is so close minded and arrogant of a dating site when most of the time, physical beauty is a matter of perspective. If 29 guys think a girl is "ugly" and one guy thinks she is beautiful. Then she is beautiful.

So it's at, what? -80 or something now?

OT: Greg Hodge can take a running jump into a septic tank with that kind of attitude. I bet he was that guy in high school who would have dated his own reflection when he wasn't working out in the gym.

When the website is called "Beautifulpeople.com" I'm actually not surprised. Some people are naturally better looking then others, that's how life works unfortunately. If people can't handle the criticism that people don't think they are good looking, don't post pictures on the internet, sorry to be so blunt but it's simple as that.

That and lets face it, the guy who created this site is clearly some kind of narcissistic douche who thinks he's from superior race or something

The sheer hubris of this story made me laugh. The site alone sounds bad enough (they are the same ones that asked members to reapply if they thought they had gained weight over the holidays) but calling the thing that lets people on without voting the "Shrek Virus"? I don't even...the arrogance is off the scale.

"Via Scorched_Cascade" makes it, falsely, sound like I was one of the people kicked off the site but ah well my prophecy came true even if it was forced.

OT: Sentence to make this a longer post just to make it longer.
Dating sites are inherently flawed consumer products.

The site is just so stupid. Not even talking about the ugly people thing. Good looking people DON'T NEED a dating site to find another person. I'm sure they get asked out like every other day. I know several girls who are just -moderately- attractive and they get asked out all the time when they are at work. And that's just at work.

But isn't beauty also subjective? I think of myself as a really good looking guy, now I'm sure others would agree. But there would also be those would think I look like shit.

So why would you ever want to use that site?

Let them be as inclusive as they want, according to their definition of beauty. I think it's rather funny, and anyone who cares, well, they've got bigger problems that being an uggo. (Yeah I went there :p)

Well, I'm not surprised. It IS a site whose only requirement for joining is a pretty face, so what did people expect? The announcement made me rage though. No need to be such a self-absorbed douchebag. Those insults were unnecessary.

Anyway, beauty is an incredibly arbitrary quality anyway, as rarely do two people ever agree on it.

Also, isn't this kind of old news? Or did it happen again?

Also, IMDB, celebrity gossip sites (sometimes) and half the porn industry.

Alot of place are more likely to have attractive people than not.

Perfectly fine with me. I don't need internet to get a date. I discovered an entire world behind my pc screen. Who would have known?

So wait. Who judges beauty on this site, I wonder? A bunch of dude-bros in a musty basement?
"Oh dude, she's HAWT."
"What, really?"
"Yeah bro. Unibrows."

Its called beautifulpeople.com

You know, you'd think that they'd only have voted on attractive people on there. Its implied in the name.

It's a members vote system apparently. I don't know who judged and let in the original people (site owner probably) but to apply you have to submit pics and every existing member that wants to can vote yes or no. It sounds more like a case of ego massaging than an actual dating site.

Yeah, get rid of all those ugly people. I want nothing to do with th- *looks in mirror* ...Shit.

Also, I know I'm not the only one (because no-one is ever the only one), but I find it endlessly hysterical that he uses the term "Shrek virus" when the entire point of that film is not judging people by their appearance. +50 irony.

No they're not.

Anyway, its a site based around access depending on how well other people rate your looks, of course it isn't going to be nice about it.
