A girl in the United Kingdom put away a man who molested her thanks to the camera on her Nintendo DSi, using it to surreptiously capture his assault and force a confession.

John Fisher, 46, did admit to the abuse after his accuser (unnamed) snapped a picture of his hand groping her. Fisher's going to prison for 3 1/2 years as a result.

The girl, now 11, said Fisher, as a family friend, had abused her since she was nine yet nothing had been done until she "had the presence of mind," according to a prosecutor, to photograph him with the DSi. When the girl showed her mother the picture, she immediately contacted the cops. At first, Fisher denied the assault, but he admitted it when confronted with the picture.

A report by The Daily Mail says Fisher "admitted two offences of assault by penetration" over the past two years.

"[The victim's] quick thinking in using her games console to take a photograph of him touching her," said a police representative, "provided indisputable proof of what had happened and she was brave enough to come forward and report the incident and give us a full and accurate account of what had gone on."

Don't a few people here seem to rail against the US justice system for being ridiculous a lot? Well, if it is, the US is certainly not alone in its ridiculousness.

Oy...my granpa convinced the (literally) retarded girl who came to clean his house to give him a BJ, and all he got was five years plus probation. Sex offenses always seem to be sentenced lightly unless it's like, full-on hard core rape.
Then again, usually it seems like they give light sentences so they don't have to protect them from the rest of the prison's population for very long. Because that's probably the harshest part of any rapists, especially pedos, sentences: the other prisoners.

Bloody Hell, this is a complete f**king travesty of justice. He needs to be castrated, painfully.

Dude needs to suffer more than two "offences of assault by penetration" while he's doing time.

Isn't 9-11 a little old for it be actual paedophilia?

Regardless, that's too light a sentence for that sort of charge. Rape is and should be treated as a serious crime. 3.5 years is something more fitting to a car thief or something of that calibre.

That said, I'm not one for thinking up morbid punishments for the guy either.

It's fun how this kind of thread turns people into bloodthirsty vigilantes. Murdering someone because "he deserves it" is still murder (and in some parts of the world, even "civilized" world, people "deserve it" for disturbing reasons). On the other hand, unless you're perfectly willing to torture someone to death yourself, don't wish that fate upon them (though if you are perfectly willing to do that, tell me where you live so I can move to the opposite side of the globe).

That said; 3.5 years? I do wonder just what happened there and how such a decision was reached. I mean, seriously? What's with the law, and what's with the goddamn reporting going for the emotive reaction instead of stating all the facts? What evidence was presented, under what circumstances was his sentence decided? If he has a terminal condition and 5 years to live, 3.5 isn't that little, and all...seriously, I wish these things were less sensationalist and more informative.

[/rant]

I see people are still confusing the terms "pedophile" and "child moletser", too.

I thought it was practically impossible to be surrupticious with a DS? The camera sound is stuck on... and is quite obvious! So the bloke was a peado and an idiot!?

I think a fitting punishment would be jail in solitary until the victim turns 18, however long that may be. Then regular jail. For however long the scentence is. I think at LEAST 15 years for a crime like this is appropriate.

This is horrible.
And sadly its not terribly unusual either.

I just hope this girl is getting the support she needs.

Yeah, our courts are as broken as hell too. But at least we don't have the chance of killing someone innocent. Small consolation. Urgh. Still. It's stupid.

First note: Make sure to not confuse pedophilia with child molestation. The dude was a child molester, but not necessarily a pedo if the girl had started puberty. Pedophilia is related to pre-pubescent kids.

On the one hand, yeah, 3.5 years seems like nothing. The sick fuck *deserves* far worse.

On the other, what exactly would be the point of giving him a harsher punishment? Given the US legal system (and I imagine the UK is pretty similar in this regard), once the dude gets out of prison, no matter how long the sentence is, he'll never be able to get a half-decent job ever again. His life is already irreparably ruined from this, no matter what.

Prison is supposed to be a punishment, and that punishment should end when your prison sentence ends. Sex Offender Registries and the like carry the punishment so much longer that the ex-cons will never be able to live freely again, and so will be far, far more likely to turn to crime again, seeing as they can't work their way up the ladder legally anymore.

no I think 3.5 years is a bit too long for a car thief. a car thief should be about a year and a half in my opinion. it also would depend on whether they stole the car at gunpoint or hot wired it. 3.5 years would be something like..... okay I can't think of anything that would fit 3.5 years very well. everything is either too extreme or too light. well I suppose if you stole multiple cars.
