Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Is Disc-Only

Sorry, folks, it looks like there won't be any DLC option to purchase Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Capcom may have <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/111770-Ultimate-Marvel-Vs-Capcom-3-Info-Blowout>just announced Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but the publisher is already releasing a ton of information about the title. Unfortunately, the biggest tidbit is that it doesn't sound like the title will be available via download; it's a retail-only deal, folks.

Siliconera recently spoke to producer Ryota Niitsuma about the game. When asked if players would be able to add the game to their collections via DLC, Niitsuma explained, "Right now, we're only thinking about releasing a disc version."

A follow-up question from Siliconera asked why DLC wouldn't be an option, as well as if it was a "data issue" like with Super Street Fighter IV. According to Niitsuma, that's definitely a part of the issue:

"Given the development schedule, there wasn't enough time to work out all of the details to release it as downloadable content, as well. Also, for the reason you mentioned, there is so much data in the game it was easier to go this route."

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is set to arrive in November, for both the PS3 and 360 platforms. According to Siliconera, the game will carry a sticker price of $39.99

I don't find this all that surprising. This only further cements the hunch that some of the higher-ups at Capcom are just fucking insane.

Besides, how much would it cost as a downloadable expansion? $20, $30, $40? Might as well grab the disc, install it to your hard drive, and call it a day.

Next time Capcom releases a big game, I'll wait a year later for the inevitable Super/Ultimate/Leet/Whatever version they release of that game.

Hmmmm, what does this mean for my DLC characters? Can I not carry them over to Ultimate MvC3? That is fucking lame.

Let's see now... Multiple versions of the same game ala Street Fighter 4 and Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Check.

Not importing many Monster Hunter games to mainstream systems including the PS3 or 360, instead opting for the Wii, Check.

Making a system for the Portable Resident Evil 3Ds game where you have one and one save file EVER, check.

Fucking canceling Megaman Legends 3, check...

Yup, I'm convinced that Capcom is a bunch of shit head nutters who have no idea what the fuck they are doing anymore.

Aren't they trying to hide behind the Japanese earthquake for this? I think I read that on Destructoid. Yeah, the earthquake caused you to release 60% of a full game and then release it again...in the same year.

Edit: Yep, they are blaming it on the earthquake. [http://www.destructoid.com/japan-disaster-led-to-disc-only-release-of-ultimate-mvsc3-206639.phtml]

I think I speak for many who bought the original game on release, when I say the suits at Capcom can go fornicate with a stick. I'm not letting them scam me with this game, after I shelled out $70 for the Collector's Edition not even 6 months ago.

Mega Man is dead, I don't care about Resident Evil anymore and Team Ninja is destroying everything I liked about Devil May Cry. I'm done with Capcom.

Honestly, all this has made me seriously question Capcom. I'm starting to wonder if they know as much as we think they do.

I mean, they don't seem to understand how DLC works. Sure, adding the DLC to the game disc sounds like a good idea for a minute: hey, no loading times! It's already on the disc! But it's the same way that negative coins sound like a good idea to me while selling race tickets: hey, instead of two quarters and four dimes, I can just give them a dollar and a negative dime!

And then I realize how much of a fucking stupid idea that would be once they tip me -$484 dollars by the end of the day.

It makes you feel kinda ripped off, even if it's done fairly well. Not only that, they don't seem to understand the reverse either. Let's take MvC3 here, they're doing what to it?

They're... adding new characters? Like Phoenix Wright, people like this game. And Professor Layton, so why we didn't sell the crossover in America I dunno, but... yeah, Phoenix! And some other guys! Bundle this shit up and call it a game!

See, wouldn't it make more sense to sell each character as DLC? Instead of worrying about bundling it all into one package, why not sell it in pieces? And once you've gotten everything worked out, you can go sell it online as DLC in bundles, like character bundle, and game mode bundle. People are more patient than you think.

Capcom... also doesn't seem to understand which of its series people like. People really really wanted to play Megaman Legends 3, and weren't going to burst out of anticipation and glee when MvC3 was announced.

Actually, I noticed ML3 being cancelled as causing a... serious problem, in that now nobody I know wants to buy Capcom games, or at least not new ones. Those that they want to buy, they are going through the necessary channels to ensure that Capcom does not recieve money for them.

I'm actually surprised Nintendo doesn't stroll along and give Capcom a talking to, because there are people that will either not be buying a 3DS, or returning their 3DS because of the cancellation.

Releasing extra content for old games, and then calling it a new game because you copypasta'd the original stuff and before adding the new lights is not going to work for them. The fan backlash is... excruciating. I just came back from a friend's house, he had actually gone through his room and put all his Capcom items into a bag. He's rather upset, as evidenced by his constant vocal desires to ignite said bag.

...I guess what I'm saying is, I think Capcom's trying to "play it safe", and is going to end up with a serious dent for not doing it right.

Can't say I'm shocked. It makes sense to do it this way and, had the option for a DL version been available, I would have bought the disc version anyway.

Oh wow. Not since my time back home on the countryside have I smelled bullshit of this calibre. I take it the plates were also responsible for the original product having such an extraordinary lack of content.

The guys over at capcom:
guy 1:"guys guys guys, I can hear a voice in my head! It's saying people want what we already gave them, but giving them things they wanted to start with in that instead of dlc! Oh shit, cancel what people have been asking us to make for 10 years, we've gotta make this pronto!"

guy 2:"are you sure its not just telling us to make what people want and not rehash the same game every couple of months? What you're talking about seems like the best way we can lose our customers and just piss people off..."

Guy 1:"No im pretty sure it says re-release more fighting games. Also, you're fired."

You know, that's actually fair. They can release it as a disc, and I don't think that's what people are upset about. It seems to be that Capcom has no intention of just ever putting it out as DLC, and that's the problem. I don't see why they don't do a Dragon Age: Awakening deal, honestly. I bought the disc version of the game, but knowing that it was available online, as DLC, made me glad for those who felt that was better.

But the difference is, Capcom could release individual aspects of this game for DLC, instead of the whole thing (characters, backgrounds, game modes, music, etc.), and would... I imagine there would be a better profit from it.

Not that much of it matters, because the majority of people who would normally buy this are so pissed at Capcom right now they are leaking rage into an ominous cloud that hovers above their head so that they don't overload with it.

Also, is this whole Capcom thing gonna be on the Jimquisition on Monday or not? Because I kinda wanna see him rage out at them. I mean, this may be worse than what NoA was thinking with Project Rainfall. Publicity-wise, it most definitely seems to be. Even if it was on Extra Credits, thats be fine, but I definitely would like to see it ripped a new hole, rather than given a stern talking-to.

Though if it was on both, that would be great.

This would be a genius strategy if it weren't for the fact that everyone will trade in their copies of mvc3 to get umvc3. And then what's the point?
