I am glad to see more people are pissed off with this dick-move by capcom than I have seen on other sites (seriously, people are saying they will buy it just because of one certain new chaaracter WTF!?)

Can't say I'm shocked. It makes sense to do it this way and, had the option for a DL version been available, I would have bought the disc version anyway.
You know, that's actually fair. They can release it as a disc, and I don't think that's what people are upset about. It seems to be that Capcom has no intention of just ever putting it out as DLC, and that's the problem. I don't see why they don't do a Dragon Age: Awakening deal, honestly. I bought the disc version of the game, but knowing that it was available online, as DLC, made me glad for those who felt that was better.

But the difference is, Capcom could release individual aspects of this game for DLC, instead of the whole thing (characters, backgrounds, game modes, music, etc.), and would... I imagine there would be a better profit from it.

Not that much of it matters, because the majority of people who would normally buy this are so pissed at Capcom right now they are leaking rage into an ominous cloud that hovers above their head so that they don't overload with it.
Actually, I'd say the majority of the people who would buy this are probably on their way to pre-order it already. A bigger than expected number of much asked for characters, better balance, tweaks to X-Factor, a new potential anti-Phoenix weapon in the meter sapping exchange combo, etc. This release is for fighting game fans, and we're generally very excited about it. There's also the extremely beneficial aspect of not having to struggle with which characters to include in tournaments because some people have certain characters and some don't.

While it is definitely true that Capcom could have released the content as DLC, it's a smart move for them to not do it that way even if, as you yourself say, they would probably open themselves up to more profits that way.

Either way, I think you're massively exaggerating the number of people who really wanted MML3 to the degree that they would boycott Capcom because of it.

It's true, I may be over imagining the scope of the fanbase. It's hard not to, there seems to be a small tidal wave of people, and there was recently a chanting for MML3 at a local comic convention, and some booing took place towards Capcom.

I won't recommend you go on these sites, maybe for your safety, but places like gelburoo, 4Chan, and all over Capcom's official sites, there is seemingly overwhelming animosity to the company. Even if we cut out the people who are either the same person on every site, or making fake accounts just to spout hate, or won't live up to their boycotting promises, this is still a far larger group than Capcom would like to admit.

Even I'm too annoyed with Capcom right now to knowingly give them money. And I'm not even a fan, nor was I really looking twice at MML3. But just seeing the crushed-soul eyes of my buddy made me feel bad, and looking back on it, Capcom haven't been the high standard of gaming I was catering to fervently anyways.

And even counting out the people boycotting Capcom just for MML3's sake, there are plenty of people that won't buy this just because they feel cheated after having but the previous game, or the special edition, and so on. The numbers start to get kinda big, even if they look exaggerated.

Even if the game's good, the publicity is damaging.

How can anyone justify this purchase? 40 bucks for like ten new characters? Are you insane?

I'll wait another 2 months and pick up Super Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Deluxe for $20 dollars instead.
And then I'll wait two months after that to pick up Ultra Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 for the same $20 price tag.

They said Ultimate won't be DLC. They never said that DLC won't be for Ultimate.

And by 'easier to do' I believe he means 'will make us more money.' Don't get me wrong, keeping it only on disk is likely easier, but I think the real driving force is that they'll be forcing everyone who wants to get all the new items to pay. So yea, thanks for making me regret ever buying that MvC3 Capcom, it'll be the last time I ever buy a fighting game from you.

Personally, I don't see why this would be a giant deal breaker. The PSN Store has been offering the two downloadable characters for the original MvC3 for $5 each (which may actually be less than they're actually offering for them, but I'm too lazy to check, so say it's $5 for the sake of the argument). If you assume they would release these new characters at the same prices, and do the math.... let's see. 12 characters, $5 each. Yeah, you'd be paying $60. And that's not counting the new stages and game modes. Doing it this way, they're actually saving us money and download times.

And yeah, it kind of sucks that the people who waited to buy the game can now snag it at a lower price, when you factor in depreciating value of the original game and the amount of time we've been able to enjoy this great game... true, we're out a bit more money, but I think we got a bit of our money's worth.

Annnd...all together now: go fuck yourselves, Capcom. That's the last time I buy anything new from you. Don't think I've ever been quite this pissed over a game release.
Seconded. I had a bad feeling they would pull a stunt like this, and it makes me glad I stopped buying Capcom products a long time ago.

It'll probably work the same way as the original SF4 costumes, just re-download the unlock pack.

Well, Capcom. All I can say is...wow.

And one more thing, it hasn't been a year since Marvel vs Capcom 3 being released in stores and having them announce the "Ultimate" version is a kick in the balls for those that paid full price for the first one, especially extra for the DLC characters.

Hell, I paid 70 bucks for the special edition of the last game. I planned to buy every single damn character made available as DLC, but seeing this bull being pulled...

They can't have my money.

This is just plain INSULTING. Seriously, what the hell? This is, plain and simple, an insult. This is the company saying that we as consumers don't matter to them beyond our money

I don't find this all that surprising. This only further cements the hunch that some of the higher-ups at Capcom are just fucking insane.
Hunch? It's confirmed as far as I'm concerned.

Damn right. They don't want your money, so don't give them your money.

Capcom is well on their way to outpacing EA and Activision for sheer dickery toward their consumer base. Their behavior at Comic Con and almost all their recent PR releases about the Megaman Legands cancellation, among other things, really cements that.

I say screw'em. They've successfully killed the only titles they make I care about (Megaman and Devil May Cry... you know Ninja Theory is going to destroy DMC, well, they already have with emo-Dante) so thanks Capcom for saving me money to give to smaller developers who deserve it. Maybe I'll get Ar Tonelico 3 after all. I'm not a huge fan of the series but at least NIS and Gust are trying.

I wisely game the original a rent so I might look into getting this one... just kinda wish they would've made the "Ultimate" version first instead of releasing the first one then... People who bought the first one are stuck with a more expensive, inferior version.

My friend fell into that trap with Street fighter 4 so we both held off MvC3. I can't be too mad at getting a good game at 40$ though. Would be if I bought it already for 60$ though.

Who loves paying $60-70 to beta-test a demo for the real game that comes out later the same year?

Apparently Capcom thinks its fans do. I am not amused...

This is disgusting, especially considering MVC3 was severely featureless and should have shipped with additional characters and modes that UMVC3 may include. Everyone who bought the MVC3 essentially got a $60 beta.
