Have you ever encountered someone who has just complete missed the point of the game, series, or challenge? Button mashing in a fighting game(though random button-fu does work sometimes), playing a genre like a completely different genre entirely, or just missing the whole meaning of the story.

I have 2 examples that I can share atm.

1)Resident Evil was never about zombies. Now some people complain about the latest 2 RE games not having and zombies in it and it was taking it away from the original concept of the series....well, it wasn't. Like the japanese name of the series, Biohazard, the game has been and most likely always will be about biohazards/bio-logical weapons. Even in the original game, you had enemies like the Hunters, Tyrant, and giant $#%&ing snakes...those were not zombies, they were biological weapons made with the T virus. Even the T-"Zombies" weren't even zombie, but researchers that were mutated by the virus, and acted and looked zombie-like.

2)Why level up any other Pokemon? Maybe this might be something I do, but I have never found a reason to level up any other Pokemon besides my starter, especially with some of the moves they get later on, they can become powerhouses against their weakness types, and can usually steamroll the Elite Four. I've done this so far with every Pokemon game to date without fail...then just go back and put an EXP Share on the Pokemon I want to level up/evolve, and just do constant Elite Four runs....but maybe that just me.

Well, the 'companion cube' thread on this very page is full of people completely missing the point.

My bad XD.

But it was great to have the light shed on that joke, I never truly cared and was bored. So I made a thread.

On topic: Resident Evil was a survival horror series, I think the change from that is what pisses off more fans then not.

Don't get me wrong, it's not your fault that everyone missed the point, it's just surprising to see. It was actually a good topic for a thread.

No, YOU are the one who don't understand pokemon.

Anyway, meh I can't come up with anything, but basicall instead of "getting" pokemon, you instead want to grind elite four all day(which to me is pretty boring and isn't fun at all)

I found that many people who played Crysis and scoffed it off as nothing more than a tech demo where people who used stealth for about 90% of the game. That's just being lazy and completely wasting the potential of the nanosuit.

Yes it's easier to stealth through and predator your way through the game, but you completely miss the purpose of the suit as a tool/weapon. The open level design coupled with the versatility of the suit allows for a ton of tactical and fun approaches to enemies and objectives, using only one convenient power lessens the fun factor of the game and you only have your own laziness to blame.

I've played through the game at least a half dozen times and each playthrough has been dramatically different every time because I make differnet use of the tools I'm given. The game is as fun as you make it to be, it doesn't take the easy rout and just hand you the fun like so many games do (not that it's a bad thing).

It's not necessarily bad, per se, to play a game in a different fashion than is expected. To me (and to many Pokemon players), your method would prove a very dull way to play the game and indeed does seem to miss the point. It's not bad, though; I'd just hate playing like that (and probably you'd hate grinding 6 Pokemon and dancing around weaknesses and resistances while battling opponents 10 levels higher than you).

I think "tournament" SSBB misses the point considerably. Removing random items and shifting stages cuts the soul out of the game and actually unbalances characters. (Specifically, it makes fast, weak characters stronger [they can easier get items] and weaker [they can be skeet-shot into oblivion] in different fashions.) If you (now the proverbial "you") want to play a strategic, mindful, tactical fighter, there are games for that, but Smash Bros. isn't one of them.

Thank you very much, I did my best to make sure it wasn't a dumb thread!

Just about everything Valve puts out is very subtle in it's meaning, so nobody should feel bad about not getting it at first.

I know tons of people who button mash in fighting games...

I've also met people who believe that every game should be an action game, and that games that are slower should be taken off the market.

Those people make me very sad.

What I think the problem is with people " missing the point" is that some people are incapable of reading between the lines and take everything verbatim or exactly as they see

I dunno, I have fun with it =o Powerhouse my main so that it can take down anything in the game, then go out poke-hunting, and grind the elite four to evolve pokemon and fill up my pokedex, and leveling up my favs to use in the battle tower and vs real opponents.

I tried that and found it extremely boring. Clearly you can do that since nothing scales with you. The point of the game was to be a simple strategy (term used loosely) that catered to several types of players. It worked really really well. I think the developers lost sight of that goal after gold and silver but I digress. I found the game fun when I had the pokemon to handle anything, when I had to strategically choose my pokemon for the Elite Four(the grind was stupid but again, digression), and when I actually had that many pokemon to choose from. If it is fun for you go for it. I will play the game how I want.

People who hate Mass Effect simply because of the gameplay. Granted, it's not the greatest but it's not the point. Not in my opinion anyway.
