I have to ask this because I'm almost done with Uncharted 1 and am also curious about the second:

Is it the same but with a different story?

Or does it actually improve on the things that (I feel) are wrong with the first game? For instance: enemies as bullet sponges, little to no ammo at crucial times because of the aforementioned bullet-absorption of enemies, and a terrible cover system - Gears of War's cover system spits all over Uncharted's, IMHO.

Characters could be worse but the story is the only thing that's kept me playing all the way through (and I really hope I am almost finished it). The story is the best thing about the game.

So, to reiterate my initial query: Is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves exactly the same game as Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, only with a different story? Or does it have actual gameplay improvements?

I guess if your still trying to make a decision here then I'm going to chip in my two cents.

Uncharted 2 has gotten alot of 10/10 reviews, and it's got meta-critic score of 96. That places it alongside Bioshock, The Orange Box, Grand Theft Auto, and RE 4. That's just the information that's out there.

What you have to consider is what makes a perfect 10. In the Olympics, a perfect ten is the flawless execution of difficult maneuvers and stunts. I happen to think that Uncharted 2 succeeds at this. While nothing about the game play mechanic is new or groundbreaking, It's got platforming like Tomb raider or Prince of Persia, a cover based combat like Gears (but with the added bonus of combat occurring over several different height levels in a single area), Stealth combat like Splinter Cell with melee abilities also included. and a two weapon (pistol/Large weapon) + grenade load-out that's been stock to the genre since Halo. You've seen all of these tricks before.

The thing is you've never seen them done better. Naughty Dog really pulled out all the stops to bring a concise, smooth and very beautiful game to the table.

What makes Uncharted 2 different from all the other games that are out, or that are coming to market is it's adherence to it's story. The mo-cap and voice for all the scenes were recorded at the same time, which makes the characters incredibly life-like. All the cut-scenes use the game engine as the video medium, which makes the transition between cut-scene to gameplay unnoticed. The VA is great, the script is based of the actual historical mystery of Marco Polo's lost fleet with the macguffin (The Cintamani Stone), coming from Hindu and Buddist mythology. Oh, and it's gorgeous,... but you already said that wasn't a factor for you.

The downside is the length. There's only 26 levels. You'll finish the game and want to go back and replay your favorite set pieces.

The Multi-player is equally as well done. There's a stat-based leveling system cribbed from Modern Warfare, Co-op and Competative play with a bevy of game types, all with that "Treasure Hunting" twist to them.

I recommend the purchase. I usually don't buy games, but I gladly paid out my 60 for a game of this caliber. If you do, drop me a message, the names' Greed D Evans.

From all I've seen and read so far the game will probably be a fun rental and maybe even worth a purchase, but not at the current price.

I'm mostly a multiplayer kind of guy that considers single player to be the training mode for the multiplayer. Uncharted defied expectations and actually made me really enjoy a single player game. It's the first thing since Bioshock to do that to me.

Now my wife is playing it through and when I watch it I get to see it's awesomeness without worrying about staying alive or moving quickly. It's just a very good game.

Just wait for MW2.
First off, thanks for the awesome contribution to this thread. And I mean that sarcastically. I'm going to get MW2, but not for PS3, because my online games go to my 360. I like the 360's online better than PSN.
Sorry. Just dispensing the wisdom of buying MW2.
The other people say to buy it, though, so buy it. You can always trust strangers.

Also looking at the comments apparently the singleplayer isnt the longest, so just wait for a price drop or Christmas. Or just get Borderlands.
